An alleged fraudster, Ismaila Mustapha a.k.a. Mompha, has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to apologize over an alleged libellous publication.

Mompha made the demand in a letter signed by his lawyer, Gboyega Oyewole.

The Instagram celebrity warned the EFCC that failure to comply within 14 days will cause him to take legal action [color=#d7e0c9].[/color]

Oyewole said the anti-graft agency’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren made a libellous and defamatory statement about Mompha.

The legal practitioner insists his client is not a criminal or fraudster as painted in the publication and had nothing to do with convicted Hamza Koudeih (HK).

Last week, Justice Tijjani Garba Ringim of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, convicted and sentenced Koudeih, a Lebanese, to one-year imprisonment.

Koudeih and Kayode Phillips were arraigned by the EFCC on November 28, 2019, before Justice Muslim Hassan on a 25-count bordering on conspiracy and money laundering.

Uwujaren described the duo and Mompha as high-valued targets in Organised Cyber Syndicate Network who engaged in various cyber crimes.

In one of the counts, EFCC said Phillips (a.k.a Voice of the King) and Koudeih (a.k.a. HK), in May 2019, converted the aggregate sum of $7,069,000; £1 million and €80,000, part of proceeds of fraud.

Their offence was contrary to Sections 18 (a), 15 (2)(d) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act, 2015 and punishable under section 15(3) of the same Act.

Uwujaren disclosed that Koudeih approached the prosecution for a plea bargain and that EFCC, through its counsel Rotimi Oyedepo, filed the agreement with an amended charge on September 8, 2021.

Delivering judgment, Justice Ringim sent Koudeih to prison but gave him an option N1 milllion fine.

He ordered forfeiture of HK’s N100 million in a bank account owned by CHK Property Investment Ltd; Mercedes Benz GLE43; two iPhones and an HP Desktop computer to the Federal Government.

In his letter, Oyewole told the EFCC that nowhere in any of the charges against Koudeih was Mompha mentioned nor found to be an accomplice.

The lawyer informed the commission that Mompha has never been convicted of any crime in Nigeria even though he faces charges on offences bordering on operating a Bureau de Change (BDC) without a licence.

“It is embarrassing that an organisation of EFCC’s level would hastily defame a suspect, who to their knowledge is being prosecuted by the organisation and has not been convicted of any crime known to law in Nigeria.

“We wish to request that the organisation through its image maker Wilson Uwajaren retract the blanket statement against our client forthwith and with the same publicity as was given to his previous press release on the matter.

“If you fail to heed the request of our client within 14 days of the receipt of this letter, we shall be constrained to proceed to the court of law against your organisation for exemplary damages for injurious falsehood”, the letter added.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, OYC, on Thursday berated Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State for linking Ndigbo to President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the State today.

Uzodinma had disclosed that Buhari would, apart from commissioning projects he completed in the State, meet with Igbo leaders and discuss issues affecting the zone.

But in a reaction, the President-General of OYC, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, said Uzodinma’s claims were big slight on Ndigbo.

He said it was insulting that a private visit to Uzodinma’s Imo Government could gradually turn into a visit to Igboland by Buhari.

The enraged youth group said, “we had wanted to hold our peace over the noise about President Buhari’s visit to Imo State but under the prevailing circumstances, we are compelled to set the record straight.

“We want to start by making it clear that President Muhammadu Buhari is not visiting Igboland today, but is rather coming to see Governor Hope Uzodinma on a private visit that has nothing to do with the good people of the Southeast.

“Having said that, it is also imperative to state that Ndigbo are not scheduled to meet with Buhari in Imo State to discuss any issue whatsoever. The reason is simple- at no point did Igbo leaders meet where a decision was taken for such a visit, let alone agreeing on issues to present to Buhari.

“Secondly, Uzodinma, who is number one enemy of Ndigbo, a man that has bluntly refused to protect our people, but is holding tenaciously to open grazing of cattle, is not and will never be a rallying point for Ndigbo. [color=#d7e0c9]Church Prayers[/color]

“Having said this, he is on his own and is not in any way representing the interest of Ndigbo, but is merely receiving Buhari as his private guest, which he is entitled to.

“Any Igbo leader going there is not representing the interest of Ndigbo and we will regard such a person as an enemy of the people.

“What we will not tolerate is the habit of dragging Ndigbo into such a Jamboree. Ndigbo are not ass lickers, we are one of the three major tripods under which this country is standing and for that reason, we are not going to go cap in hand begging anyone for what is our due, including the 2023 presidency which is not negotiable.”

The youth group equally said it was not happy that the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, were popularizing Buhari’s visit by proclaiming sit-at-home in the entire Igboland.

