you guys have commented well on this pgc/pgd versus masters thing.

I'll just say that there must be a sense of purpose in whatever one is doing.

You must also be able to convincingly prove to the VO's that you will return to ur home country if you cannot legally remain in canada after your studies irrespective of whatever program you apply for.

End of discussion....
brandymcmb:
That's the main point, most graduates on here have a graduated with a 2.2 and hence most Canadian schools don't accept that for Masters that's why they go for PGD and that's no one's fault. Even those with a 2.1 are been denied admission into Masters programmes
The other point is if 96% of those with a 2.2 got a Masters admission they wouldn't even think of a PGD so let's stop this arguments
You are both on point. cool

Thanks. I am going to do my pgd program but I will discuss with the school to accelerate it. You can submit your Brock uni letter at Poe if u want to change.
Sorry, I wasn't clear with my comment,I meant that was what I did two years ago when I got to Canada.
I don't know if you got my PM request.

@ PGD vs Masters, there is no need for such argument if you are in Nigeria. Come into Canada to see things for yourself before making subjective argument about the seniority of one over the other. One thing we Nigerians are good at is trying to undermine others by saying one thing is better than the other. The simple truth about the Canadian system is that some courses are better instructed in a college while some are not because of the practicality involved; like vocational courses. We have to be very analytical in our argument to make it objective rather than subjective.
Anyways, nobody give a **** about your degree if you are exceptional at doing what you do. *Nigerians and inferiority complex are like bread and Iya Koffi's beans*. grin grin Chai i miss that beans.....Mizbaby reply to my PM or better still, answer my question here.

Cheers kiss

Hi guys I got refused a study visa for a certificate programme and reasons were:
I did not convince the visa officer that I'll return after my programme based on these
- Purpose of visit
-Travel history
- Family ties in Canada and in Nigeria

Actually my uncle in Canada paid my school fees and I provided his financials during application.

Well I've never travelled abroad before so I really wonder why that's an issue

Purpose of visit is supposed to be to study as I have evidence of admission letter and fees paid

Can someone give an idea of where I got the application wrong?
Thanks
It would be advisable to list all the documents you submitted, Gurus in the house can help from there.
Sometimes it isn't about the application you sent forth, it's about the timing of application.
In 2013, I was denied visa into Canada, I used exactly the same docs the second time and got it, the only obvious change on the application was my admission letter from a different school .
Don't give up bro, just retry.
Cheers.

Nice write up, when I saw this post I was attracted to it because a lot of my peeps in Nigeria call me to enquire about some kinda scholarships to Canada which usually are scams by some greedy peeps. After reading your post, it is obvious you are here with facts and not the scam some people pass around that even we studying here don't know of. Honestly, you have done well to share this information with others.
God bless you.

Hello everyone, from the cic website i have noticed they are new rules regarding change of schools or courses as at june 2014

please can any one give insight as to changing schools or course of study after ariving canada from the one that was the basis of TRV/STUDY PERMIT.
i am aware the first step is getting admission to the school you want to change to and notifying the cic....
MY QUESTION is, in a case when u want to transfer from a PGD prog to an Undergraduate Diploma, are there any peculiarities or problems associated with that and does it fall under the category of change of level as stated below(copied from the cic website), which requires applying for a new study permit.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study-changes.asp

If you applied for a study permit to attend a post-secondary institution after June 1, 2014, you must notify Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) via your MyCIC account every time you change institutions. You are not required to apply for a new study permit when changing institutions that are at the same level of study (e.g., from a college to a university).

For example, you must notify CIC if you submit a letter of acceptance from the University of Ottawa when you apply for your study permit but then transfer to Carleton University once you arrive in Canada.

You are not required to notify CIC when you change institution if:

you applied for a study permit prior to June 1, 2014;
you were issued a study permit to attend an institution at the primary or secondary level; or
you obtained a study permit as the family member of a study or work permit holder (i.e., you were not required to submit a letter of acceptance when applying for a study permit)
.
I COPIED THIS FROM THE CIC SITE.
thanks
This shouldn't be a big deal; I think they just want to be aware of any changes made for easy identification. I changed from Centennial college to Brock university in May 2014 and my current Study permit has Centennial on it, whenever I have to present my study permit they keep asking why I changed school. So if the policy was in place before I changed school, I won't have to be explaining myself every time. If you want to change school, inform the school first so that they could at least direct you on what to do because a school like Brock don't interfere with CIC related matters but they would direct you. All the best.

