Hi |
My friend shared this amazing story with me, & I want you to reflect upon it specially in these days where many have lost their lives unexpectedly. Riyadh is not only the capital of Saudi Arabia but a city of more than ten million residents, one of them passed away & left behind him a great wealth but no one to inherit. A judge in Riyadh’s court was asked to look at this interesting inheritance case. The judge searched for any relatives for the wealthy businessman & he could not find any contact, & finally after almost a year they were able to identify three distant cousins who lived in another city. Sure enough the court contacted the three cousins & ordered them to attend the court without informing them the reason behind the request. They arrive at the judge’s office & it was obvious that they were simple country men. They were wondering why they were summoned there but the judge quickly assured them that there was no reason for worry. Did they know so & so (the deceased wealthy businessman)? They said he was a distant relative, they knew nothing about him, & the last time they saw him was when they were young decades ago, & since their own father passed away, they never heard about him. Judge asked them if he has any children or if he was ever in a marriage that is not registered in the country or abroad or anything like that? They said we do not know, ask him? The judge said he is dead, you do not know? They said “no, may Allah have mercy on him. What we know is that he lived by himself & never married, nor did he have any family members other than our father.” This answer comforted the judge & confirmed his conclusion that they are the only inheritors. Finally, the judge took 3 envelopes out from his drawer & handed it to them while saying that the man’s inheritance was in the court’s bank account for almost a year now looking for the inheritors & you are the ones! They looked at each other wondering what these envelopes can deliver? Each one of them got 15 million Riyals, almost 4 million dollars! They were in state of shock, One of them fainted, the other one was crying & the third one was speechless & frizzed for a while when the judge confirmed the amount & stated that it is their money now, & they should be grateful & thankful to Allah & to pray for the man who worked hard to make this money. After a few minutes they calmed down & the judge asked if they would agree to put together funds to build a masjid on behalf of their relative since he did not leave behind him children or wrote a well for Sadaqah (giving charity) , the judge suggested a project he knows of & it will cost them fractions of what he gave them. The first one quickly replied, good idea but I have so many kids & debts. I will see what I can do later. The second person said while he is looking down at the ground “ your honor I would love too, but I have big family as well & my kids are about to get married , Allah knows I needed money these days so badly but I will make sure I will give sadaqah on his behalf when I go back & remember him in my prayer. As for the third one he said something the judge said “It was like a wakeup call for me” The third person said: “Your honor if he did not care to benefit himself why would I care! My family deserve this more than anyone else.” The judge said long after they left: “ …if he did not care to benefit himself..”, After this he made sure to write in his will that part of his wealth go to charity of his choice. Many of my friends are judges & they share many of their stories but this one is quite different than any other story I heard. It shows the nature of men & the stunning truth about reality. I ➡️ My Reflections on this Story: 1️⃣ “ *If he did not care to benefit himself* ” It is important to think about what will happen to you after you die & your deeds are stopped. And if there are children or relatives who will remember you after your death, please understand they will remember you for a month or a year for sure but not the next generation. Always ask yourself “ *How can I ensure good deeds to continue after my death?* ” A few hundred dollars can make a well for a community who needs water. With a small amount every month you can sponsor an orphan, or invest money in supporting a school, or building a masjid. I need to put this as a part of my retirement plan & in my will as well so my reward can continue after my death. 2️⃣ Our lives can change from the outside in no time, but the important point here is, are we going to change from the inside. It is a pity if your income grew & you didn't. I wonder if these three men were financially well off, would they respond differently?! My guess is no. Giving is never about how much you have but is based on how much you care. That is why I advise you to get in the habit of giving now when you are young and do not have much income, *because if you think you will when you get rich or when you get older, you are wishful* and most likely it will not happen because if you live upon something most likely you will die upon it as well. *And among them are those who made a covenant with Allah, [saying], "If He should give us from His bounty, we will surely spend in charity, and we will surely be among the righteous." But when he gave them from His bounty, they were stingy with it and turned away while they refused.