ENUGU – Federal Government yesterday, commissioned the 240km Enugu-Abakakiliki-Ogoja-Ikom-Mfum Trans-Africa Highwaywhich cost N31 billion. Performing the commissioning at Kilometre 6, Enugu-Abakiliki expressway, President Goodluck Jonathan, who was represented by the Minister of Work, Mr. Mike Onolememen, revealed that the road project was consistent with the efforts of his transformation agenda towards free flow of persons and goods in the country. His words: “This all important project that links Nigeria to Cameroon starting from Enugu-Abakiliki-Ojoja-Ikom-Mfum is part of the Trans-Africa Highway project. ‘’As part of the confidence building mechanism between Nigeria and Cameroon, after the Bakassi Peninsula saga, the World Bank and Africa Development Bank collaborated with the Government of Nigeria, Cameroon to ensure that part of the Trans-Africa Highway between Nigeria and Cameroon was rehabilitated. “The road had been in a very bad shape, so we got a soft IDA facility for its funding from the banks I mentioned. The road was executed at a total cost of N31 billion. It was flag-off in 2012. “Social infrastructures were built as part of the main road work contract. Under this arrangement, 36 boreholes/hand pumps,3 agricultural produce drying platforms, four Cassava processing mills, one rice processing mill,5 palm oil processing mills were built for communities along the main road corridors. “Other are eight new classroom blocks and renovation of existing primary schools, two town halls, eight access road and culverts linking communities and one dispensary. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/fg-commissions-n31bn-enugu-abakaliki-ogoja-ikom-mfum-road/ |

Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has awarded N1.2 billion worth of contract to Carpenters and Furniture Association of Ekiti State.
The association on Monday evening signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the state government on the contract.
The Chief of Staff, Chief Dipo Anisulowo, who represented the governor, said the contract was part of the Stomach Infrastructure Programme of Fayose.
“This is an empowerment project. We are awarding the furniture aspect of the Millennium Development Goals project to these local furniture makers. The project covers about six Local Government Areas in Ekiti State, so they will make the chairs and the tables for all the schools in the six LGAs.
“The whole project would cost the government about N1.2 billion. This gesture by the governor is the first of its kind in Ekiti State. The governor did this to make good his promise to empower local contractors and artisans in the state,” he said.
Anisulowo appealed to the artisans to make good use of the opportunity.
He said, “I hope you would not disappoint the governor because he has reposed a lot of confidence in you to have given you this project. I pray you will reciprocate his kind gesture by doing a very good job.”
Chairman of the association, Evangelist Micheal Adeyemi (JP), expressed gratitude to the state government on behalf of members. http://www.punchng.com/news/fayose-awards-n1-2bn-contract-to-local-carpenters/ |

Thursday, 11 July 2013 00:00 Editor
SIR: “On April 22, 2011, The Guardian Newspaper published an article on page 51 titled “For the attention of General Buhari” wherein certain allegations were made against General Muhammadu Buhari’s alleged role in the violence emanating from the elections.
The publication was based on information which we believed to be reliable at that time. Since the publication, however, we now have reason to believe that certain parts of the story were not verified to be correct before the publication.
We assure General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) GCFR of our highest esteem and regret any distress or embarrassment which the said publication may have caused him.” How does DAT relate to this ,all this na stunt GMB threaten same, wet in happen AIT na anyhow media? Just watch out Na stunt |

sincerenigerian: Why should anyone blame Jega when southerners believe they know it all and ignore their basic right to vote when they refused to pick up PVCs? It is not the fault of Jega that people are not picking up. Southerners are just too busy with making money. My own people did not even care to pick up PVC until about January 30th after I called them several times to do so. It was my mum who went with my dad's and brother's temporary cards and international passports to collect their PVCs for them. They released the PVCs to my mum on my brother and dad's behalf.
No one should blame Jega for that. 400k voters card yet to be delivered to Lagos is southern fault Refusal to give non indegene PVC is southern are they not his workers |

sincerenigerian: I have utmost respect for men and women who can never be compromised. Jega is one of those people who can never be compromised when discharging their duties. Jega is a man of honor. He should hold his head high.
It is now left to our competent lawyers to show this lawless president that there is law that says INEC Chairman is not a civil servant that can be asked to leave his post without the 2/3 of the Senate agreeing to it. Jega is not being paid by federal government. Jega is not a civil servant. The law only grants the president the power to nominate INEC Chairman. Power to nominate is different from power to appoint or sack. Jega is honest yet millions would have been disenfranchised assuming his "preparedness" claims is towed What an honest man |

justiceman: Wrong. The social media depicts the feelings of most Nigerians. Though there are many paid party members blogging and engaging the social media to create an impression of support for their paymasters, you still find that what is happening online is mostly the feeling of the people on ground. In fact, statistically, if you can get 2% of Nigerians (3 million) predict the election, it is a very excellent statistical measure of the feeling of the populace.
