Some 10 fighter jets pummeled the ISIS-held
city of Raqqa in Syria with at least 20 bombs,
according to the French defence ministry. France retaliated to the Paris terror attack by launching deadly airstrikes on an Islamic State jihadi training camp in Syria tonight. Yesterday president Francois Hollande vowed to crush the extremist group who massacred 129 people on Friday night. Less than 24 hours later, some 10 fighter jets pummeled the ISIS-held city of Raqqa with at least 20 bombs, according to the French defence ministry. They struck an Islamic State command and control centre, a jihadi recruitment centre, a munitions depot and a training camp, France government sources claim. The full statement read: “The raid… including 10 fighter jets, was launched simultaneously from the United Arab Emirates and Jordan. Twenty bombs were dropped.” Syrian activists today claimed a museum, a stadium and a medical centre were hit by air strikes. They also said as of yet, there are no reports of any civilians being killed or injured. President Hollande was told his country is under attack while watching France take on Germany in a friendly at the Stade de France. His bodyguard is seen whispering into Francois Hollande’s ear 15 minutes into watching France take on Germany. Mr Hollande was immediately escorted upstairs to the stadium control room where he was briefed to the full extent of the situation before being scrambled away to a secure location. Yesterday, he condemned the Paris attacks as a ‘cowardly act of war carried out by ISIS barbarians’. Addressing the nation just hours after 129 people were killed, he said they had been organised and planned from abroad. Three days of national mourning will take place, President Hollande confirmed. In a televised address to the nation, Mr Hollande said the attacks were “committed by a terrorist army, the Islamic State group, a jihadist army, against France, against the values that we defend everywhere in the world, against what we are: a free country that means something to the whole planet”. He added that France “will be merciless toward the barbarians of Islamic State group”, and “will act by all means anywhere, inside or outside the country”. Mr Hollande said the French army and security forces were mobilised “at the highest possible level” and insisted France would “triumph over barbarity”. “What we are defending is our country, but more than that, it is our values,” he said. In a night of carnage in the French capital: :: Police stormed the Bataclan concert hall where hostages were being held, but attackers wearing suicide belts blew themselves up, leaving 80 people feared dead. A witness said one of the gunmen shouted “Allahu Akbar” and said “This is for Syria” – a possible reference to France’s participation in air strikes against Islamic State :: Two suicide attacks and a bombing took place at the Stade de France stadium, where Mr Hollande was among thousands of football fans watching the national side play a friendly against Germany :: Gunmen targeted bars and restaurants in the 10th and 11th arrondissements of central Paris :: As many as 18 people died when the terrace of La Belle Equipe was sprayed with gunfire, while around 14 people were killed at Le Carillon bar-cafe. There were also shootings at the nearby Cambodian restaurant Le Petit Cambodge and the La Casa Nostra pizzeria . Source: UK-Mirror

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) which measures inflation dropped marginally to 9.3 per cent in October compared to 9.4 per cent in the previous month, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). It attributed the slower pace of uptick in the headline index to lower increases in most of the divisions, which contribute to the index with the exception of transport, and recreation and culture. According to the CPI report for the month in review, food prices edged lower in October as the sub-index increased by 10.1 per cent during the month, relative to 10.2 per cent in September. The NBS said urban inflation and the rural component slowed on a year-on-year basis. The urban index increased by 9.4 per cent compared to 9.5 per cent in September, while the rural index increased by 9.2 per cent in October relative to 9.3 per cent in September. It stated: “On a month-on-month basis, the headline index slowed in October as the seasonal effects of the Muslim festive period dissipated. The index increased by 0.4 per cent 0.2 per cent points lower from 0.6 per cent in September, surpassing the lowest pace recorded this year which was recorded in September.” NBS further added that the “food sub-index was weighted upon as a result of a slower increase in the bread and cereals; milk, eggs and cheese; and potatoes, yams and other tuber groups, the latter which has increased at a slower pace for five consecutive months.” Also, the average monthly price paid by Nigerian households for a litre of petrol across the country further dropped to N93.48/litre in October compared to N95.18/litre in September, according to the NBS. Though the official pump price of petrol is N87, the figures provided by NBS showed that on the monthly average, Nigerians have continued to purchase petrol above the official rate in September. According to its monthly PMS watch for September which was released by NBS yesterday, Adamawa, Bauchi, Delta, Ekiti, Katsina and Ondo States recorded N87 per litre as average fuel price for the month in review. Bayelsa State recorded the highest average for the month at N111 while Abuja and Lagos recorded N108.20 and N89.94 respectively. PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari’s assignment of portfolios to the ministers, who resumed duties, yesterday, elicited mixed views in the polity. While some hailed the distribution of the ministries among the component parts of the country and expressed optimism that the team would drive the president’s change agenda, others thought otherwise. Indeed, the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, took a swipe at President Buhari, saying the portfolios given to some of the ministers did not in any way inspire confidence that the All Progressives Congress, APC-led government wants to pursue change. In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, the PDP, however, urged the ministers to urgently settle down for business and concentrate on the economy. According to PDP, the present administration has so far played heavily on what it termed, dramatizing routine procedures and processes, which was even glaring in the prolonged swearing-in ceremony of the ministers. Metuh said, “The much-expected assignment of portfolios to the ministers did not inspire confidence that there is indeed any change being introduced in the system. With the inauguration, the APC administration should fully resolve the issues on the actual position of the nation’s economy and the direction therein. “Whereas President Muhammadu Buhari had announced that the nation is bankrupt to the extent he cannot pay his ministers, his new Minister of Information had contradicted him directly by stating how the government is buoyant and ready to deploy $2.5 billion infrastructure fund, saved N1.4 trillion with another N2.5 trillion ready as special intervention fund, which goes to say that the country is not actually broke. “These new ministers should note the challenge before them regarding the image of the country which the APC government has changed from being the ‘Heart of Africa’ and a country of ‘Good people, Great nation’ to that of ‘Corrupt people, Broke nation’. “Furthermore, we counsel the ministers, especially those who will be the face of the government, to note that the campaigns are Over.
