The court held that Ajudua will remain in prison custody pending the hearing of his bail application and commencement of trial today. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Ajudua before Justice Mojisola Dada on a 12-count charge bordering on fraud and conspiracy. According to the EFCC, Ajudua and his accomplice, Joseph Ochunor, defrauded Zalaf on April 2, 1993. The arraignment of Ajudua and his accomplices had suffered series of setbacks that led to 44 adjournments before several judges. The same scenario played out before Justice Josephine Oyefeso who took over the matter last year before the Lagos State Chief Judge (CJ), Justice Opeyemi Oke, reassigned it to a special court for accelerated hearing. In the fresh charge filed before the court yesterday, the EFCC said Ajudua, on April 2, 198 in Ikeja, allegedly conspired with Ochunor, said to be on the run, and obtained $268,000.00 from Zalaf of Technical International Limited, a division of Mystic Company Limited in Germany. Ajudua was also accused to have obtained $225,000.00 by false pretence from Zalaf. EFCC accused Ajudua of uttering and forging Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) official receipt numbers 128 and 138, purported to have been issued by the apex bank to Zalaf. “On May 12, he was also said to have forged a Contract Completion Certificate (CCC) purported to have been issued by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Falomo, Lagos, to defraud Technical International Limited. Ajudua pleaded not guilty to the charges. Following the defendant’s plea, his lawyer, Norrison Quakers, through an application dated June 1, applied for his bail. Quakers urged the court to grant his client bail and allow him to continue to enjoy same bail conditions as earlier granted by Justice Josephine Oyefeso in a related charge. The lawyer assured the court that his client would not jump bail. “We urge your lordship to grant the defendant’s bail because he was granted bail by your learned brother. He has never for once absented himself from court except when he was out of the country. “Also, we want my Lord to consider his bail application because of his health condition. “He will need medical attention from time to time and he cannot access that in the prison custody,” Quakers said. Counsel to the EFCC, Mr. Seidu Atteh, opposed the bail. According to a report by The Guardian, a member of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Committee, former Super Eagles midfielder, Garba Lawal, says coach Genrot Rohr did not consult them before announcing the squad for the World Cup in Russia. Coach Gernot Rohr on Sunday made public a 23-man squad that will prosecute the Mundial, which begin on June 14. Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, Lawal said none of the committee members was aware of the final list before it was disclosed to the public. “I got to know about the list on the social media like every other Nigerian. And I was surprised that the technical committee was not told about the list before it was made public. “It seems we don’t know what we are doing. Sokratis Papastathopoulos is closing in on a move to Arsenal , claims his father, with the Borussia Dortmund defender having snubbed Manchester United to link up with the Gunners. Warda was arraigned before a Shuwa magistrate’s court in Madagali, Adamawa State through the intervention of community members. The neighbours had reported the third degree burns sustained by the five-year-old to the Community Response Network in the area led by the District Head of Duhu, Mohammed Sanusi. Sanusi said the mother was handed over to officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps after she confessed to setting the daughter’s hand on fire for her missing N170 which was later found with the girl. The NSCDC handed Warda over to the police who arraigned her before Shuwa magistrate’s court. The court ordered that the mother be remanded in prison custody. The police report indicated that the suspect who was a driver in the same sachet water producing company where the deceased was an accountant, was arrested on Tuesday, 29th May 2018 The incident was reported at the Onipanu, Ota, Divisional headquarters of the command by one Moses Owolabi. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect was said to have stocked the deceased on several occasions to have an amorous relationship with her but she bluntly refused his advances. He further said that on that fateful day, the deceased was alone in the factory when the suspect came in and attempted to forcefully have carnal knowledge of her. Oyeyemi said while the victim was struggling with him, he strangled her to death. On the strength of the report, he said the Divisional Police Officer, Onipanu, Ota Division, Sangobiyi Johnson, led detectives to the scene where they met the suspect unconscious. Oyeyemi said the investigation revealed that the suspect having realised that he had committed a serious crime made efforts to kill himself by drinking hypo and izal. He said, however, the DPO and his men quickly rushed him to a hospital for medical attention where he was treated and discharged before being detained. The undercover operatives of Lagos State Police Command attached to Ojo Police Station, on 25/05/2018, arrested one Mr. Uche Julian Nwajiakwu for impersonating as a lawyer. This made it the second time a fake lawyer is being arrested at Ojo Magistrate Court. The first was the arrest of one Chris Elisha who was arrested on 6th of February, 2018, after being in illegal practise for fifteen years. . Meanwhile, Uche Julian Nwajiakwu, the latest man to be arrested for illegal law practice, had been on the game since 2015. According to the suspect, he fell in love with law practice when a friend of his commissioned him to act as a lawyer in order to serve his tenant a quit notice. He was handsomely rewarded after the deed and since then, there was no looking back. However, luck ran out on