Many Nigerians do phds because it is an easy way to immigrate to US and do so with full funding. Most other people do phds because they have a passion for it, money is completely secondary. For the average American, you earn more working with a masters degree than you will earn doing a phd. Most postdocs also pay a paltry amount of money so most people you find doing a phd are people who are passionate about what they do.

You mean even for those that work in the industry with PhD?

Who called anyone a thief here? Why not direct people back to the thread instead of billing them when you know you can’t freely help. Why do we see every opportunity as a means to extort people instead of helping. This thread was created to freely guide people to do the right thing and not to source for client. If you want people to pay for your service you can get a shop or kiosk close to the embassy and start charging per hour since you don’t play with your time. People here freely helped us, why can’t we just do this same?

Did he/she beg anyone to PM him or her. Ask your questions on this thread and leave their PM alone, anything that happens there is your business. You can't ask someone to give you names of schools when Google is there for you and nairaland is there. If you want him/her to do the work for you and he/she demands a fee, pay it if you want. It's their choice to do it for free. As far as they are contributing freely on this thread and helping in answering questions, it's good for the thread.

I have the screenshot evidence from my source now. However, I will not mention his name for now as directed by my source.

Mentioning their names doesn't make them a thief. Those paying chose to pay. I don't know why we are taking it so serious. Though i am not in support of billing people. But if they have billed anyone, you went as far as going to their PM, if not, the person should have asked the question here. Some people don't play with their time and if you want that time, pay for it. Else ask your questions here.

How many hours are you expected to work for each of the research assistantship positions? You can only work a total of 20hrs per week. So you might not be able to combine both positions.

Is it possible to hold two assistanship position in same school?

Lol
I know right..

It is safer to have this mindset.
Safer for us and our child unborn.

Imagine that 90% of Nigerians go to the embassy with either funding or IVY?

Sometimes, one has to wait and give quality time to get what is required.

We show too much desperation. That's the difference between us and the Indians.

60% of Indians go to embassy with loan or family funds and are approved. Nigeria own is different cos we started using fake statement of account and improvising fraudulent means.

Finally, I am done with the admission/funding hustle. Got a fully funded PhD Chemistry offer from University of Kentucky and Michigan Tech University with good stipends. I am thinking of taking University of Kentucky offer over Michigan Technological University offer. What do you guys think?

Accept University of Kentucky offer.

First off, welcome here.

1. Many schools offer funding but you need to research that yourself. Google the exact string you have in question 1 and you'd be shocked with the number of schools that offer such.

2. Many schools waive GRE for MSC but for a PhD and to get a relatively higher chance of funding, the general cliche is to write the GRE and bag a high score. There's a thread for GRE on the education section.

3. TOEFL is preferred but, many schools waive it for Nigeria now.

4. Yes, you can stay behind, depending on you.

Schools that waive GRE are not many especially for engineering programs

Hi guys, my undergraduate course is chemistry and I graduated with CGPA of 2.46, I want to apply to Southern Illinois university Edwardsville and Illinois state university for masters in chemistry. Please what is my chance here? I need advice because I know my CGPA is poor. You guys response will be valuable to me.
Thanks

2.46 is third class. Mehn I won't advice you to waste application fee in those schools cos they won't admit you with that grade and they don't require GRE for that chemistry, GRE would have supplemented. Don't waste your money

Vo: Good morning

Me: Good morning

Vo: pass your passport and i20

Vo: which course do you want to study?

Me: Computer information system

Vo: why this course?

Me: My passion for ICT started when I was in the university to the extent I had to apply as an apprentice to a cyber cafe in school where I learnt alot on ICT, I learnt computer networking, network servers, computer processes, Excel, Microsoft word and also Nigerian company's and organisations are moving their business processes from manual to automated and for me to be relevant and valuable in this field I need to acquire technical skills so that I can develop business modules and business softwares that will revolutionize Nigerian business world. I hope to work with organisations like Andela in order to encourage upcoming business softwares developers and a means to give back to the society.

Vo: how did you know about the school?

Me: I once participated in an online Android forum at XDA developers, my senior advisor saw was impressed with my zeal and my contributions and asked me my plans in the future and I told him I want to go for master's in computer information systems then he recommended California miramar University to me, I made research about the school curriculum and the school environments and I saw the school has a flexible curriculum with approach in both practical and theoretical aspect of the course I want to study, and I also found out on Wikipedia that California miramar University is one if the top 10 universities in business education field. California Miramar university is located in California, the state with silicon value (world technology hub) I hope to look for my self an expert in silicon value that will mentor me in business software development and information security systems.

VO: who is sponsoring you?

Me: my mum, she is a health care professional and owns an IT consultancy firm and logistics company with office in London and Lagos Nigeria.

Vo: have you traveled out of the country before?

I had given my GRE recently and GREedge helped me a lot to achieve the 318 I secured. I am super happy with the score and would like to recommend GREedge to the GRE test takers out there. I had taken Express GRE+TOEFLhttps://www.greedge.com/program/express-gre-with-toefl. It was a good deal around 17K.
TOEFL i scored 114. Both scores were pretty decent and the worth all money spent.

You just want to advertise the site.

Why are people advising him to cancel his appointment. This is bad. He can always try and been denied a visa is not the end of his Journey. He can always reapply. Since he has book an appointment then let him go for it. What works for A might not work for B. Please lets be careful with the kind of advice you give to someone. Yes he can apply to another school if he is been denied. But let him try his Luck first. I am certain he is going to get it. Lets not discourage anyone

My opinion though. You dont have to accept it. Thanks.

It's called an advice cos he asked for one. He can cancel his appointment and use the visa fee for a better school. It's good to learn from other people's experience than going there to experience one.

Honestly this is harsh, I need words of encouragement and not words of discouragement at this time that my interview is near, I don't know how some people think at times. Anyway thanks to everyone that advised and encouraged me.

Check this thread, almost all visa refusal are from those that went with California Miramar university. Please cancel your appointment and aim for summer or fall 2019. I can help you with better schools to apply to. I guess you didn't write GRE, that's why u applied there.

Thank you all for your reply, i thought as much that my chances will be slim, but at the same time i will spend first term school fees for nothing, if i apply for Msc computer and now change to nursing, hmmm, am actually doing masters computer science in Germany, but am not liking it, am not just feeling the course again, lol

Sorry for USA schools, you don't have to attend the school for a term before switching to another school. You can transfer to another school immediately you arrive USA and use that money for your intended program.

Wait, you are telling me that the embassy will deny this individual a visa for having a BSc in a major that is coveted by nursing programs, due to Electonic Health Record (EHR) being the norm in Healthcare facilities across the globe? OK. You are probably right.

Which one is major that you are referring to, Bsc Computer Science? Your write up is quite confusing.

If you were not ignorant, or maybe do some research, you will know that one would need to obtain an RN degree first before proceeding to informatics.

So what are you saying. You are even giving him wrong advise. You suggested nursing informatics and now saying you need nursing degree first before nursing informatics. See we are not here to quarrel, moving from bsc computer science to bsc nursing won't be easy to get visa with. He can switch when he get over there but he should try msc computer science or related course in order to secure his visa easily.

Disregard those that say you have a relatively lower chance of getting a visa due to your degree in computer science. There is a sub-specialty called nursing informatics, which your degree in computer science will come in handy if you decide to focus on that.

Mr Adviser. Is he going for masters in nursing informatics or another bsc. Shey you don't know having a bsc and going for another bsc reduces your chances of getting a visa?
