The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old phone snatcher, Adamu Sadi, in Rijiyar Lemo Quarters, Ungogo Local Government Area.
Police spokesman, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the incident to DAILY POST.
He said the suspect, who has been on the police wanted list, has been terrorising people at Rijiyar Lemo, Bachirawa and Kurna area.
Kiyawa explained that one Muhammad reported to police that on July 9, 2021, a criminal attacked him while on a tricycle to a market, injured him and snatched his phone, a Gionee M11.
He said after police received the report, the state Commissioner of Police ordered the Rijiyar Lemo Division to swing into action to arrest the criminal.
Kiyawa said on August 23, 2021, police succeeded in arresting the hoodlum after they had been trailing him for days.
Speaking to DAILY POST, the suspect revealed that he has been terrorising people in the area for over a year and had snatched no less than 15 phones. [color=#d7e0c9]Morning Prayers[/color]
Police spokesman said the case was transferred to the CID for further investigation.
He said the suspect will be charged to court after the investigation.
Phone-snatching has become a serious security issue affecting Kano metropolis and environs causing death and injury to many people.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja arraigned Princess Carol Ngozi alongside her company, Carolina Luxury Homes, on Wednesday
She was docked before Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Maitama, on a 30-count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence.
Ngizi allegedly, on various occasions, obtained the total sum of N31,825,000 from thirty of her clients.
She collected the monies under the pretext of allocating to them various plots land at Carolina Luxury Homes Estate, Gousa District, Abuja.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges when read.
Olumide Olujimi, their counsel, informed the court of a pending motion for bail filled on August 16.
Olujimi pleaded that Ngozi be admitted to bail on liberal terms.
Faruk Abdullahi, EFCC counsel, did not oppose the application. He urged the court to give conditions that will ensure that the defendants are available for trial.
Justice Muazu granted bail to Ngozi in the sum of N30million and a surety in like sum.
The surety must have a landed property within Abuja Municipal Area Council with original document submitted to the court.
Ngozi was ordered to deposit her International passport. The matter was adjourned until September 17.

Nnamdi Kanu: IPOB told sit-at-home order affects Igbos more than Buhari, stops investors
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has again been told the consequences of its sit-at-home order.
IPOB was told that the sit-at-home order affects the [color=#000000]economy[/color] of the Southeast and not that of President Muhammadu Buhari or the Federal Government.
The separatist group had initially initiated the sit-at-home order some years ago to enforce its push for the actualization of Biafra.
But, with the rearrest of IPOB’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu, the group had issued the order to push for his release.
IPOB had ordered people of the Southeast and those sympathetic to the Biafra course to sit at home every Monday.
After the first Monday sit-at-home which recorded massive compliance, the group adjusted the order.
IPOB’s Directorate of State said the sit-at-home would now be observed every time Kanu is expected to appear in court.
However, a former National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chuks Ibegbu warned of the dangers of complying with the directive.
Speaking with DAILY POST, Ibegbu urged IPOB to seek alternative means of agitation.
According to Ibegbu, the sit-at-home order was chasing potential investors away from the Southeast.
Ibegbu said: “It has a moral force but is detrimental to our economy. It will quell investments in Igboland, other means should be sought to achieve the same objective. It does not affect Buhari or the Federal Government.”
Kano State Police command says it has arrested a 26-year-old notorious armed robber, Mahmud Ibrahim terrorising the state and environs.
Spokesman of the command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, stated this in a statement issued to DAILY POST.
He said the suspect was arrested at Kurna Babban Layi Quarters, Dala Local Government Area[color=#000000].[/color]
He explained that police on Monday succeeded in arresting the suspect after they have received a distress call that an armed robber with a gun attacked a house located at Kuyan Ta’inna Town, Kumbotso LGA, Kano State.
According to the him, the team immediately swung into action and with the help of members of the community, arrested the suspect in possession of a pump action rifle.
He said the suspect sustained injuries while attempting to escape and was rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano, where he was treated and released to the police for investigation.
Kiyawa said the suspect confessed to have committed series of armed robberies alone for over two years in Kano and Niger States.
“The case was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for investigation. Suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigation,” the statement said.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, thanked the good people of Kano State for their continuous support and cooperation.
He urged residents to continue to pray and report incidences to the nearest Police Station and not to take laws into their hands.