Bro; can someone who can be fully sponsored for a year hussle to sponsor himself tru the second year from your experience over there.
It is possible, only if you have break in-between your studies to work; like summer break. But working and studying at the same time, I doubt it.
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 7 by Huzzie: 5:13pm On May 24, 2015
Hi everyone, good to be back with my e-family...good work guys. See you all in Canada, we need people to absorb the cold abeg. Na spring we talk say we dey oooo, but person still gat check weather report everyday grin grin grin. Just an additional advise to the house for those who are not aware, It is advisable to pick a 2year dip/PGD for PGWP(Post-Graduate Work Permit) purpose.I have met so many Nigerians who did 2 unrelated programs because they did a 1year course and needed to do another one to make them eligible for the 3years PGWP. I want to assume we all know that to get a PR you need at least 1year work experience depending on the province of studies to qualify for the CEC(Canadian Experience Class). And for those coming for a masters program, duration of studies shouldn't be a major concern because getting a PR could be achieved through the PNP(Provincial Nominee Program). With this program you don't need work experience, you just need a certain amount to be in your bank account (about 11k or so).
Why am I saying this?
I have met people who came to Canada before me and didn't know jack about these things I just spill here. Some even argue about the authenticity of what I told them , but as a professional arguer grin grin I just gave them the links to allow them wallow in their ignorance.
When you come into the Country, what you should do?
Make findings about things before doing it, not necessary through the internet only. Ask people in a professional way without flaunting ignorance grin. Always follow the international office at your school for the latest; for example I got the information about PNP and US visa through the international center seminars, before then my Ghanaian friends told me I could only get the US visa if I lied I was going for a conference in the US. I applied and the got my US visa by telling them I wanted to go for shopping(N.B- my school is 30minutes drive to Buffalo, it may not always be the case for those whose school isn't close to the border).

I wish you all the best, but before I abscond again @oga siga, Justwise, Fhemmy et al....my respect.

She said she would help me travel to the States but she would keep me indoors in her house for 6 months pending when my papers allowing me to move around the US would be ready.

I'm already receiving 75,000 naira per month here in Nigeria and still single.

Please is there any advise from the house?
I know you must have heard some ot the things I want to highlight.
As much as the purpose of your question is to get advise, but sincerely the decision is yours to make; weigh your options and consider the short and long term effect of your decision. I am in Canada studying, I can tell you the grass is not as green as I thought, IMO, I don't regret my decision and I am fine with it.
So make a decision and stick with it.

Do you already have admission with another school? If you do, present the admission letter to your current school that you want to transfer.
Well, that was what I did with mine, you might need to check your school website for procedure.
FamilyRe: How Do U Handle Abused In A Marriage As A Husband? by Huzzie: 7:47pm On Dec 13, 2014
Sincerely, you handled it the right way.
Women generally like to be victims in whatever situation they find themselves to get sympathy from observers; this is actually inherent in them. My advise is always know when to avoid the cause of the confrontation; I am also struggling with this, though, my wife has never confronted me neither have I but I keep falling into her trap, hence, making her the victim.
Just keep praying for patience and calmness to handle such situation, "a strong man is one who knows when to walk out of an argument and apologize when wrong"-Huzzie

Good morning house,
Something I find really creepy just happened. Apparently, the embassy does 'thorough' checking.
I got an email notification from LinkedIn saying that I had profile views. They usually send me that and I just ignore. I'm sure they send everyone that anyway. But this time, thanks to boredom, I checked it and guess what? Someone from CCG viewed my profile.
What this means is probably that, alongside your application, they might be interested what you do on Social Media. Maybe to get a deeper insight on who you are or to verify some information. I don't know.
Be careful what you do on Social Media.
Lol that's just what I was going to share. (Scared they might even find this one here too sad ) lol
My people can too fear like.....haaaha, make una forget wetin V.O dey do oooo. You have made the right choice choosing Canada(that's your own part), why not just leave the other part to God. Anyways, that's how I see life sha.....I won't mention names, but some of my guys wey we dey canada together, if una see their facebook page omo fear go grip una.
My brothers and sisters abeg pray for God's favour; the intent of the poster wasn't to scare anyone but just to inform the house.
See you all in Canny soon.....this cold too much for only me, make una come so we go fit gather enjoy am grin

Hello everyone, I have a question for the house as regards supervision...thesis based program.............when a potential supervisor encourages you to apply and get back to him immediately you have done so, does it automatically translates to the fact that she has agreed to supervise you?

Reason why I am asking is because I don't want to waste my hard earned money. Thanks
It doesn't guaranty anything; I got the same reply from a potential supervisor at UNBC last year and I didn't get the admission. Funny enough, this was the same reply my friend got from the same supervisor 2 years ago when we he applied and he was admitted....So I would advise you to apply anyways and place your trust in God.
