Generally, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is an arm of the executive body that is empowered by the state to protect the lives and properties of its citizenry. They are also mandated to enforce the laws and statutes of Nigeria and to reduce civil disorder. The police are usually described as a law enforcement authority, but specifically their functions exceed the aspect of law enforcement. However, the responsibilities and functions are beyond the scope of this article. On police salary, the Nigeria police force (NPF) is organized in a command (authority) structure that helps it maintain order and control. It is further divided into grades and steps. This serves as a distinction among officers at the same level. Among other things, all of these structures and grades finally serves as the basis of the salaries received by each officer in the force. Officers in the Nigerian armed forces are categorized into commissioned and non-commissioned. The Nigeria police force(NPF) takes no exception in this. It is divided into two categories – commissioned and non-commissioned officers. The commissioned officers are the ones in senior ranks while the non-commissioned are the rank and file, the very junior officers. The NDLEA salary structure is based on the grade level and steps which serves as distinction among officers in the same level and also helps maintain order and control. The agency is a paramilitary structure, therefore the salary is determined by the Consolidated Paramilitary Salary Structure (CONPASS). Consolidated with the basic salaries in image 1 are other allowances EXCEPT RENT which is shown in the Image 2 below. The salary also depends on the level of education one holds. While HND Holders are placed on Level 7; Degree Holders are placed on Level 8. And the ongoing recruitment is for BSC and HND holders.