A Kogi State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lokoja, on Thursday, sentenced a Marketing Officer of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Mr James Olayemi, to six months’ imprisonment for unlawful disconnection of electricity supply to a customer’s house.
Chief Magistrate Tanko Muhammed jailed Olayemi and ordered the immediate reconnection of electricity supply to Mr Dennis Osanwuta’s house.
Osanwuta, a retired top management employee of the National Inland Waterways Authority, had dragged Olayemi and the Regional Manager, AEDC, Lameed Obadaki, to court for the damage to his property and unlawful disconnection of electricity supply to his house even after the payment of N370,000 for February 2020.
The prosecution counsel, O. C. King, who was represented by Emeje Aruwa, said the case was brought pursuant to sections 86, 87, 88, 107 (a), (e), 108(1) (c), 111, 112 and 113 of the Kogi State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2017.
According to him, the defendants had on March 10, 2020, along with others still at large, “maliciously and unlawfully disconnected electricity supply to the electricity meter with account number 715718350 supplying electricity to the building being occupied by the complainant at No. 1 NIWA Quarters, Lokoja, Kogi State.”
Aruwa also submitted that the duo disconnected electricity supply to the premises of the plaintiff in spite of the fact that he did not default in the payment of his bills and described the act as unlawful
He urged the court to take cognizance of Regulation 10( of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Connection and Disconnection Procedures of Electricity Services, 2007.
However, Ocheja urged the court to determine whether the prosecution had established a prima facie case against the defendants to warrant it to compel them to enter their defence.
Ocheja urged the court to strike out the case over the inability of the prosecution to establish a prima facie case against the defendants by linking them to the alleged offences.
In his judgment, Tanko absolved Obadaki of any complicity on the two counts of criminal conspiracy and unlawful disconnection of power supply.
He, therefore, discharged and acquitted Obadaki, stressing that from the evidence before him, there was no link between the regional manager and the criminal activities of the marketing officer.
Tanko sentenced Olayemi for acting contrary to sections 5 and 11 of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission Connection and Disconnection Procedures for Electricity Services, 2007, an offence punishable under Section 94 of the Electric Power Sector Reform Act, 2005.
According to him, the provision of Section 5 states that electricity consumers must be given a maximum of 10 days for the payment of electricity bills and three months before disconnection can be made after the power firm must have formally written to inform the consumers of the impending disconnection.
“In view of the evidence before me, the complainant was not given such an opportunity; therefore, the first defendant is guilty as charged. I hereby sentence him to six months’ imprisonment with an option of N50,000 fine,” the chief magistrate added.

They were picked in the Sabo area of Kaduna, following intelligence on their alleged involvement in internet-related fraud.
EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, in a statement said preliminary investigation revealed the suspects engaged in impersonation and romance scam[color=#000000].[/color]
They allegedly faked the identities of United States military personnel on foreign missions to deceive their targets.
Ebhogie was said to have used his mother’s bank account to launder proceeds of crime.
The suspect, on July 30, 2021, purchased a Mercedes Benz GLK for N7million through the mum’s account.
Iwuji was discovered to have sold her photographs and Facebook account to internet fraudsters to trap victims.
The EFCC statement added that the suspects will soon be charged to court.
The Federal Government has admitted that it is not in the best position to manage the nation’s refineries.
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, stated this during his appearance on Thursday’s edition of Politics Today.
“I will agree with you that government is not the best manager of refineries and that is why this time, we are actually going to have professional managers to manage the refineries; we are not going to manage the refinery at all,” he said on the Channels Television programme[color=#000000].[/color]
Despite the submission, the minister believes it will not be out of place if the government gets the refineries working before taking appropriate decisions.
He explained that the government does not subscribe to the idea of selling off the refineries in their present condition as such action would be widely criticised by citizens.
Sylva stated, “We believe that we should get the refinery back to life before we decide on the option of whether we are going to privatise or sell all the refineries.
“If we try to sell the refineries which you call dead refineries, you will be the one first persons to say we are selling dead refineries to people.”
He said the Muhammadu Buhari administration cannot be blamed for the present state of the facilities as it inherited damaged refineries.
Despite this, he said the government has decided to prove to Nigerians that the refineries can be fixed and put back into working condition.
After the refineries have been fixed, the minister believes Nigerians can then decide what to do about them.
“We want to sell live refineries; refineries that are working and I think that is the fairest thing for the government to do and that is why we have decided to get all our refineries working.
“We want to prove to you that we can get these refineries working,” he said.
A Jigawa State High Court sitting in Gumel on Thursday sentenced a 40-year-old man Rabi’u Mamman to death by hanging for killing his wife.
Presiding Judge, Justice Abubakar Sambo Muhammad said the convict was sentenced to death by hanging after founding him guilty of the offence.
Mamman of Medinlaban village in Gagarawa local Government had in 2016 followed his wife identified as Lamira into the bush, beat her with stick to death over a misunderstanding.
Justice Abubakar said the prosecution counsel proved the case beyond reasonable doubt and found the accused guilty of the offence which is contrary to section 221(B) of the penal code[color=#000000].[/color]
Delivering his judgment, Justice Abubakar said the accused was found guilty of the offence which is punishable with death.
“Five witnesses presented before the court proved beyond reasonable doubt that Rabi’u Mamman had committed the offence” he said.
Justice Abubakar, therefore, sentenced him to death by hanging to served as deterrent to others of like mind.