* {Surah At Tawbah 9: Verses 75-76} *3️⃣Write your will, you do not know when your time will come,* and how fast things can change. If you have debts, bank accounts information, charity to give , Islamic obligations such as Fasting or Fidyyah (penalty to be payed), Hajj to be done on your behalf, someone you need to ask for their forgiveness, an advice for your family to reflect upon after you die, or who should handle your funeral make sure all of these are there. The Muslim scholars agreed it is highly recommended to have your will written due to the hadeeth related by Ibn Omar (radiallaahu anhu) who said the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) said: *“It is not permissible for any Muslim person who has anything to bequeath, that he should spend even two nights without having already written his Last Will*.” [Al-Bukhari & Muslim] 4️⃣ I appreciate the fact the judge suggested for them to create a waqf (endowment) for the deceased , & if they did, it would have been a waqf for them as well. I know of another judge who suggested to someone to leave a Sadaqh Jariyah (continued charity ) & he did, & soon after he died & left behind an endowment that supported hundreds of students of knowledge & sponsored tens of poor families, all it took was a suggestion. 5️⃣ So I say to every one reading my story leave something behind you that will continue generating reward for you after death. On the authority of Abu Hurairah (radiallaahu anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) said, *‘When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah a continuous charity), or knowledge from which benefit is gained, or a righteous child who prays for him ’.* [Muslim] And it was narrated by Abu Hurairah (Radiallahu Anhu) who said, ‘the Prophet (Sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) said, “Indeed, the rewards of his actions aan good deeds that will reach a believer after his death are: knowledge which he taught and spread; a righteous child whom he leaves behind; a copy of the Qur’an that he leaves as a legacy; or a masjid that he built; or a house that he built for wayfarers; a canal that he dug; or charity that he gave from his wealth in his good health and life. [These deeds] will reach him after his death”’. [Ibn Majah] 6️⃣ The concept of Sadaqah Jariyah is an amazing idea, it shows the love for goodness & the interest of spreading good in society even long after the person’s death. Sadaqah Jariyah means a continuous, flowing & ongoing charity. It is one of the most rewarding acts we can do in our lives as the benefits of giving this type of charity can be reaped in this lifetime & long after we have passed. ** _________________________ For more articles go to www.islaaminfo.org No Copyright. A man was hired to paint a boat. With his paint, brushes, and a steady hand, he began coating the boat in a vibrant red, as the owner had requested. As he worked, he noticed a small hole in the hull, barely noticeable to the untrained eye. Without saying a word, he repaired it, considering it part of his job. Once he finished painting, the owner paid him, and the man left, content with his day's work. The next morning, however, the owner returned, with an amount far more generous than what was owed for the painting. Surprised, the painter asked, "Sir, you've already paid me for the paint job. What is this for?" The owner smiled and said, "This isn’t for the painting. It’s for fixing the hole in the boat." The painter, puzzled, replied, "But that was such a small thing, certainly not worth this amount." "My friend, you don’t understand," the owner began. "When I asked you to paint the boat, I even forgot about the hole myself. After you finished and the paint dried, my children took the boat out on a fishing trip without telling me. I was away, and when I got home, I was horrified to realize they had gone out in a boat with a hole in the hull." The painter listened intently as the man continued, his voice now thick with emotion. "I was terrified, thinking they might never return. But when they came back safely, I rushed to check the boat and found that you had repaired the hole. You didn’t just fix a boat—you saved my children’s lives. That’s something I can never fully repay." The painter stood silent, absorbing the weight of the man’s words. The owner added softly, "Sometimes, the smallest gestures can have the greatest impact. What seemed insignificant to you meant the world to me." In life, we may unknowingly fix many “holes” for others—offering help, mending hearts, or simply being there when needed. We often don't realize how much those small actions can mean to someone else. You never know when your quiet kindness might save a life. Keep helping, keep caring, for the world needs more boat painters The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Do not consider any good deed as insignificant, even if it is just meeting your brother with a cheerful face." Salāh is an amazing gift from Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla to this Ummah. In fact, the Sahāba loved Salāh so much that once, in a battle against Juhainah, the enemies of Allāh noticed the Muslims praying Zuhr. They thus planned to attack the Muslims when they would be praying Asr, saying " *Certainly, a Salāh will come to them [Asr prayer] that it is more beloved to them than their own children."* [Muslim] Allāhu Akbar! The Sahāba loved Salāh so much to the point they preferred worshipping Allāh through that which He loves most - the Salāh - even to their own families! Let us look at simply one aspect of how Salāh is a gift for this Ummah: *1⃣ The Prayer Itself is an Expiation of Sins* The Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said, “ *The five daily prayers and Jumu'ah to Jumu'ah is an expiation of the sins committed between those times so long as one is not guilty of major sins.”* [Bukhari] *2⃣ Wuḍū Washes Away Sins* The Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam said, “ *When the Muslim or the mu'min (believer) makes wuḍū', when he washes his face, every sin that his eyes has committed (whatever ḥarām we may have looked at, if we didn't lower our gaze when we were supposed to, if we spied on someone we shouldn't have) wash away with the water or with the last drop of water. When he washes his hands, every sin his hand has committed is washed away. When he washes his feet, every sin that his feet walked towards is washed away with the last drop of water until he comes out of making wuḍū' free of sin.”