Thanks, I'm already a member of Expat Forum and started my Australia journey there. I never cared to search for CDR there coz I wasn't expecting I'll need it coz I thought with my UK Msc, I can use Washington Accord. But thanks to Nairaland.com I'm now on the right track.

I'll be nominating Chemical Engineering.
Hi catchdwind,
Do i need to do the CDR if I am not claiming points for employment? Also do I need to assess both the UK MSc and naija BSc with engineers Australia? Merci

Hello house.
Got an invite this evening for the next stage on Thursday. Anyone with me? Thing is, it doesn't say if it's an interview or another test.

Nothing yet. Did they give a time frame within which we should expect feedback?

Calm down guys. Let's give her/them some time. It's only 4 days since the deadline. Sorting CVs is no joke depending on the number of applicants.

Hello,
I just know about this 476 visa , can u please do a break down of how u were able to be successful with the Application.
Steps after writing ielts.
Thanks ...
You need to have graduated from a Washington accord institution in the last 2 years and be less than 31 at the time application. You need PCC from countries you've lived in for more than 6 months and ielts too. With all these, you can apply. Medicals are also necessary too. Hope this helps.

Hi catchdwind
I'm also considering the 476 too. Written ielts and all but developed cold feet in completing the application. Please I wanna know when the graduate applications usually happen in Australia? Which city favours engineers the most?
Thanks.
catchdwind4rmkd:
Wow, nice thread. So much to learn here.

I already have 476 Visa, and used it during the last graduate recruitment period. I got opportunities to do 6 aptitude tests, and 3 interviews; all online because I applied from Nigeria. I agree with Malkinburg that it's hard to get a job with this visa subclass as some of the feedbacks I got from applications pointed towArds my visa or residency status. In fact, to be considerate, most of the jobs I applied to, clearly stated citizenship/PR as main criteria; I chose to apply anyway and got regret mails. There are few companies that were willing to sponsor me, 3 of which I had interviews with, but you'll agree that the competition will be very high for these coys willing to sponsor. I didn't get any offer on the last round of graduate recruitment.

However, considering the current situation of things in Nigeria, high cost of living and hardly any relevant (engineering) job opportunities; I'm now set to migrate to Aussie with my 476 visa. I'm determined to compete, but I haven't set exaggerated expectations as I know the limitations of the visa. So, my main goal is to obtain PR. As Malkinburg rightly said, one can hope to get unskilled job (which I must warn is also very hard to get these days as read on expatforums) and save for the PR applications. So, I'll start with the 18 months I have, and work towards making it permanent.

I never knew we have this many Nigerian migrants in Aussie or planning to, I would have planned my departure a bit earlier. My initial fright has been boredom or loneliness in a strange land. I hope to connect with more peeps on ground. Though, I can't seem to read anyone in melbourne or planning to. This thread was long overdue; all the searched I made returned the thread for Australian Student Visa. I'm glad to have connected with peeps here. Cheers

malkinburg:
the subclass 476 visa is no different to the 485 subclass in terms of job considerations. Honest truth is companies don't want to employ and train u only for u to start explaining that your visa will run out soon. For engineers, what I have seen is offer of fixed term contracts on that category. If your deemed indispensable your sponsored. In black and white all that postwork and 476 visa era where jobs waited for you yafuyafu ended in 2012. My advice is come anyway and try your luck. Worst case you still make money doing semi skilled roles which are easier to come by.
Hi malkinburg,
Please which cities in oz have better opportunities for an instrumentation and control engineer.
Thanks.

One has to be wondering, Keshi just left the national football team as a Chief Coach and was succeeded by Onigbinde. Few days after his death, Onigbinde followed. May God help us.
When they tell you to stop doing kpoli, you no go hear. Na you follow kill onigbinde?

When person with nlng recruitment experience talks, you just gats listen. Nice one kenosky. I remember you from the 2007 thread. But una own wait na child's play compared to this awa own.

Nice to see that folks are still posting and keeping the thread alive despite having to start the thread afresh after losing so many pages to the great 'Nairaland crash'. Some folks have hit the nail on the head, nobody or organization is worth putting your life on hold for. My honest tip to every person still expecting the call (& I said this with a sense of deja vu) is to continue as if you weren't waiting for any call (mind you this has got nothing to do with your faith). I salute everyone who has contributed to this thread and wish all those waiting the best of luck...

Hello house. I got an invitation to a job interview in the UK and I'm trying to arrange my visa application. I actually just returned in January after doing my Msc there. I'm presently job hunting but I have savings to the tune of about 1.5m. What are my chances and how do I package a strong visa application?
Also is there a means of getting a fast tracked application with the British embassy in Lagos?
Thanks.

Sometimes I wonder what the NLNG HR guys who monitor this thread will be thinking/feeling. Disappointment, joy at the quality of candidates, laughter, pity, shaking their head, or 'they can as well hug transformer'? Just thinking out loud.
