The mistake is with the summation of her O'level result. From what the distinguished Prof. posted above. The summation of her O'level result should be 50/64 not 44/64. Therefore her O'level score should be 78.1%. Since her JAMB is 320/400. That is 40/50=80%. 78.1+80/2=79.05%. Which is above the merit cut off. She should make the merit list sir.
Infact, she is far above the cut off sir. It is a privilege to have you on Nairaland sir. These are her results above. If you calculate her points from them, she had above the merit cut off. I believe the mistake is from the computer or it operator. Actually, the system chose only 7 of her subjects instead of 8 subjects. cc: Seun, Adesegunfat, lalasticlala Let 's help this girl

My name is Adesegun Fatusi, and I am the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, OAU, Ile-Ife. The case of the Aror Oghenerukewve has just been brought to my notice. To throw more light on her case, I will present the detaild fact here.
With a score of 320, her mark from UTME amounts to 80% (i.e. 320/400 x 100) Her school cert results are: English A1 (=8 marks); Biology C4 (=5 marks); Chemistry B3 (=6 marks); Maths B3 (=6 marks); Physics C4 (=5 marks); Physics C4 (=5 marks); Further Maths B2 (=7marks), and Civic Educ A1 (=8 marks). That gives her 45 points, or 70.3% (i.e. 44/64x100)
So her overall average - as OAU did a combination of 50% mark from JAMB and 50% mark from School Cert - is: (80+70.3)=75.15% (which we rounded up to 75.2%).
With that mark, she ranks number 103 on the list of the students who took Medicine as first Choice.
The total admission quota for Medicine in OAU is 100, and that includes UTME and Direct Entry).
Clearly although Aror did well, her mark was NOT good enough to earn her admission on merit to read Medicine in Ife. Her mark of 75.2% is clearly below our cut-off mark (which was initially 78%, but we later reduced to 77.7%). Between her mark of 75.2% and 77.7%, by the way, there were 56 other candidates who scored higher than her but did not make the cut-off. For example, two people had 77.6%, two other people had 77.5%, four people had 77.4% etc. Having presented the detailed facts about Aror's case, let me also help the many young Nigerians who may be accessing this site with more information on admission as I see a lot of misrepresentation, falsehood, and misunderstanding from the comments that various people had made on this case.
1. Admission into Nigerian Universities are considered on three grounds based on the nationally specified criteria (which I think ought to be reviewed now, by the way): A. Merit =45% (This covers all candidates from the country - and it is automatic admission once you meet the cut-off mark) B. Catchment = 35% (this refers to those in the states specified as catchment area for each University: For OAU, that is Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Osun and Ekiti) C. Educationally disadvantaged states (ELDS)=20% = This refers to all the 19 Northern States, and Ebonyi, Rivers and Bayelsa.
So, someone from Delta such as Aror with 75.2% will not get admission into Medicine in OAU automatically as she is only considered on merit criterion and she does NOT meet the specified cut-off, but someone with the same mark from Kwara (which is in the North Central zone) may get automatic admission with the same mark based on the consideration of ELDS if 75.2% is the specified cut-off for ELDS for Medicine.
2. When a candidate chooses a highly competitive course like Medicine in a top-rated University like OAU, the competition is very intense. Believe it or not, many of the candidates that made our merit mark had an average of six A1s in school cert coupled with very high UTME mark (above 300). So, a candidate must carefully think over his choice of course and university. For example, if Aror had chosen ANY other course as her first choice for OAU, whe would have made the merit mark and gotten automatic admission, and she would have made the merit mark for Medicine on merit for most Nigerian universities too (but NOT OAU unfortunately).
3. Because of the high demand and competition for very limited spaces, the College of Health Sciences does not consider second choices as a general rule. OAU, for example, was only able to offer admission on UTME platform (Merit + Catchment + ELDS) to less than 3% of her applicants for Medicine, and less than 2% of her applicants for Nursing Science this year.
4. For cases like Aror where the candidadte has made a high mark but does not make the cut-off, what the candidate can sometimes do is to come to the University and try and see if he or she can be considered for other courses. A candidadte DOES NOT get considered automatically for a course she has not applied to in JAMB. A candidadte is ONLY automatically considered for the course he or she has applied for with respect to a particular university.