him recently, while he was arguing on a bail application for his client when intelligent lawyers in the court suspected him. The lawyers said his quackery was too obvious to be ignored. The police investigation into the case thus far, revealed that the suspect did not study law in any of the Nigerian universities nor anywhere else in the world. A Kaduna-based radical Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, has lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari for allegedly allowing himself to be surrounded by ignorant advisers and those who do not have people at heart. According to DailyNigerian, the cleric’s remark followed the appearance of the mugshots of a former governor of Kaduna State, Ramalan Yero, holding charge board. Mr Gumi likened the president’s advisers to “mad men” as, according to him, are not “men of the people”. “The president has become a prisoner. Nobody tells him the truth. “Tell me a sane person around him. So he takes the advice of the ignorant. The Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) confirmed the death, saying it occurred at the early hours of today after a domestic accident at his Lagos home. Aged 33, Ajetunmobi died at the hospital where he was receiving treatment. Ajetunmobi last international duty for Nigeria was at the 2015 African Games in Congo Brazzaville. The 19-year-old suspect, Aliyu Basala Yakutchi, without mincing words, confessed to have sold his kid brother, Yamusa Ibrahim Yakutchi, to ritual killer in order to raise money to pay his wife’s bride price. The incident was said to have occurred about 10 days ago. Aliyu, from Nagenu village in Katcha Local Government Area, sold his brother to 30-year-old Legbo, from Afuwagi village in Mokwa Local Government Area. Police disclosed that Legbo was presently on the run. Aliyu, who claimed to be the third among his mother’s six children, said that he sold his brother on credit. Aliyu, who apparently didn’t know or understand the gravity of his action, pleaded with the police to release him unconditionally so that he could go and tend to his farm. He said: “I decided to sell my younger brother for N20,000 on credit so that I can raise money to pay for the bride price of my 14-year-old lover. I took my younger brother, Yamusa, to Malam Legbo for money rituals because he promised to pay me N20,000 if he succeeded in using him for money rituals. I wanted to use the money to finance my marriage to Fatimah. Our father is dead, but our mother is still alive, her name is Hajiya Yakure. “Prior to my arrest by the police, I had not been paid by Legbo. The money might not even be enough for my marriage requirements.” Asked the whereabouts of Legbo, Aliyu said: “I think he ran away with my brother when he got the information that the police were looking for him. I blame the devil for pushing me into hatching this evil plan against my brother. I don’t even know where Legbo has taken my brother to.” While exonerating Fatimah from the crime, Aliyu noted: “She does not know about my evil plan to sell my little brother to offset her bride price. I’m a farmer and a bachelor. I got enrolled into an Islamic school during my childhood days but my parents couldn’t afford to send me to school. I only speak our local dialect, Nupe language; I cannot speak or understand Hausa language too.” As at the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of Legbo and Yamusa were still unknown. She, however, denied committing the offence; while the judge, Justice Vera Venda, ordered that she be remanded in Suleja Prisons, and adjourned the case until June 13 for the hearing of her bail application. Ofuegbu was faces charges bordering on cheating, criminal misappropriation and obtaining money by false pretext. The prosecutor, Mrs. Hadiza Esai, had told the court that the defendant allegedly sold the house situated at Dawaki area of the FCT for N25m. She said that the alleged offences contravened sections 320 and 308 of the Penal Code. Her lawyer, Mr. Chijioke Osuagwu, applied for her bail and argued that his client remains innocent until proved otherwise. “The motion is brought pursuant to sections 6(6), 35 and 36(5) and (6b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “Our motion for bail is also backed by sections 158, 162, 165 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015. “Our prayers are contained in the motion paper; this motion is supported by four-paragraph affidavit and we rely on all the paragraphs, especially paragraph three,” he said. Osuagwu urged the court to exercise its discretion in granting the bail in favour of the applicant and drew the court’s attention to the deteriorating health of his client. Enugu State Police Command has commenced investigation into the alleged killing of a father by his son at Ojinato, a community in the state. The Command’s spokesman, Superintendent Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement in Enugu on Tuesday that the incident happened on May 4. According to the statement, the suspect’s real name has not been established but investigation is continuing. It said that the deceased, Pa Nathaniel Chukwuemerie, 83, who hailed from Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra, was killed by his son known as `The Boy’. According to the South China Morning Post, Kim was a 'mystery guest' at a summit in northern China. He is reported to have flown in and landed in the port city of Dalian in the Liaoning province on Monday. Kim rarely travels by plane and his travel plans are usually top secret. Kim is reported to have told Xi: “As long as relevant parties eliminate the hostile policy and security threats against North Korea, North Korea does not need to have nuclear weapons, and denuclearization is achievable.” During his visit on Monday and Tuesday, Kim told Xi he hoped relevant parties would take "phased" and "synchronised" measures to realise denuclearisation and lasting peace on the Korean peninsula. The police said the 47-year-old called her mother on the telephone immediately after committing the alleged crime to tell her. