In all likelihood she probably didn't pay any money for it from her own pocket. Knowing Nigeria and IBB, I am 100% sure it was simply ALLOCATED to her.

With respect to the Capex that you talk about, Chevron took all the risk to invest. The structure is Chevron invests and if they strike oil, chevron uses oil to repay themselves of the equity she ought to have provided upfront. Only when it is fully paid back in oil will she now begin to reap rewards. So the initial risk is 100% to chevron and 0% to her. It is a risk chevron would have been willing to take because of their huge size.

There is another block I know off owned by another shadow Nigerian company. They have aJV with a multinational oil company who has not yet decided whether to develop that block. Do you know that the IOC pays that company millions of dollars every year just to remain as partner even though no work is going on?

Another Nigerian billionaire oil and gas person adding no value.
God bless you and yours bro. You can see where i just pointed this out to him in layman terms using his icon's faith based story. See, we all love a success story and she has told her own. All i am saying is that this story more comical than it is inspiring. I actually chuckled when i read the story.

I am glad you have an idea of where I am coming from.

But let me clear this, no government gave anybody any Oil Block as a gift!

Do you know why they are regarded as a gift? Because of the cost of acquiring those blocks as compared to the huge revenues later recovered from them. This thing you guy think are gifts were worth hundreds of millions in Dollars.

Prio to the discovery of huge fields like Agbami, Bonga and Erha, the deep offshore were no go areas. No business man would want to invest his money where they knew there were several limitations ranging from lack of available detailed Geological data to Lack of technical expertise and experience among others.

The government had to give out those offshore blocks to potential investors at a cheaper price compared to those onshore as an incentive to attract them towards it and then which in turn will boost our Oil reserves. Which is a win-win scenario.

Let's even say (as you guys think) she was given the block for free. Do you know the amount of Capital investment (CAPEX) that will go into such a block before you will get to the stage of Drilling the first well? What if after spending so much and then drill wells and the wells are dry? And you say she has nothing to lose? Do you know how much it costs to even drill wells offshore?

Please if we don't know about certain issues let's ask questions before making comments

Folorunsho Alakija's story cannot be beneficial to every entrepreneur. It is for only those that understand the nitty gritty of the Oil business.

I would like to sit with her and share from her success story on that Oil Block.
Given the fact that you are knowledgeable about the Nigerian oil industry, you should be aware that such ventures require a financial arm, a technical arm and a Nigerian face, so the people entitled to tell this faith story should be her financial partners(most likely foreign investors). Not to take anything away from her, but she was just a product of Nigeria oil policy. See she is a entrepreneur there is no doubt about that, but i still maintain that this her faith based story is uninspiring for entrepreneurs. Heck, you would have even told a better a story of her entrepreneurial sagacity than her PR handler. At least i have heard stories of her being a fighter and that would have been more inspiring and useful to entrepreneurs.

She didn't say she accepted any Well. She accepted a block!

Wells are drilled after several Exploration activities, and several field development plans have been carried out.

It is a very tedious process that involves expertise, time and very importantly money.

Even that Kayode is just talking like an illiterate. Cos from his statement he doesn't know the difference between a Well and a block.

I believe the Woman's story. It takes Faith to accept a Green block when you are not sure whether you'll strike oil or not.

But what she didn't tell us the source of funding the project.
See,i understand where you are coming from. But the point here, is not about whether she received an oil block or oil well. The point here, is that there is nothing challenging about her story to upcoming entrepreneurs. I don't think one needs faith to receive a gift of which you have nothing to lose. I don't even think she had much of a choice about the condition of the gift she received. If she had told her story without trying to be vague, thereby leaving loopholes in it, i doubt we would be having all this hullabaloo about her story. I think she should chose a better storyline next time. It would have made more sense if her story was about how to network our way to powers that be in the Nigerian government than this faith based story.

I will just re-calculate the profits in the long run & ignore the current lost. I want to be serious in 2018 & stop tolerating that shut.