Unfortunately, Aror has left her case too late as all admission lists have been submitted for this year. ... Source:https://www.nairaland.com/3532584/girl-laments-over-inability-secure/4 Cc:mynd44,lalasticlala,fynestboi The mistake is with the summation of her O'level result. Using my own calculations(below), she is even far above the cut off mark. Whichever one we use she is above the merit cut off. If we choose her 8 best subjects from above, English A1(8 marks), Maths B3 (6 marks), Biology C4 (5 marks), Chemistry B3 (6 marks), Physics C4 (5 marks ), Civic Education A1(8 marks), Further Maths B2 (7 marks ), Computer science A1 (8 marks). 8+7+5+6+5+8+7+8=53, That is 53/64=82.8%. Her JAMB UTME is 320/400=80%. (80+82. /2=81.4%. Her aggregate should be 81.4% sir. Looking at her screening report below which she uploaded on Twitter, it is obvious that the computer made a mistake of computing only 7 subjects out of her O level results instead of 8 subjects. And from your calculation above sir, there is a mistake of Physics been repeated twice (even with your calculation above with Physics been repeated twice, her aggregate point should be 79.05 % sir). cc : Seun Lalasticlala Adesegunfat

Disciples of Jesus Are Known by Their Fruit. A little boy went over to a pastor's house, where the pastor was doing some carpentry in his garage. The boy simply stood there and watched him for quite a long time. The preacher wondered why this boy was watching him and was finally so curious that he stopped and said, "Son, are you trying to pick up some pointers on how to build something?" The little boy replied, "No. I am just waiting to hear what a preacher says when he hits his thumb with a hammer." Often, we will find out what we are made of by what comes out of our mouths in both good and bad circumstances. When we have a change in conduct and character in our lives, it is a type of spiritual fruit. Galatians 5:22 says, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control . . . " (NKJV). A Christian's life should be characterized by these things. Are you producing fruit? Or is the opposite true? Instead of love, is there hatred, bitterness, or even prejudice in your life? Instead of joy, is there constant gloom? Instead of peace, is there turmoil? Instead of gentleness, is there a short temper? Instead of faith, is there endless worry? Instead of meekness, is there pride and arrogance? Instead of self-control, are you a victim of your own passions? If so, then either you don't know God at all or a recommitment to Christ would be in order. If you are a Christian, then people should be able to look for—and find—fruit in your life. Why? Because a disciple of Jesus Christ will produce spiritual fruit. Jesus said, " 'My true disciples produce much fruit. This brings great glory to my Father'" (John 15:8 NLT). Jesus also said, "'By their fruits you will know them'" (Matthew 7:20 NKJV). The metaphor of bearing fruit is used quite often in the Bible. In the Parable of the Sower, Jesus spoke of seed that falls on different types of ground, representing different reactions to the truth of the gospel message. The final category He mentioned in Mark 4:20 was good ground: "But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred" (NKJV). In other words, those who have spiritual longevity are those who embrace this truth and produce fruit. The Bible tells us that we should bear fruit worthy of repentance (see Matthew 3: . The Bible gives us different pictures as to what "bearing fruit" means. For example, praising and thanking God is a way of bearing fruit in our lives. Hebrews 13:15 says, "Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name" (NKJV). When you praise God, that is bearing fruit. At one of our church services, I noticed a young woman in the front row who was in a wheelchair. Her legs were gone, and she had only one arm, which was a partial one. As we were worshipping, this young woman lifted what she had of her arm to the Lord. I thought about how this must have pleased God. She didn't have hands to lift, but what she had, she lifted to the Lord. Did she have troubles in her life? Did she have difficulty? Of course she did. But she offered a sacrifice of praise to God. We don't praise God only when we are in the mood. Rather, we praise God because He is worthy of our praise. Our word, "worship," comes from the old English form, worthship. We praise that which is worthy. Therefore, we don't praise God because we feel like it. We praise God because He deserves our praise. When we do this, we are bearing fruit. What we say is also a type of fruit in our lives. Jesus said, "'A good person produces good deeds from a good heart, and an evil person produces evil deeds from an evil heart. Whatever is in your heart determines what you say'" (Luke 6:45 NLT). When you are a true Christian, it will be reflected by what you say. This is bearing fruit as well. Can others identify spiritual fruit in your life? Remember, people are watching you. They are listening to you. I hope that you are pointing them to Jesus. Please pass it on to your friends and family. remain on top for Jesus Christ.Amen |

emusmithy: Topic: Seven Spots Satan Easily Entrap Christian Youths.
