African parents are gifts that keep up on giving – they are loving, they are tough, they are inspiring and can sometimes drive you crazy (then again, all parents, regardless of race or ethnicity, are all guilty of this), but we can’t deny that they are the absolute best.

1. Calling Their Children From Far Away To Hand Them Things Less Than a Meter Away

Okay that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but it’s not uncommon for African parents to ask their children to do things they can easily do themselves, or send their children on errands they can easily go on themselves. They argue that the point of this is to teach their children duty and responsibility, and considering how resourceful African children eventually become, African parents just might be onto something.



2. Prohibiting Children From Calling Elders By Their First Names

In African homes, it is considered disrespectful for children to call an elder by their first name, and African parents are zealous in ensuring such disrespect does not occur in their homes. It is more appropriate for children to address elders as ‘uncle’ or ‘aunty’ (though the children might have no familial ties or relation with the person). In less Afrocentric homes, the children are allowed to address elders with ‘mr’, ‘miss’, ‘mrs’, ‘sir’, ‘ma’ or ‘madam’ in addition to their actual names, but never with just their names.



3. Speaking To Their Children in Proverbs and Metaphors

This is done often by African parents when they are upset or dissatisfied with the actions of their child/children. African parents use the proverbs and/or metaphors to better drive home their point to their children, and ring a note of warning and/or caution. If an African parent speaks to their child/children with a proverb and/or metaphor, they mean business and it’s definitely not something to be taken lightly.



4. They Seldom Admit They Are Wrong

For some reason, African parents seldom admit they are wrong. They might acknowledge they have erred through their actions, but they will hardly ever verbalize it or apologize for it. It is difficult to understand, but some argue that it might have something to do with the fact that they believe that admitting their faults and verbally apologizing to their children will put the respect the children have for them at risk, and humanize them to the point of possibly losing the respect of their children

A Lionel Messi hat-trick inspired a comprehensive 5-0 Catalan derby win over Espanyol for Barcelona, who continued their 100 per cent start to life under Ernesto Valverde in La Liga.


Barcelona start the evening with 13 straight victories at home in the league, their best run since January 2014 and superior to anyone else in Spain’s top tier.

Lovely play by Messi! The Argentine picks up the ball inside the right-hand side of the Espanyol box and immediately skips past two defenders. He showcases lovely skill to get the better of the two players, and he then blasts a rocket of a shot straight past Pau from close range.


Rakitic did well to pick out Messi with a clever pass into the heart of the Espanyol penalty area, but the Argentine was at least a yard offside. The visitors won't be happy with that, as it's a poor decision that has gone against them.

He initially loses the ball on the edge of the Espanyol penalty area but it deflects off two players before falling to Jordi Alba, who sets up the Argentine to poke in from close range.


42' Piatti hits the post! Espanyol win the ball back from the determined hosts and are able to push forward on another good attack down the right wing.


A lovely cross into the penalty area isn't fully dealt with by the home side and is only cleared as far as Piatti, who quickly unleashes a shot and hits the woodwork with a thumping half-volley.


50' Piatti almost pulls one back! Poor control by Alba gifts a throw-in to Espanyol over on the right flank. It's taken quickly and eventually worked over to Lopez, who thumps a lofted pass forward.


It should be easily dealt with by Alba but once again his touch is terrible, allowing Piatti to unleash a rocket of a shot that flies just over the top of the crossbar.


67' GOAL! Barcelona 3-0 Espanyol (Messi HAT-TRICK)

Messi wraps up his hat-trick! The Argentine links up really well with Suarez and sets up the latter to shoot, but he's closed down well by Lopez and can't get the better of the midfielder. 


Instead, the Uruguayan pokes the ball back to Alba, who quickly tees up Messi to easily beat Pau with a lovely low strike.


68' A huge roar goes around the stadium as Ousmane Dembele comes on to replace Deulofeu and make his Barcelona debut.


81' New signing goes close from scoring! And it's Paulinho. A lovely, curling cross from Suarez beats every defender inside the box before finding Paulinho over at the far post, but the Brazilian can't quite hit the target with his poked, close-range effort.



87' GOAL! Barcelona 4-0 Espanyol (Pique)

Pique makes it 4-0! Rakitic's cross in from the corner is a great one and picks out Pique, who rises high above Mario Hermoso and manages to easily beat Pau with his downward header on the edge of the six-yard box.


90' GOAL! Barcelona 5-0 Espanyol (Suarez)

It's another for Barcelona! Dembele breaks down the right wing and quickly sends an excellent pass into the box and over to Saurez, who meets it well and easily beats Pau with a brilliant low finish into the far corner of the net.

A 12-year old house girl, Gloria Ukanam has reportedly turned her madam’s bedroom to a live porn centre as she peeps through the opening in the door while she’s having sex with her husband in the night.
The girl was caught, thoroughly beaten and sent away by her madam over the act. The incident happened at Chris Idowu Street, off Idimu Road in Ejigbo area of Lagos where they reside.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the girl’s secret was leaked when she told their neighbour who was her age mate that her madam used to shout and cry in the night whenever she was making love with her husband. She revealed that the noise always woke her up and she will be peeping them through the door opening till they finished because the light was always on.
It was gathered that her age mate then told her mother what Ukanam said and her mother in turned informed the couple about what was happening. They eventually set trap for her and caught her.
The couple (name withheld) lived in a room and parlour apartment with an adjoining door between the two rooms. The couple’s children used to sleep in the parlour with Ukanam while the couple slept in the other room.
It was while in the other room as husband and wife that Ukanam used to wake up and watch them. When they got the information, they reportedly trapped Ukanam around 1.am when they suddenly opened the adjoining door and met her standing there. They asked her what he was doing in front of the door at that hour when she had slept around 10.pm but she could not explain.
They accused her of being a witch who always came to attack them in the night but she denied. She eventually opened up and told them that she was only peeping at them. She reportedly told them that madam’s noise usually woke her up and she was tempted to peep to know what was happening. And that she has been doing so since she started living with them for over 14 months.
The madam broke down in tears and descended on her. Very early in the morning she took her to the person that brought her to them as house girl.
When a reporter visited the house, the couple were not around to comment. However the residents confirmed the incident but frowned at the conduct of the house girl. One of the residents confirmed that the house girl has been sent back to the person who brought her to the couple.