LOL bro i was in love many times.from High School up to my adult life. it was good. the deepest most solid relationship was with the mother of my daughter who i found a virgin at 24 (or was it 23? i forget )it ended badly.and there were a lot of tears. amazingly it wasnt becoz of cheating. but after crying for the 100th time i realized that ever since i became a grown up the only people that kept making my tears flow were women.. and i wiped my last ever tears over a woman.then i put an icebox where my heart was. and to this day i dont regret it.
i have never made an effort to accomodate a chick since my baby mama.
but my current state of mind is the result of many things that happened to me in one period.and put me off romantic love and stopped me from ever trusting a woman ever again.
having been born in Zim i moved to South Africa without anything i learnt first hand how when u are at zero its only men who will reach out to you.i learnt the true meaning of Bros Over Hoes.and to this day i love my bros more than the hoes.i will drop any gal who tries to come between me and them.
trust in women evaporated when my brother died in prison after a false rape accusation by a woman who confessed she made up the story only after hearing my brother had died.
what finally killed my love for women was my intro into The Red Pill. and particularly an article i stumbled on the internet called The Secret Sex Society (google it).initially i thought it was about the Illuminati, only to discover a manual of being a manwhore.
i dont recommend love.but if u gona fall in love make sure u either get a virgin or a gal with the most minimal body count.you will save yourself many headaches.
never let any woman pull your strings by calling you "insecure".
sorry if its too much story.
Oga, you have seen things in this life oooo. Chaii.

Literature / Re: Letter To The Introverts, From Sassynigerian by Hungarriman: 2:12pm On Nov 20, 2017
Ashley86400:
I'm an introvert and I'm comfortable with who I am.
Everything listed here defines my temperament and even more.
I'll stand for introverts like me and say the following :
- Introverts (or the melancholics) are usually alone in their heads than being out and loud. Sometimes it's not even a preference, it's just the way we are wired. It's not that we can't speak out more and mingle but we do it with a much lesser frequency than extroverts. We tend to think 90% and speak 10%. Someone asked me to define a very good day in my world. I told him it would include me being at home alone reading a very good novel/magazine ,watching sports, documentaries or playing video games.
It's not like introverts are completely "anti-social", we do go out on events and hang out with friends but it is usually at a lesser frequency than extroverts. Its just too mentally exhausting to keep going out in public for one thing or another. And when we do go out, it is usually because we "have" to, not because we particularly want to -perhaps it's in form of our jobs or it's just a compulsory event to attend.
Throughout my 4 years in Unilag, I only went clubbing thrice, and each time, it was to attend a friend's birthday. My friends on the other hand went clubbling at least twice a week.Weekends were usually booked for them. It just shows how different our temperaments were. My friends usually said depending on my mood I'm either the most quiet/boring person you ever met or the most funny/craziest. However, only my friends thought this way because of the familiarity we had as they tended to watch me switch between my on/off moments regularly. Other course mates, who just knew me but were not close to me thought I was just snub or weird. This even made them nominate me as "the weirdest girl" in the class, which thankfully, I didn't win. Basically, I didn't care what they thought, but I wasn't looking forward to placing a wooden award celebrating my "weirdness" on my mantle especially when I know I'm not weird.

If the world was a big party, extroverts would be the usual life of the party, moving from one table to another and having the time of their lives. Introverts on the other hand would be the ones who sit on the same table in a party, probably in a corner, away from the lights while watching the extroverts do their thing- most people mistaken this as introverts being shy, but the truth is we're just bored.
We introverts cherish our privacy a lot. Because going out in public completely takes us out of our comfort zone.

- If you see us raising our hands up last in class, it's basically because we don't want to jump into conclusions / or we find too much drama in expressive competition. Sometimes, we avoid raising up our hands for fear that we might be wrong. Introverts find it harder dealing with failure, embarrassment and rejection more than extroverts, who easily bounce back up. There's just no point. Sometimes my teacher/lecturer would have to personally point at me to get an answer.

