Politics › Election: Shettima Threatens Emirs by HzRF(op): 7:52am On Mar 09, 2015 |
For daring to grant audience to opposition political parties, all first class emirs in Borno state risk loosing their seats, as Governor Kashim Shettima has vowed to sanction all traditional rulers who refuse to support the APC. *Gov Kashim Shettima Speaking at the palace of the emir of Shani, Alhaji Nasiru Shettima Mailafiya on Friday, the Governor frowned at a situation where emirs grant audience to opposition political parties, especially the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Muhammad Imam and former Governor of the state, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, who were given a heroic welcome in the area recently. Gov Shettima told the emir that he will dethrone any traditional ruler who hobnobs with the opposition as his re-election bid is a do or die affair, and he will not take lightly to any act of sabotage, especially from the traditional institution. He queried the emir of Shani for receiving the PDP campaign team in his palace, during it’s recent campaign tour of the area, stressing that the emir should bear in mind that he has the powers to do or undo. Shettima was apparently irked by the cold reception he received in the area, which he attributed to the emir’s sympathy for the PDP. But the emir, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Nairu Shettima Mailafiya did not take the threat lying low, as he told Governor Shettima to his face that as a father, he is under obligation to receive all manner of people, including people of different political persuasions. He maintained that he has no sympathy for any political party, but is merely living up to his oath of office by being fair and just to all peole, stressing that the traditional institution should not be dragged into unnecessary political controversies, hence his open door policy. Alhaji Nasiru reminded Governor Shettima that part of his charges upon him during the presentation of his staff of office was to carry everybody along and to be fair and just in his dealings with people. The Governor who departed Shani in annoyance is expected to arrive Biu, another potentially hostile reception http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/election-shettima-threatens-emirs/ |

Politics › Chad, Niger Launch Offensive Against Boko Haram by HzRF(op): 10:19pm On Mar 08, 2015 |
The armies of Niger and Chad have launched a “ground and air” offensive against the Boko Haram armed group in northeastern Nigeria, a source from the Niger government said. “An offensive is under way against Boko Haram,” the source told AFP news agency. “Very early [on Sunday] morning, the troops from Niger and Chad began an offensive against Boko Haram… in the area of Bosso and near to Diram.” A resident of Diffa, located in Niger near the Nigerian border, told AFP he saw troops headed toward the frontier early Sunday followed by the sounds of heavy arms fire. “After some time, the detonations grew further away, an apparent sign that the troops were moving inside Nigeria,” he said. Privately owned radio station Anfani, based in Diffa, reported more than 200 vehicles, including those equipped with machine guns as well as tanks, ambulances, water tankers and transport trucks, in a convoy moving toward the Nigerian border. It also reported that aircraft had targeted Boko Haram positions on Saturday and early Sunday. An aid worker told AFP heavy arms fire was coming from the direction of the Doutchi bridge connecting Niger to Nigeria on Sunday morning. The offensive comes after the African Union on Friday endorsed the creation of a regional force of up to 10,000 men to join the fight against the group which on Saturday pledged allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The force, the idea for which was adopted at an AU summit in January, will be based in Chad’s capital N’Djamena, the pan-African bloc’s Peace and Security Council said. It will be mandated “to prevent the spread of Boko Haram activities and other terrorist groups” and “eradicate their presence”, the body agreed in a meeting earlier week. Diplomats said Chad, Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger and Benin had committed to providing troops, who would “operate freely” in a still-undefined region. On Saturday, at least 51 people were killed and more than 100 injured in three bombingsin the northeastern Nigerian town of Maiduguri. Saturday’s triple blasts were the worst attack on the city since suspected Boko Haram fighters failed in their bid to seize it at the end of January. http://www.punchng.com/news/chad-niger-launch-offensive-against-boko-haram/ |

How can you explain to a man that registered in a polling unit that his thumb print cannot be identified or he's not supposed be in a polling unit? And you say the verification process will only span for 4hours. Some of these voters are touts and have low tolerance level.

OrlandoOwoh: From what I watched on Channels, the problem in Kano State was just at its early stage. But as the exercise progressed, it was perfected. From the thread of Sincerenigerian yesterday, it was said that the failure of the machines was due to the ink and other colours that some northern women use for beautification. The challenge now before the progressives in Kano State and in fact all northern states, is for the various chapters of the APC to sensitize the electorate, especialky discouraging them from using the said beautification ink or substance in their fingers days before the election. On a lighter note now, during the APC rally in Ibadan, the South West coordinator and Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola pleaded with men to abstain from sèx with their wives on the eves of the two election days. This is to ensure that the women have the stamina to file to vote. Berem, entertain no fear. We can't reduce ourselves to the level of Fani-Kayode, Fayose and Metuh. ..... Ignorance will kill you guys but I don't expect APC handlers to be lyk u Ink doesn't affect finger printing capture expect itz as thick as emulsion Jega equipment isn't hi-tech D same way their laptops was getting malwares during registration |

sincerenigerian: Werey ewure! If you have any brain left, out of all states that the exercise took place, there was a hitch in Kano alone and the hitch is fixable. By just passing necessary information to people in the North through BBC Hausa and other means of mass media, the hitch will be fixed completely. All INEC needs to do is to broadcast to women in the North to clean any form of ink on their thumbs before coming to vote. Shikenan.

Politics › What’s The Outcome Of Card Reader Testing – PDP by HzRF(op): 10:14pm On Mar 07, 2015 |
The Peoples Democratic Party has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to tell Nigerians the outcome of Saturday’s testing of Card Readers. It nevertheless says it has noted series of complains from Nigerians regarding reported lapses experienced in the testing of both the Permanent Voters Cards and the Card Readers by the commission. PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Saturday said the worrisome fallout from the test “vindicates earlier widespread calls by stakeholders that the card readers should be thoroughly tested to ascertain their workability for free, fair and credible elections before being deployed for the actual polls. Metuh expressed worry over the alleged reported lapses which he said included but “not limited to non-verification of voters’ fingerprints even after authenticating their PVCs, slow accreditation process as a result of poor internet server operations in some locations, and apparent inadequate knowledge of the card readers by both INEC officials and voters. “Our response to the emerging problems and challenges from Saturday’s testing of the card reader is ‘RES IPSA LOQUITOR’- the fact speak for itself. The PDP and indeed all well-meaning Nigerians await INEC’s official response and or its final decision after such defining challenges,” he said. He restated that INEC must realise that Nigerians expect nothing short of error-free and transparent process for credible elections come March 28 and April 11. http://www.punchng.com/news/whats-the-outcome-of-card-reader-testing-pdp/ |

sincerenigerian: There are reports of 60% success and 40% failure in the mock election that took place in Kano today. Reports that came in so far from Lagos and Delta have shown that it was an 100% success recorded in the southern states.
Here is the reason why 40% could not get their thumbs verified by the card reader in Kano State today:
The potential voters who couldn't get their thumbs verified were as a result of their hand in ink as shown below. Why displaying gross stupidity If Jega has actually purchased the best device the set of pple the card reader won't be able to read Are pple with dead cell, damaged fingers ridges, paint as thick as emulsion and those dat didn't reg There is no way pple won't be disenfranchised if card reader is used |