“What is the essence of even contemplating a sit-at-home in the entire Igboland because Buhari is visiting Hope Uzodinma in Imo State? They have helped Gov. Uzodinma in giving the visit such a colouration that it is for the entire Igboland.

“If at all they must declare a sit-at-home, it should have been in Imo State because Buhari is not visiting Igboland. They should not make this kind of very costly mistake next time, it has given this visit undue popularity,” Okwu added.

Big Brother Naija Season 6 housemate, Saskay has revealed what she will do to win the N90 million grand prize.

Saskay, during her diary session with Biggie on Tuesday, said she is ready to do anything just to win the money.

She noted that she has never been a people pleaser but for the money, she’s willing to go against her ethics.

A Lagos airport staff, Emmanuel Eluu has returned $20,000, phone, jewelry and other valuables forgotten by a traveler.

He found a black bag carried by a prominent Nigerian – whose name was concealed – around 3:10pm of 30th August.

A statement by BASL Corporate Affairs Manager, Mikail Mumuni revealed other items found apart from the foreign currency.

The spokesman said the owner’s number on the card was called by the security supervisor on the instruction of the AVSEC Manager.

From his destination (Port Harcourt), the top citizen, who had boarded an Arik Air flight, instructed his protocol aide in Lagos to collect the belongings.

“The owner of the bag initiated a video conversation with Adelakun, affirming the identity of the protocol officer and thanked the management and staff of MMA2 for the honesty and professionalism,” Mumuni added.

President Muhammadu Buhari has admitted he is anxious to see Andy Uba emerge as the next governor of Anambra State.

Uba emerged as the flagbearer for the All Progressive Congress (APC) ahead of the November 6 polls.

While receiving him at the State House, Abuja, on Tuesday, Buhari said he will monitor the election closely.

“I am happy to formally welcome you. I certainly wish you the best of luck.

“I’m anxious for your success, and will closely follow,” Buhari said.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Uba said: “I was surprised at the endorsement of Mr President and what he said to me today came from his heart.

“You know everybody was shocked at what he said.”

He also spoke about the tension between him and two of his brothers, Chris and Ugochukwu, who will also be contesting.

“I will tell you for sure that we are not divided. At the end, everybody will see that we are not divided.

Mr Peter Aboki, the Deputy Provost, College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia, Nasarawa State, has dragged a former Commissioner for Agriculture and Water Resources, Mr Alanana Otaki, to an Upper Area Court, Lafia, for snatching his wife.

Mr Shikama Shyeltu, Counsel to Mr Aboki, while addressing the court on Monday prayed that the case brought by the wife be suspended pending the determination on the matter of her alleged extra marital relationship with the former commissioner.

On his part, Mr David Meshi, Counsel to the defendant, said his client was no longer interested in the 18-year-old marriage to the applicant, which was why she decided to seek divorce.

Mr Joseph Agbo, Counsel to the ex-commissioner, argued that his client did not have hands in the marriage crisis between Mr and Mrs Peter Aboki.

However, Mr Abubakar Lanze, the presiding judge, after listening to the parties involved adjourned the case to September 15 for hearing.

EFCC Arrests Man for Allegedly Obtaining N38m from Internet Fraud Suspects

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal Command, have arrested one Ladeji Kelvin Babatunde for allegedly obtaining over N38,000,000.00( Thirty-eight Million Naira) from suspected internet fraudsters in order to prevent their arrest by the Commission.

The defendant allegedly impersonated officers of the Commission and obtained the sum of money by false pretence from the suspected cybercriminals.

Upon his arrest, a four-bedroom uncompleted apartment located at Ikola Road, Alagbado, Lagos, which was developed with the proceeds of the perpetrated fraud, was recovered from him.

The Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District of Niger State, Alhaji Sani Musa has hinged his desire to vie for the Chairmanship seat of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on the need to bring new vision and direction into the party.

Declaring his intention in Minna, Musa explained that he has already gotten the support of the state, especially from Governor, Alh. Abubakar Sani Bello who is the APC leader in the state. [color=#d7e0c9]Daily Prayers[/color]

“I have the backing of relevant stakeholders in the state. I also have support of majority of the members of the National Assembly, especially the Senators and many APC Governors. With their support I will emerge the next National Chairman of the APC,” he said.

The Senator further explained the condition for being the Chairman is not only limited to being a former governor, but being a person with immense capability and political sagacity to manage complexity of a big party like the APC.

Presently, many former Governors, who are now senators are believed to be eying the Chairmanship of the party.

They include former governor Tanko Almakura, Senator Danjuma Goje, Abdullahi Adamu, Ali Modu Sheriff and Abdulazeez Yari.