- Music is primary for me, I've thrown tantrums at having my ear-piece stolen or spoilt than other personal stuff of mine. Music blocks out the activities of the world for every minute you listen to them. Being an introvert (melancholy) means we get lots of mood swings that we can't control. Basically we have an invisible on/off switch. Sometimes we're in the mood to talk a little or talk a lot, sometimes we don't want to talk at all. People might see it as a diss or being snobbish, but it's not. Our switches might just be off at that moment. Most times we don't even know why our moods change, sometimes our moods change because of things that happen to/around us, but most times there's no reason. They just do.
In a crowded place, I usually plug my ears to escape the noise or sometimes to avoid meeting new people or to discourage people from talking to me. I can't keep telling everyone I'm not in the mood for a chat, so I usually hope most people can get the situation and avoid me, still some of them (especially) extroverts will put out my ear-piece and shout something into my ear, lol.

-Unless, something very important is happening, I hardly make or receive calls or text. Emails keep flowing in- I can't control that. But it doesn't mean I'm not active on the internet. I would even say introverts are more cyber-junkies than extroverts. We surf and search for relative things to keep our interests up - latest games, forums (for me Reddit, Nairaland, Quota etc) ,I'm a female who loves sports (especially football) so I'm always looking up stuff from fixtures, to matches, to pundits reviews and back again. .I communicate with my phone than with actual people.

Its important to note that introverts are dreamers - we dream and imagine a lot more than the average person. This means we stay in our heads a lot. Dreaming brings about creativity.Creativity brings invention. The most creative minds in the world, wether for good or bad were introverts and they all noted that they had their moments of revelation (creativity) when they were alone - Newton, Gates, Jobs, Zukerberg, Ghandi, Einstein, Galileo,Picasso, DaVinci were all introverts, even Hitler was described as a child/teenager as being shy and introverted. Most of the most versatile actors and artistes are actually introverts. Johnny Depp, Daniel Radcliffe, Christian Bale, Emma Stone ,Al Pacino, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj,T.I . .being introverts helps them to easily glide in and out of a character or behaviour that is the complete opposite of who they are.

There are a lot more notable things about introverts but I'll stop here.
But if you meet introverts, don't think they're snubs or proud, talk to them ,strike up a conversation and get to know them, you might even be surprised they talk a lot when being broached about particular topics.
Will you marry me?
Romance / Re: British Woman Caught Her Baby Daddy Resting In Bed With Her Mother After Sex by Hungarriman: 7:20pm On Nov 14, 2017
timidapsin:
video was too long. Halfway through it, I got hungry so I left it playing and went to the kitchen to fix my self a toast bread. But then I found out that I'm out of mayonnaise so I went to a store.

There, I saw the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my whole life. But I'm really a shy person so I took up a three-year personality development course so I can introduce my self. She was very friendly and all, but unfortunately, she has a boyfriend. So I said, all good, I'm a mature person.

I want the best for her and I harbor no illusion that I am the best person for her and she seems happy with her boyfriend, so I did not bother her anymore. But we kept in touch and we became friends and I got over my crush on her. Then she broke up with her boyfriend, we drank some alcohol because of it, I told her she'll be fine and I wished her well.

I still think she's the most beautiful woman in the world, but like I said, I am over my crush on her. It was like five years already when I first saw her. Besides, I am quiet happy with the friendship I developed with her. It was more important than a crush. So we kept hanging out, drinking, having coffee, and all. I had a girlfriend, she started dating other guys. My girlfriend wants to live some other life without me in it, so I said, okay, I want the best for you and I want you to pursue your happiness.

My lady friend and I drank alcohol about it, and she gave me the same advice I gave her when she was in that position and I became okay with the breakup immediately. But we were really drunk, so she spent the night in my apartment. I only have one bed, so you know what that means: She took the bed and I slept on the couch. But on the couch, I really can't sleep.

Something was bothering me. So I tossed and turned for about three hours, then I finally can't take it anymore, I stood up and went straight to my room where she's sleeping. I approached the bed, gently sat on it and I reached for her shoulder to pull her closer to me. She stirred and woke up. She asked what's up.

I told her, you know, the first time I saw you, I was watching a video and left it playing to get my self a sandwich then went to the store to get some mayo then I got distracted by life that I forgot to finish the video. She said, you know what, I've been wondering about a weird noise in your night drawer.

