Barça and Chinese Dalian Quanjian have reached an agreement for the transfer of the Nigerian leader Asisat Oshoala and FC Barcelona have joined a new contract until June 30, 2022, after the agreement for the transfer from July 1 between the Catalan club and his home, the Dalian Quanjian.

The Nigerian striker, aged 24, arrived at Barça on January 31 as a loan from the Chinese entity.

In these four months, Oshoala has played eleven official matches as Barça and has scored eight goals, among which the first of the team in a final of the Champions League, in Budapest.

The three times best African footballer of the year is currently concentrated with the Nigerian team before playing the World Cup in France, starting on June 7.

Feeling very high amounts of stress may increase older people's risk of developing the memory problems that often precede Alzheimer's disease, a new study shows.

Researchers found that older people in the study who were highly stressed were more than twice as likely to develop problems with their memory as those who had low levels of stress. The new results suggest that finding ways to lower stress levels in older people early on may help delay, or even prevent, the onset of Alzheimer's disease, the researchers said.

The researchers noted that the way people perceive potentially stressful events in their lives seems to play a role in their risk of developing memory problems. "It is not so much what happens to you, but how you perceive what happens to you," said study co-author Dr. Richard Lipton, vice chair of neurology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.

In the study, the researchers looked at the relationship between stress and a condition called amnestic mild cognitive impairment, in which a person's memory is impaired, among 507 adults age 70 and older from Bronx County, New York. At the start of the study, the researchers examined the people's perceived stress levels by using a scale that ranged from 0 to 56, with higher scores indicating higher stress levels. None of the participants had amnestic mild cognitive impairment or dementia at the start of the study, and the researchers followed the participants for 3.6 years, on average, evaluating their cognitive health every year.

The researchers found that, by the end of the study, 71 of the 507 people had developed amnestic mild cognitive impairment.

It also turned out that, the higher a person's stress level was at the study's start, the greater their risk was of developing the memory impairment over the study period. For every five additional points in a person's stress level score, their risk of developing the impairment increased by 30 percent, the researchers found.

The people in the study who had the highest levels of stress were nearly 2.5 times more likely to develop the memory condition than people with low levels of stress, according to the study, published today (Dec. 11) in the journal Alzheimer Disease & Associated Disorders.

Women were more likely than men to have the highest levels of stress. And people in the study with less education, or with higher levels of depression, also had higher stress levels, the researchers found.

The mechanism that might link stress and memory impairment is not clear. However, previous research in animals and emerging evidence in humans have shown that chronic stress is linked to the shrinking of a brain area called the hippocampus, which is involved in memory, and this might contribute to memory deficits, Lipton said.

However, stress is a risk factor that can be modified, the researchers said. Ways to reduce stress include exercising and engaging with other people for social support, Lipton told Live Science.

Another potential way to reduce stress is participating in a type of therapy called cognitive behavioral therapy, which can help people learn to plan better so they avoid potential sources of daily stress, such as scheduling too many meetings back to back.

This therapy may also help people to change the way they perceive potentially stressful events — for instance, by training them not to see these events as worse than they really are, he said.

Gambia’s president has declared the tiny West African country an Islamic republic to break from the nation’s colonial past.

It does not appear that President Yahya Jammeh’s announcement changes Gambia’s laws or the country’s constitutional status as a secular state.

Jammeh made the declaration on 11 December at a political rally in the coastal village Brufut, about 15 kilometers (9 miles) west of the capital, Banjul.

“In line with the country’s religious identity and values, I proclaim Gambia as an Islamic state,” the Gambian leader said. About 90 percent of Gambia’s 1.8 million people are Muslim.

“Gambia cannot afford to continue the colonial legacy,” Jammeh said. The country gained independence from Britain in 1965.

Jammeh’s declaration was not to ally the country with the jihadist organization known as Isis.

He said the rights of Gambia’s Christian community will be respected. “We will be an Islamic state that would respect the rights of all citizens and non-citizens.”

The head of the country’s Islamic body wouldn’t say if he endorsed the declaration.

“We haven’t met yet to discuss over the presidential announcement,” said Gambia’s Supreme Islamic Council Chairman Imam Momodou Lamin Touray.

Hamat Bah of the opposition National Reconciliation Party criticized the decision. “There is a constitutional clause that says that Gambia is a secular state,” he said. “You cannot make such a declaration without going through a referendum.”

Gambia, which was part of the British Empire until 1965, is a popular beach destination for British tourists although Jammeh’s government has been frequently criticized by Britain and other Western powers for human rights abuses.

Jammeh has ruled Gambia since seizing power in 1994.

Cote d'Ivoire and Manchester City star Yaya Toure has been voted the BBC African Footballer of the Year 2015.

This is the second time the Manchester City midfielder will be winning the award after receiving the plaque in 2013.

During the year under review, the midfielder won the 2015 African Cup of Nations with Cote d'Ivoire.

As captain of the team, he was a key member of the squad,m scoring in the semi-final as Cote d'Ivoire won their first major trophy since 1992.

He however failed to win a trophy with his Premier League club, Manchester City.

He joins an elite group of players-Kanu Nwankwo and Jay Jay Okocha- who have won the award twice.

He beat the likes of Algeria's Yacine Brahimi, Senegal international Sadio Mane, and Gabon star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to win the award.

"I am very proud. To receive this dedication from the fans is unbelievable," Toure told the organisers of the award, BBC Sport.

"Also I want to pay tribute to the other nominees. African football is growing up, becoming much better and we have fantastic young players coming through now."