The words kept echoing and re-echoing in my ears as I decided to put up this thread: "How art the mighty fallen."
Wow! I've met a few who told me, "I still have time to return back to God. For now, lemmie enjoy my life." While listening to them in awe, the other guy says, "You are taking this Christian thing too far. It's not that serious." Hah! Mo gbe!
I shrug my shoulder in confidence knowing whom I've totally believed in. Today, most of them are lost in addiction and sin and are drowning. They try to still attend church and hide in a Service Unit but can a broken cistern hold water?
Thus saith the Lord, "Return oh youth from where thou has fallen. Sin and Holiness are two parallel lines that can never meet. Compromising to sin and asking for mercy would only succeed in stagnating your spiritual growing and make you inefficient for God to use.
Lemmie go headlong: "7 Spots Satan Easily Entrap Believing Brothers/ Sisters.
1. Lust of the Eyes.
Call it "Sin of the flesh" or whatever, it's a sin and drives the Holy Spirit very far from you. Is it possible to stop this? Yes. Be separated unto God. Until then, God can't really have His way in delivering you from this destructive habit. I'm not against you shining your eyes for a "good body" but be careful. There is more that meet the eyes.
2. Dirty Talking
If you are or aim to go higher in your walk with God, you'll cut yourself from those who make you engage in this. You can't claim to be a friend of the Holy God and still be a friend to the world. That's not possible. I hear you, "My friends talk dirty but I don't join them." Keep deceiving yourself!
3. Pornography/Masturbation
Not every one understands that "self servicing" means just same. It's a fact that this is a household habit among youths, even believers. You come in here and read, "Vaseline crew"/ "cucumbate" and you think it's normal! This is one of the strongest cord the devil has reserved for young folks. But you can be free. Every sickness has a remedy. Be born again, be on fire for God, separate yourself from those friends/materials, do the work of and evangelist. Desire more of God and you'll eventually lose taste for it.
4. Worldly Comparison
I doubt we still know we are pilgrims on earth. You are in the world but NOT OF the world. Look good but don't adopt the world's system of "looking good", if you know what I mean.
5. Bad Friends Most young folks are into substance abuse and all because of friends. Bad friends are like Satan's incarnates orchestrated to send you to hell fire on a Range Rover. Keep away!
6. Premarital Sex/ Co-habitation
I could see someone scrolling and wishing this wasn't included but how? Get into our campuses and see what's happening! Sex is like giving out sweets. Sin is now sold for cheap but that doesn't change God's standard of holiness and eternity. ''The foundation of the Lord stands sure."
7. Time Spent On Our Phones and TV watching.
As okay as it may be, these things drain us spiritually. I believe they are little foxes that eats up the vine. Some things are not evil in themselves but they can bring evil. If you truly have the Holy Spirit, you'll know when you're wearing out as a result of these things. I believe they are what the Bible called "Weights". They hinder us from giving our best to God. They pull us back spiritually.
I don't know whom this message is for but I didn't do it out of presumption but as led. I pray that you become a useful tool in God's hands and not be flabby, baby Christian who is always sinning and asking for mercy. May you scale new heights spiritually. May you know the power of His resurrection. May you exercise authority over demon spirits and powers in the heavenlies because you know your authority as a believer. That's my prayer for everyone reading this. May you not be comfortable with just being a church worker in in your local assembly.