* [Muslim] *3⃣ Walking to the Masjid Forgives Sins* The Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam said, “ *Whoever makes wuḍū' at home and then walks to the House of Allāh to perform one of the five prayers, every step he takes wipes away a sin and the next step raises his status with Allāh.”* [Muslim] *4⃣ As You Wait for Prayer in the Masjid, Angels Pray for Your Forgiveness* The Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam said, " *The angels keep on asking Allāh's forgiveness for anyone of you, as long as he is at his Musalla (praying place) and he does not pass wind. They say, 'O Allah! Forgive him, O Allah! be Merciful to him."* [Bukhari] *5⃣ Saying Aameen (Properly) Erases All of One's Previous Sins* The Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam said, “ *When the imām says āmīn (after Sūrat'l-Fātiḥah), say 'āmīn' because if you say 'āmīn' at the same time the angels say 'āmīn,' then all of your sins you have committed are wiped away.”* [Bukhari, Muslim] *6⃣ Every time you make Ruku’ or Sujud, Your Sins Fall Away* The Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam said, “ *When the worshipper stands up in prayer, all his sins are brought and placed upon his head and shoulders, so whenever he bows and prostrates, they fall from him."* [Bahyaqi, Tabaraani, authenticated by Al-AlBaanee] *7⃣ Every Sajda You Make Forgives Sins* The Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam said, “ *Make a lot of sajdah (i.e. make a lot of prayer) because for every time you make a prostration to Allāh, your rank is raised and your sin is forgiven.* ” [Muslim] *8⃣ Angels Pray for Your Forgiveness After Prayer* When you are done with prayer, angels pray for your forgiveness and mercy, just like they do before prayer, so long as you stay in the same position of the prayer and don't lose wuḍū'. The Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam said, “ *The angels will pray for you as long as you are in the same position that you just prayed in and don't break your wuḍū'. The angels say, 'O Allāh forgive him. O Allāh have mercy on him.'”* [Bukhari] *9⃣ We Ask Allah for Forgiveness After Prayer Three Times* After prayer, the Sunnah of the Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) is to say, “Astaghfirullāh” three times. We ask Allāh for forgiveness with a heart humbled before Allah and hopeful that He will pardon our shortcomings and transgressions. *🔟 The Adhkaar After Salah Erases Sins* The Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam said, " *He who recites after every prayer: Subhan-Allah (Allah is free from imperfection) thirty-three times; Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah) thirty-three times; Allahu Akbar (Allah is Greatest) thirty-three times; and completes the hundred with: there is no true god except Allah. He is One & He has no partner with Him. His is the sovereignty & His is the praise, & He is Omnipotent, will have all his sins pardoned even if they may be as large as the foam on the surface of the sea."* [Muslim] How long does it take? Two or three minutes? But people don't do it... and they miss out on incredible reward. *1⃣1⃣ Adkhār Wipes Away Sins in an Incredible Way* The Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam said, ' *There are two qualities which no Muslim person attains but he will enter Paradise, and they are easy, but those who do them are few.' The Messenger of Allah (Salalaahu Alaihi Wasalaam) said: 'The five daily prayers: After each prayer one of you glorifies Allah 10 times (say Subhan Allah) and praises Him 10 times (say Alhamdulillah) and magnifies him 10 times (say Allahu Akbar), which makes 150 on the tongue and 1,500 in the balance.' And I saw the Messenger of Allah (Salalaahu Alaihi Wasalaam) counting them on his hands. 'And when one of you retires to his bed he says the tasbih (Subhan Allah) 33 times and the tahmid (Alhamdulillah) 33 times and the takbir (Allahu Akbar) 34 times, that is 100 on the tongue and 1,000 in the balance.' The Messenger of Allah (Salalaahu Alaihi Wasalaam) said: "So which of you does two thousand five hundred bad deeds in a day and a night?" It was said: "O Messenger of Allah (Salalaahu Alaihi Wasalaam), how can a person not persist in doing that?" He said: "The Shaitan comes to one of you when he is praying and says: 'Remember such and such, remember such and such," or he comes to him when he is in bed and makes him fall asleep."* [Hasan, Nasa’i] Why did the Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam say that on the scales, the reward is multiplied by 10? Because, Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla, the Abundantly Merciful, says " *Whoever brings a good deed shall have ten times the like thereof to his credit, and whoever brings an evil deed shall have only the recompense of the like thereof, and they will not be wronged.* "[Al-An'aam, 6:160] So in Islam, every good deed is credited with 10 rewards, and every bad deed is only credited with 1 bad deed. But why did the Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam say towards the end of the hadith, "So which of you does two thousand five hundred bad deeds in a day and a night?" Because, Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla says, "... *Verily, the good deeds remove the evil deeds (i.e. small sins). That is a reminder (an advice) for the mindful (those who accept advice)"* [Hud, 11:114] So He, ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam is saying that even if you do 2,500 bad deeds in a day, if you just pray the five prayers and make this adkhār after each prayer and before you sleep say this, then even if you do 2,500 bad deeds, this adkhār wipes it out and now you are free of sin and Jannah is yours. Brothers and sisters, Salah is an incredible gift from Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla for this Ummah. May He make us all performers of salaah ....Ameen _______________________________________________ For more articles go to www.islaaminfo.org No Copyright. Please feel free to share with others.
