nemesis2u: well bro i have no explanation to offer, i am at complete loss of worlds after i read the post
u should ask the guy for the name of the ship borne radar which can detect submarines, i will surely recommend my navy to buy it at the earliest.
and to think of the billions of dollars wasted on sonars by almost everybody.
and also plz ask him to explain how the ship borne radar manages to break the laws of physics ie overcome the radio horizon limitation in order to detect a submarine below the radio horizon.
as for anti clutter radar , just ask him to be more specific like which ship borne radar has the capability to reject volume clutter and surface clutter in a heavy sea state in order to identity a tiny periscope .
and ask him to be precise and technical i am not in the mood for a english comprehension lesson Research topic spotted Covert1 your response is needed if you have the time on the link below https://www.nairaland.com/1962290/african-militaries-strictly-discussions-thread/17 |

nemesis2u: yes maybe or maybe even VPN or maybe neither
anyways i am curious, u said that service provider is in France,
is it legal? Well, not sure if it's legal but I've seen a vsat that route all packets to Israel first and uses Israeli IP. So I just assumed it could happen to someone else. I only experience it with that ISP then and I guess it some kind of backup for their main link. |

Covert1: Dear you are not out of order about Radars being able to detect subs on sea surface when it snorkels or uses a periscope and Technology has advanced today and some Radars have anti-clutter capability etc. FLIR too is used to detect it's heat on sea surface or track it when dark. NN ships operate sophisticated technology.
We don't sail the high seas to Australia, China and back trusting the goodwill of Nations alone knowing some will rejoice at any misfortune of ours. Submarines are great assets and great threats too so no one takes chances yet it remains prey, it's like searching for a dangerous snake.
There are a whole host of options in ASW warfare which is why I said "Integrated Armada". Apart from airborne crafts both rotary and winged using varied sensors like sonabouys or hydrophones to surface combatants with towed or hull mounted Sonar (passive or active) we have our extensive eyes in the sky satellites being one of them (with very high resolution) beyond what obtains anywhere else in the region. It allows us to map the waters of the continent and understand the character of the enemy. Training and experience helps calculate and determine where, when or how assets are moved including subs which is why I said "we know them before we sail".
What obtains now in SSA or questionably Africa as a whole as Subs is only suitable for littoral defence and indequate cos ships have endurance, the sub would snorkel, want to change depth or may send radio signal at some point to base and it's bingo.
Crude intelligence is also a factor. Warfare is not just buying guns, boats and planes. It is more intelligence. Experts know this and they concurred Nigeria's Navy could show up off Cape Town if provoked. Nobody is saying war but in gun boat diplomacy statements are made with presence just like they did.
Don't think otherwise only we don't give out specific details. Crude methods are still applied in today's trade craft. So Nairaland is not off limits. But I'll still speak in parables. Those that have ears let them hear. Finally I don't comprehend the motive of some who pick on knowledge to take potshots.
Anyway... Thanks bro I've being wondering why radar could see small Boats at short distance but won't see a submarine on the surface of the water. Nemesis2u, you have more explanation to make. |

and btw if you actually bothered reading my posts i explicitly said i was part of the so called e wars and said we(as in including me) should move it to another thread, I tried twice today!! You are the only one that have refused to let go and you keep calling others trolls. |

Maths, English and physics is the general requirement but some schools like UI would add chemistry. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Iblawi1: 10:22am On Jul 20, 2017 |
nemesis2u: bro i always felt ur a sensible person so let me correct u
the radars of a ship will never be able to pick up a un-submerged submarine, forget about a submarine snorkel , against the heavy sea clutter.
which is why ships have hull mounted sonars or towed sonars to detect submarines
the radars of a ship r optimized for
1.picking up air targets at long ranges
2.picking up surface vessel targets at short ranges
it is basically due to simple laws of physics ie curvature of the earth aka limitation of radio horizon
for detecting submarines u will need ASW helicopters or patrol aircrafts or UAVs equipped with sensors like sonar buoys, dunking sonars , MAD sensor , airborne specialized maritime surface search radars , carbon emission detection sensors etc including ships which have hull mounted sonars or towed sonars to detect submarines. Thanks |

