Primary Assignments
At the end of the orientation course, it
is expected that you would have
benefited greatly from the training to
see you through the service year. This
is why you must avail yourself of the
opportunity of the orientation course
which have been carefully put in place
for you.
At the end of the camping program,
every corps member collects his/her
letter of posting to a place of primary
assignment. Your place of primary
assignment is any establishment
where you have been posted to for
the purpose of rendering services to
your fatherland in fulfilment of the
national service.
For the remaining months of your
service year after the orientation
course, your place of primary
assignment becomes your new
environment where you will meet new
faces and cultures, which probably
may be different from the ones you
have been used to over the years. The
interesting thing about service year is
that it tends to break down walls of
prejudices built over time. Tales and
hearsay about tribes that are different
from yours, are usually discovered to
be false during the service year
especially if you are posted outside
your own state of origin.
Your place of primary assignment is
your centre of adaptation, a place
where you will gradually transit from
studentship life into the mainstream
of office working culture. So, you must
be level headed and respectful to your
fellow staff members of the
establishment you are working. Some
corps members in the course of their
service year succeeded in getting
absorbed by their employers after
national service.
So many activities take place within
the service year ranging from
changing from your bad old ways to
good, resourceful, productive and
responsible life style. It is a period
when you take a serious look into
your past and what you want the
future to manifest for you. Remember
that the moment you step into your
place of primary assignment, you
become part and parcel of the
establishment. Every rule guiding the
conduct of members of staff of the
establishment equally applies to you.
Hence you stand to reap any good
thing that may accrue to the staff
members. But if you constitute
yourself a nuisance rather than an
asset, you stand to lose greatly. In
summary, ensure that you comply
with instructions and directives from
both your employer and the National
Youth Service Corps authorities during
the service year. You will have every
cause to smile at the end of the day.
The Dos and Don’ts During Primary
Assignment
(a) All applications, complaints, letters
etc must be routed through corps
member's employer to the Zonal
Inspector.
(b) All applications, complaints, letter
to the State Secretariat must pass
through the Zonal Inspector for
comments/recommendations to the
State Director for consideration.
(c) Corps members must be physically
present at their places of primary
assignments.
(d) Corps members must receive
written approval from the State
Director through the Zonal Inspector
before embarking on any journey
outside the State of service.
(e) It is mandatory for every corps
member to submit monthly clearance
from his/her employer to enable the
NYSC pay monthly allowance.
(f) Every corps member must open an
account with designated banks as may
be directed by the State Secretariat.

Ogezita: Please can anyone give tips for pregnant corpers who intends to serve on how it will be in camp, will they be given preferential treatment?
you will report to camp, but you won't stay more than 2days, you will also be asked to apply for deployment to the state you want mostly where your husband is.

Registration Tips
Your one year National Service begins
from the date you are documented
for service at the NYSC orientation
camp. Stages of registration.
(a) Submission of call-up letter (do
not laminate the call-up letter )
(b) Presentation of your last
institutions ID card for screening
(c) Presentation of original certificates/
statement of results for screening
After screening of the above, you will
be issued with
(a) State code number which is
exclusively yours
(b) A meal ticket (card)
(c) A file to house the call-up letter,
photocopies of your credentials and
other NYSC forms you are expected to
complete
(d) Register your name in the “Book of
Life”
(e)Filling of series of NYSC forms
under the guide of NYSC officials
Points to Note
1. Read carefully all the instructions in
every handout, booklet or forms
before filling them. Do not hurry in
completing the forms.
2. Write legibly on all forms to be
completed, preferably use capital
letters especially the certificate format.
3. Ensure that you supply accurate
and complete information on all
required formats
4. Where you are required to supply
any address be it next of kin, home
address or mailing address, you must
include name of street, house
number, name of town in addition to
post office number. This will help
greatly to trace your parents/next of
kin in case of an emergency. It can
also help even after the service year.
5. Always take your turn (queue up)
for everything for the purpose of
orderliness.