So we opened that drawer, and lo and behold, there's my phone and this video still has 30 seconds of play time on it.

Religion / Re: There Are Atheists Who Acknowledge the Existence of the Creator of the Universe by Hungarriman: 4:22pm On Oct 30, 2017
Intelligent discussion, followed.

I don't think there is sufficient knowledge or understanding of whatever the "first cause" is to state that:
-It is a being
-It is supreme
-It sustains everything in our universe
-and that it can even create different realities.

This for me means that by your definition of a god, you yourself cannot possibly know enough to call the first cause a god.

"I asked if it was the rejection of the deification of an entity or the denial in the existence of an entity because its a deity"

Also to your original question, I reject the deification of any entity as I do not believe in the existence of an entity that can be termed a deity. A deity defined as a god or a supreme being or creator.

Your question I think already implies the existence of an entity that is a deity or that can be called a deity, however if you don't believe in the existence of such an entity (that is a deity) then you cannot be in denial of it's existence and you are automatically against the deification of any entity because you don't believe such an entity, an entity that warrants deification, exists.

To help explain my point. Let's say I don't believe in ghosts and someone covers you in white robes and says-"look, this is a ghost!". I say no it's not, and then they ask "do you reject labelling anything a ghost or are you just denying the existence of this white robed thing because it is a ghost".

Because I do not believe in the existence of ghosts I obviously reject labelling anything a ghost. Also because I don't believe in ghosts I deny the assertion that you in white robes is a ghost, not that you do not exist because you obviously do, but I disagree with the idea that you in white robes is a ghost whose existence I am denying rather than an entity in white robes whose existence I acknowledging but whose status as a ghost I am denying because I do not believe in ghosts.

So thinking about this again-the core of the issue, which johnydon already figured out, is: What can you call a deity or a god, without a definition anything can be called a god. I don't think the burden of proof is on the atheist to define what a god is as we didn't claim the god exists, that would be the theists. Now taking the definition of atheism as the lack of belief in the existence of gods. Without a clear definition of what a god is then atheism is automatically restricted to rejecting the deification of any entity (albeit ignorantly as the lack of a definition of a god makes it difficult to logically reject the deification of anything). But at the same time this presents an issue for you as a Christian theist because everything and anything is and can be a god and yet nothing is because there is no clear idea of what a god is. However if the qualities and properties of a god are clearly defined then atheism can move on to the second issue "the denial in the existence of an entity because its a deity" once the idea of a deity is clearly defined, the atheist can than argue that the entity you have described lacks the qualities and properties of an entity that can be termed a deity.
Nna, men dey here ooo.

johnydon22:

Very good question but then one look at the problem raised one can deduce it is just a argument of definition, a pinch of a precise definition is enough to put everything at rest for such an argument.

I can even explain such argument with same analogy that can be used to explain the true scotsman fallacy.

Pay attention: Every man from Scotland is a scotsman

the statement above is the definition of a scotsman, once you are from scotland you are a scotsman by definition.

I may come along and say a true scotsman is any man that can close one eye and leave the other open for a minute. this redefinition automaticlly changes what a scotsman is to my audience if they employ my later definition.

By employing my definition any man in the world, even a man from Nigeria can be a scotsman as long as he can close one eye for a minute.

So what exactly is a scotsman?

That is the argument of definition that you have just raised. I can call anything God by my definition, so if an atheist says there is no God does he also say my Shoe that i call a God does not exist or is not a God?

Well my shoe can be God but also cannot be God.

It depends on your employment of a certain definition, A man from Nigeria can be a scotsman by a certain definition and will not by another definition.

So the question is: What is God?

what makes something God?
is there an essence that makes someone or something God?
are there characters that you must exhibit then you become a God?

What is God?

Once we establish this definition i think we can then use it as a sieve to answer the question, if we on this thread are going to have a precise definition of God we are going to work with then we can comfortably define what we believe or what we dont, we can devise a category of how we place the validity of what God is or not on this thread based on our coined definition.

I have once asked on a thread on creation and God: Is God God because it created the universe or is it God whether or not it created the universe?

another way of asking, is God still god even if it didnt create the universe?

what makes God, God?