Peace! |

Just try to forget about her and concentrate on your studies, with time the emotional pain will go and you will feel better. And if she is the one God has ordained to be your wife, one way or the other you will get back together and if she is not, the right one ( with even better attributes than the ones you like in her) will come around. BraniacX: sorry, i neither need nor want your help. Guy i said 99% of "Nigerian trained" medical doctors fail the licencing exams. Quote me anytime anyday "99%" and trust me, am well informed. U can go and write the exams lets see if the stats i posted are wrong, maybe you think it is the routine anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and what not you were taught here in Nigeria. Go, write it and pass at 3 attempts and prove me wrong. Are you alright? Stop spewing rubbish. You are obviously oblivious of how Medicine work. Medicine is highly regulated all over the world. Medical students all over the world do basically the same courses, with few peculiarities from country to country. Ordinarily, I wouldn't have replied you. I don't post much on nairaland because of time issue but your lies were so infuriating that it overcame my reluctance to reply and I decided to use the time I was supposed to use to read in replying. I'm telling you this in case you reply my post, it might take many days before I see it and I might not have time to reply. Braniac X, you are a very clinical liar. Hun, hun, you can lie ooo. Nigerian trained doctors pass foreign medical exams so well that in the U.S and U.K for example, Nigerian trained medical doctors form the bulk of foreign doctors working in these countries. I'm not just talking unfounded rumours. I'm talking about published facts and figures. In fact, there was one published some time ago comparing the performance of Doctors from different countries in USMLE. I saved it but unfortunately, I'm not typing with my system I would have attached it. In fact, recently, President Goodluck was decrying the situation. Saying that Nigerian doctors are so many in other countries while we don't have enough doctors at home. Doctors leave Nigeria in droves every year to greener pasture (Better working condition, better facilities, better remuneration and the health workers overthere are contented with doing their work. No unhealthy rivalry with doctors). There is a paucity of doctors in Nigeria yet we can't attract foreign doctors like U.S, U.K, CANADA, NEWZEALAND, AUSTRALIA do. Few weeks ago, David Cameron was saying they need more foreign doctors because U.K is not training enough doctors locally and guess where they will get these doctors from, mostly Nigeria and India. Nigeria & India forms the highest number of doctors from developing countries working in the U.S and U.K. Nigerian trained doctors pass the foreign medical licensing exams(USMLE, PLAB, MCEE, AMCE, NZREX e.t.c) very well. And after training in this harsh environment, when they get to these saner climes, they shine because conditions overthere are very encouraging (good working conditions, latest medical equipments, good doctor-patients ratio, good remuneration & better condition of service generally). The reason rich people travel outside the country is because the medical equipments, facilities and amenities in our hospitals are in a sorry state. Many things that are suppose to help diagnosis and treatment are not in place. The facilities are inadequate and outdated. I think I should stop here, I have much things to tell you but time is of essence, I need to get back to reading. |

Chiamaka01: @understatement
He predicted two things, which are the exam date being on the 21st of October and resumption on the 11th. I didn't agree with the supposed resumption date. My stance on the exam was that it can't be written on one day and i was perfectly correct. So, who should be apologising? @ Chiamaka, even if the resumption date is not 11th November, atleast let's give him the accolade for predicting the examination date correctly (a week before CDL announced it). He said 21st-23rd, not a single day. So Chiamaka, in my opinion, you should be the one apologising. umeadichika: Can chiamaka and co see dat there traces of truth in my word nw. He said ppl are saying 22 to 24. But it is 21 to 23 anyway. @ UMEADICHIKA, I doff my hat for you. I'm here for my younger sister. Pls continue to dish out beneficial info. |

lomaxx: PART 3
Today, when I walked into the Children's Emergency Ward, I dropped my bag in the Nurses' Station, wore my ward coat and headed over the Jessica's bedside. I sighted her mom from afar and she greeted my face with a loud smile. I didn't need to be told. Jessica was doing perfectly. When I was in close range, she welcomed me with a hug. Well, I wasn't the doctor that managed her daughter successfully but she was so happy anyone who attended to her daughter directly or indirectly must have done a great job. I saw the joy of a mother whose child had narrowly escaped the claws of death. I looked down at Jessica sleeping like an angel- peacefully. I was told she had her breakfast that morning. This was indeed a miracle .
I went back to my usual spot to study before the consultant and residents arrive today. While en route, I became convinced that I had indeed chosen a right path. There's nothing as ultimately fulfilling as putting smiles in the faces of people who genuinely need help. And when health is involved, bringing a patient from his/her "death" and giving him/her his life again is the ultimate achievement
I was jolted back to my senses by the senior resident administering orders to the house officers. He was attending to a child who was born yesterday and suddenly had difficulty in breathing. I walked briskly to observe keenly what he was doing.
"Good morning chief," I greeted.
"Good morning chap. List 10 causes of respiratory distress in the newborn"
Well, obviously today was another day to shine.
Moral of the Story: As a medical student, decide to be different. Choose a path of excellence and create decisions to ensure you achieve it. The foundation of excellence is good preparation. Be prepared at all times. Every second is important. Invest in effective time management strategies. You don't know which minute you invest in that would bring you into the spotlight. And hey- aim for the spotlight, stay in the spotlight. Don't be a background chap. Aim to impress
Have an awesome weekend. Dr lomaxx, this is much appreciated. Thanks sir. |
