PoliticsRe: Does Nigeria Really Need Another Satellite Now? by hotspice(f): 3:08pm On Dec 20, 2005
I think the satellite has been launched, so the above question is coming a little bit late.

Nontheless, I think we do need a satellite program but our 'Nigerianess' will affect the usage. During the Bellview plane crash, we were told that, that same satellite that gave information to America concerning Hurricane Kathrina (how true this is i do not know) was the same satellite that gave the first crash site to be somewhere close to the middle belt

Now you can see that when it is needed here it fails but it can 'amebo' else where! The idea was and is still a great one; it will create jobs and maybe in the long-run become useful (this is Nigeria things work backwards).

As for car manufacturing project, we have one in form of the Peugeot Co. where parts of their products like 406 e.t.c are imported to be coupled here! We done try now, and even if a car company establishes its factory here to supply West Africa, PHCN (formerly NEPA) will frustrate their efforts. Oh please note that PHCN has promised constant power supply come 2015 (hurray!)

By then we will have forgotten the promise they are making make today! And the supply will be ... lipsrsealed

@ babagana AND YEMSTRAD...pls leave my babyboy Seun kiss alone. nairaland puts food on our table! grin

On a more serious note, the Nigerian Police Force is a reflection
on how far corruption has eaten into the society.
lets face it, Nigeria is not the only country whose police force is
corrupt basically due to low salary infact that is the major reason
why the U.S.A police force is influenced by
the crime lords to an extent.

In nigeria our policemen/women are underpaid
with no health plans for their family and themselves
and the retirement benefit is a joke! and when
a low rack officer dies in the line of duty...

his family is paid =N=30,000( as at two years ago) {although TAFA tried to change that(the man be try for the force oh) }
so tell me why the same man should not take bribe?
their barracks is a den for deseases and a hid out for germs.

The Force is just corrupt like the rest of Nigeria.

Alamieyeseigha Impeached, Arrested
By Paul Ohia and John Iwori in Yenagoa, 12.09.2005

Bayelsa State governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha has been impeached. He has also been arrested by the police. 17 members of the state House of Assembly who sat in Yenogoa under tight security voted for his removal. It could be recalled that the Bow Street Magistrate Court, yesterday issued a warrant for the arrest of Governor Diepreye Alamieye-seigha of Bayelsa State for failing to appear before it at the resumption of his trial over alleged money laundering. With the issuance of the international warrant of arrest, the International Police (INTERPOL), can arrest Alamieyeseigha anywhere, except in Nigeria where he has immunity as provided in section 308 of the 1999 constitution. At the resumption of the trial yesterday, the prosecuting counsel from the Crown Prosecution Services, Mr. Mark Ludcraft, told the court that Alamieyeseigha must be presumed to have jumped bail since he had not reported to the Paddington Police Station since November 18. He, therefore, asked the court to issue a warrant for his arrest. Alamieyeseigha who was arrested in London on September 15 by the Metropolitan Police was, on October 11, admitted to bail on six conditions by a Southwark Crown Court. Among other conditions, he was asked to report daily to a police station, and barred from traveling outside London. But on November 18, the governor breached one of the bail terms by failing to report at the Paddington Police Station. Four days later, he returned to Nigeria in controversial circumstances, sparking off mixed reactions about the propriety of his action. The governor breach of bail terms and his dramatic return to the country had engendered series of events with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) submitting an indictment to the Bayelsa House of Assembly, which on November 22 served him an eight-point impeachment notice.

The Federal Government on November 28 increased the pressure on Alamieyeseigha by filing a 19-count charge at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, accusing the embattled governor of false declaration of assets, corrupt enrichment and abuse of office. Meanwhile, the seven-man impeachment panel investigating allegations of gross misconduct leveled against him yesterday began its proceedings at Yenagoa behind closed door. The panel, which was inaugurated on Monday by the state Chief Judge, Justice Emmanuel Igoniwari, met in the Conference Room of Creek Motel, Yenagoa, where armed security men disallowed members of the public, including newsmen from gaining access to the hotel¢??s premises. When THISDAY visited the hotel yesterday, a security operative manning its main entrance turned the correspondent back, saying he had no instruction to allow anyone except members and officials of the panel to attend its proceedings.  Efforts to reach some of the panelists also proved abortive, as their phone lines were not going through. Impeccable sources, however, said the freezing of the state accounts in commercial banks, as well as the non-release of its November allocation from the Federation Account was taking its toll on the panel, as the investigative body was said to be having logistic problems due to lack of funds.  In a related development, the Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government, Dr. Steve Azaiki, has been reportedly detained by security operatives. Azaiki, who is a bosom friend of Alamieyeseigha, recently dropped out of public glare. He was said to have been arrested by plain cloth security operatives early this week in Lagos while on his way to the United States of America (USA). An aide of the SSG who confirmed the arrest of his boss said Azaiki was sick and had been hospitalised at St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos. According to him, Azaiki has been taken away to a detention center in Ogun State.

Thank you oh Greatpeter. Please tell them.

As of today he has been impeached and arrested in the presence of his parents
What a shame, both to Nigeria and his people. Though his impeachment/arrest did not follow the due process.

TV/MoviesBig Brother Nigeria Coming up March 2006 by hotspice(op): 5:01pm On Dec 08, 2005
I vote against big brother Nigeria since they decided to include the bathroom scene which i consider immoral and unchristianly (IMO) cool

Secondly, Nigerians are the most 'pretentious' people in Africa(we ve BAYO to prove that) so of what use is the reality show if the contestants won't be real?

Will the show have any impact in our economy? Or its just to house 12 Nigerians for 3 months and the winner gets away with US$100,000.00

I heard the news with shock yesterday. for those who don't know what its about... how would u feel if u were rudely woken up at 4 a.m? We leave in a so called democracy but i tell you it is military democracy first of its kind in the world!!! Seriously the law states that the sit in tenant should ve the 1st option to buy from the land lord if the property is for sale this did not happen instead the ogas in power sold it to "them them". they were given notice to quit, fine, the matter was taken to court, court ruled that the eviction should not take place but against court orders (dem say court never sign the judgement which doesn't mean its not bindin on the parties) our millitary and mobile police invaded the premises. it would interest people to know that the military tenants in the property went about their daily activities and re still leaving there. angry

this just shows that the govt is by the people but not for the people and the govt is above its judicial system.

"we must start rooting out the bad eggs we elect to power one by one, and that will send a clear message to the future and present elective officer that there is no save heaven for criminals, one day you will be judged"

i agree with the above 100% but u see this is Nigeria where a thief is crowned and a saint is forgotten. if the above is to be done properly then ALL our leaders frm OBJ to the Counsellor WILL be rooted. but the damage has been done and i dont see how it will be corrected with the likes of chris mba and aneni still breathin oxygen. sellective or not am enjoyin the script BABA has given to EFCC to at out so enjoy bro.

The question is did he commit the crime or not? If yes then he should do the time.

We all know that they are all quilty and the efcc is selective but hey why don't we sit back

and enjoy the show with a box of pop-corn. no body should leave any body who knows who will remain
in 2007 and the type of anti-corruption that will be on, maybe it will be OBJ's turn then to sneak into the country and call it an act of God! since God spoke to him in 1999!!!

NIGERIA we hail thee.....
