Politics / Sam Nda-isaiah’s Presidential Declaration Speech by idrisa334: 10:27pm On Nov 04, 2014
Hello Nigeria!

To the Chairman of the APC, and all APC delegates all over the Federation of Nigeria, and all the good people of this great country, I am today declaring my candidacy for the presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
I would like to begin by paying tribute to the star-studded slate of presidential aspirants of our great party: General Muhammadu Buhari, my role model and political boss with whom I have been in the trenches for over a decade since he joined politics; Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who has lived a life of service; Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who has changed the face of Kano; and my friend, Rochas Okorocha, a true and proud Nigerian. Anyone of us who becomes President next year would be infinitely better than the one we currently have.President Jonathan has been totally unable to perform the most basic responsibility of any leader, which is provision of security to the people of his country. Nigeria has been degraded to unimaginable levels. We are now the laughing stock of those countries we used to laugh at.

Nigerians who are old enough know that this is not how it used to be. As a country, we are much better than this. The Nigeria we knew, even though far from being the ideal, was good enough to provide security and the basic necessities of everyday living. And we even had enough to cater for other African nations. That was when we were a regional superpower. But not anymore.
I have seen Nigeria as a child growing up in a neighbourhood not far from where I stand now; as a school pupil in a government primary school in Kaduna where primary education was free; as a secondary school student in Kaduna where secondary education was free; as an undergraduate at the University of Ife, when my Niger State scholarship was more than sufficient for me. I have seen Nigeria as a northern youth corps member serving in Ilawe-Ekiti and Ikere-Ekiti in today’s Ekiti State where I was treated like a special one. And I have seen Nigeria as a young graduate when I landed a very good job within one month of completion of the NYSC. I have seen Nigeria when our country’s schools and universities were among the best in the world and foreigners from all over the world trooped into this country to acquire world-class education. I have lived in a Nigeria when our hospitals were among the best, at least in Africa, and all drugs and medicines and surgeries were offered free by government. And all these happened when our revenues as a nation were far less than what we have today. That was when Nigeria fought a civil war without taking a loan; even the post-war reconstruction was carried out without a loan.

Politics / PDP 16-year Rule Will End In 2015 – APC by idrisa334: 2:59pm On Nov 02, 2014
The major opposition party, All Progressives Congress, has vowed to bring to an end the 16-year rule of the Peoples Democratic Party at the federal level in 2015.

The chairman of the Oyo State chapter of the party, Akin Oke, said the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan would be voted out of power as “Nigerian voters are expected to effect a desirous change through the ballot boxes and throw up only the genuine democrats and patriots as their political leaders.”
The party, in a reaction to SUNDAY PUNCH enquiry, stated that Nigerians had in recent months indicated their willingness to reclaim the country from the hands of bad leaders and ensure that the “most populous black nation does not sink further down or collapse completely.”

The party said, “Nigerians have had to groan under the forceful rule of the PDP since 1999 till date. It is an indisputable fact that the PDP cannot offer the nation the desired good governance or, at least, show improvement on its palpable incompetence, insincerity and lack of vision as it concerns channeling the cause of Nigeria and Nigerians. Rather than show promise, the ruling party is busy destroying all the sectors of the nation’s economy and setting the people against themselves.

“With the calibre of patriots in the refreshing alternative called the APC and the choice of our prospective candidates for all elective posts in the 2015 general elections coupled with the resolve of the electorate to facilitate change, the end to PDP’s reign has come. Therefore, we congratulate the citizenry in advance while we urge them to keep the spirit of change for a better Nigeria.”

It however urged Nigerians to support whoever emerges as its presidential candidate in a bid to win next year’s presidential poll.

In a statement made available to our correspondent, the Oyo state APC also claimed that the current PDP-led Federal Government had made no attempt to develop the South-West because of the hold the APC has on many of the states in the geopolitical zone.

Politics / Confab Report Unacceptable - Igbo Leaders by idrisa334: 8:32am On Nov 01, 2014
ENUGU – A group of prominent Igbo political leaders, the Igbo Leaders of Thought (ILT) has called for the restructuring of the Nigerian federation to make for the devolution of greater powers to, this time, not the states but larger and capable political units called zones.

ILT believes that the creation of these zones will create a more united, strong and prosperous Nigeria where the states through these zones will be allowed to develop in their own pace and time.