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, who gave the update on Monday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja, said the suspect also sent a message to her sister on WhatsApp shortly before the incident. The CP added that the suspect had procured a set of new knives from which she allegedly picked to kill her 50-year-old spouse. It was reported that Udeme last Thursday allegedly stabbed her husband with a knife at their residence on Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, Ajah. She was also said to have cut off his private parts and placed them on his hand before she stabbed herself in the stomach. Udeme, however, survived the attack and was admitted to a hospital. Imohimi said investigations into the case revealed that the couple had marital issues bordering on extramarital affairs. He said, “On the day of the incident, the suspect sent a WhatsApp message to her sister-in-law complaining about her husband and asking her to pray for them. She equally asked God to forgive her. “The suspect, Udeme Odibi, in her statement, confessed to the commission of the alleged crime and called her mother on the telephone that she had killed her husband. The suspect had hit her husband with a frying pan on his head before stabbing him with a knife.” Imohimi explained that Udeme, after ripping out her husband’s intestines, did not seek assistance from their neighbours, adding that the killing was suspected to be premeditated. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina on Tuesday said it is only President Muhammadu Buhari that can reveal his ailment or details about his health. Adesina said this during a phone-in-interview on Channels Television Breakfast Programme, Sunrise Daily while reacting to question about the President’s ailment deserving another trip to London, United Kingdom. According to him, details about the President’s health is private and personal. “That is something private and personal. The fact that a man is a President does not remove his right and privileges to privacy. So, unless Mr President comes out voluntarily and willingly to tell the country that ‘this is what I have suffered from, this is what I have been treated for’…even the medical doctor does not have the right to say it. “It is in the Hippocratic oath that the medical doctors take. They cannot disclose the ailment of the patient without the permission of that patient,” he explained. Senior Special Assistant to the President, Garba Shehu announced on Monday that President Buhari will on Tuesday embark on a four-day trip to the United Kingdom to see his doctor. This has generated mixed reaction with many making references to President Buhari ‘technical stopover’ in London during his recent US-trip. The recently announced UK trip is coming barely nine months after he returned from a medical vacation on August 19, 2017, spending more than 100 days. Adesina in the interview on Tuesday, however, allayed fears, saying there is no cause for alarm. “There is no cause for alarm because he (the President) is up and about and doing his duties. What he is going for is a review. We all need that from time to time. There is nobody that is 100% healthy. He is just going for a review. I want to believe that he will come back on Saturday as planned,” he said. Giving itinerary of Buhari’s trip, the Presidential spokesperson said Buhari after his return from the UK will visit Jigawa State. “The President is going to receive some letters of credence from some new ambassadors posted to the country, that will last till about early afternoon. After that, he will get set to go to London just for a medical review. He will be away for four days. He will back in the country on Saturday by the grace of God. “On Monday and Tuesday, he will visit Jigawa state.” When questioned of the guaranty if the President will not exceed four days in the UK, Adesina said, “When you talk of guarantee, man cannot guarantee. A batch of 218 Nigerians, which included seven pregnant women, on Tuesday voluntarily returned from the volatile North African country of Libya where they had been stranded enroute Europe. The returnees arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos about 3.44 a.m. aboard a chartered Libyan Airlines Airbus A330-200 aircraft with registration number 5A-LAU. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that they comprised of 46 adult females, five female infants, 161 adult males, two male children and four male infants. The returnees were brought with the assistance of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the European Union (EU). The South West Zonal Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Yakubu Suleiman, said a total of 8,129 Nigerians had returned so far under the EU and IOM Assisted Voluntary Returnees Programme. Mr Suleiman advised the returnees to be champions of change in sensitising the youths against the urge of seeking greener pastures through irregular migration due to unforeseen dangers. He assured them that the federal government was pursuing socio-economic programmes aimed at giving employable opportunities to the youths. According to him, the government has intensified efforts at curbing the menace of corruption that has bedevilled the country and denied Nigerians the opportunities to put up their best toward its development. Speaking to journalists, one of the returnees, Titilayo Kayode-Owojori, from Ile Ife, Osun, regretted embarking on the ill-fated journey but thanked God for returning home safely. She said: “Nigeria is far better than where we thought we could get better lives. The Libyans live with the sweat of the blacks. “If the Arabs see us working and collecting wages, they wait and burst our houses to collect the money. If they don’t see any money, they will kidnap us and ask us to call Nigeria to send us money to free ourselves.