Covert1: Obviously clear he's uninformed. Looking like child's play and I'm not cut out for that. He's feeling like they have a nuclear submarine. Their sub can only stay submerged for 400nmi which is just enough to come out of their EEZ and back. Our Chinese OPVs have radars that can see the sub charging dead batteries around 250km away. Maybe he needs more education on why you called it prey to surface ships. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Iblawi1: 10:23pm On Jul 19, 2017 |
Covert1: First the SADF is not the SANDF, far from it. Secondly Submarines are prey (very important you understand that) and yours are not Nuclear powered an even greater disadvantage. And what is half your fleet? Your entire active fleet is smaller than the Nigerian Navy. Methinks first you don't know this or you downplay it's efficacy in Total War: Nigeria invests in infrastructure that makes sense and it gives it advantage. We know the position of your ships and potentially your subs even before we sail. You don't stand a chance. That guy doesn't know their sub can only stay submerged just for a short period. |

ActivateKruger: How would you like them to sink, via a topido or via an Exocet missile? Either way it's target practice The ships I mentioned won't move alone dude. The main thing was not mentioned. Any way good night. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Iblawi1: 9:59pm On Jul 19, 2017 |
ActivateKruger: That's 1 submarine for every 833km, you have 0 for your 850km coastline. No argument here, move on. I laugh you in Swazi and Zulu. Your EEZ is 200 miles into the ocean. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Iblawi1: 9:57pm On Jul 19, 2017 |
ActivateKruger: So you think we started operating Submarines recently, we have more than half a century headstart provided you just got submarines today which you obviously don't.
So shame me on how you could defeat our fleet, I'll show you how half our fleet could defeat your current and future ordered fleet. Go on, I'm all yours You might want to do some editing. |

 3 subs for 2500km coastline? |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Iblawi1: 9:33pm On Jul 19, 2017 |
officialdayo: Let me explain . Jln115 has insecurity issues, when those ships arrive, he knows his arguments here on SA navy being better will be flawed.
Remember , the jf17 delivery news is still a shock to him, you want to give him hypertension with this too ni? It simply means Nigeria can project force to SA while South Africa will have just 4 frigate to protect 2500km coastline along 2 oceans (atlantic and Indian Ocean). |

jln115: Just FYI this debated started with me simply stating my opinion with regards to Nigerian weapons purchases......I even emphasized that it was an opinion!!!
You ret@rds simply decided to loose your fvcking minds about it. This is not a debate. Things happen differently here unlike SA that brags about military procurements. We just wanted you to know Nigeria can start procurement process from bottom to top instead of top to bottom. |

jln115: There is no logic to what that guy says......all of a sudden Nigeria is buying frigates, subs LDPs.....
Now I'm not saying they can't.....but during a recession.....yeah I don't think so. Nigerian Navy already had plan to buy frigates and subs before now. Nigeria might be in recession but won't stop us from funding our military requirement. I believe the numbers would be reduced sha. |

LTGEN: Yes the Budget is inflated but another Logical reason is Nigeria paid Russia directly for the Three Kilmov RD 93 Engines. Man dey water right now when man reach house I go get link na phone I dey use and service is spotty. This is not logical at all. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Iblawi1: 10:56am On Jul 16, 2017 |
Xbee007: Simply "inflated" I just added "over" as an emphasis. Inflate means to enlarge na? Bros, the Russians delivery of the remaining 10 Mi35m will be in 2018 which is next year. How will you deliver what have not been paid for? The budget is under inflated so that people won't make noise. That budget was signed when Nigeria was in recession. How will you explain to people that you know what you are doing? The same budget claimed airmen's accommodation in Shasha, Sokoto, Minna, Warri, Portharcourt, etc is just 500 million. How will you explain this knowing this is the price for a duplex in Maitama, Asokoro or VGC? |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Iblawi1: 10:36am On Jul 16, 2017 |
Xbee007: They were over inflated. I don't know y cos the entire 2016 Nigerian budget is barely half of the amount you see on those two MI-35. So it is not possible for two helicopters to cost more than our entire budget. Over inflated or under inflated? |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Iblawi1: 10:12am On Jul 16, 2017*. Modified: 11:15am On Jul 16, 2017 |
Algerian1: 2 mi 35 twice more expensive then 3 JF17 ? how ? Military will never make the true figures public. Don't be surprised if you see more or less of everything mentioned. I can spot air men's Lodge in multiple locations for just 500 million and that's the price of a duplex here in Abuja or Lagos. |
