Not only in UPTH. House officers in all Federal Medical Centres and Teaching Hospitals in Nigeria have not been paid since December last year. This is really dangerous, it is like flying in a plane with an overworked and hungry pilot.

UPDATE.
I got the Visa
Online submission- Dec 2nd
Biometric at Abuja center - Dec 14th
TLS mail for collection - Jan 7th (the 15th working day)
DHL delivered it today- Jan 12th

I made my online application very very simple keeping in mind my cover letter might not be looked at during decision making. So i maximized the use of the 1000 words place. I knew way back when exactly i will be applying for Visa so i took my time to prepare my bank account, the necessary supporting documents, Visa requirements and i read a lot of refusal mails just to know what i should avoid (Apart from the disposable income stuff grin). Most importantly, i did not LIE anywhere in my app.
I appreciate everyone on this thread esp giselle237 who seems to be an OG here and has knowingly or unknowingly contributed to the success stories of thousand of individuals. For those that got refusals, don't be afraid to start all over again and make sure to keep it simple.

@annonymous2, please I sent you a dm. Plab 2 visa enquiry
Health / Re: 58 Nigerian Doctors Stopped At Lagos Airport, Were Promised Millions By UK Firm by Idyllic: 6:36pm On Jul 11, 2020
The doctors could not have attempted to travel unless there was an arrangement with UKVI. They are intellectuals. UKVI granted them visa waiver.

During this COVID period, if you are a doctor from anywhere in the world and you have a job offer in the UK. You can travel to the UK without visa. Your employer will apply for visa waiver on your behalf and UKVI will issue you a visa waiver letter which will allow you entry into the UK.
They started it during this COVID period because UK visa office in Nigeria and many other places are closed because of the pandemic. That's why they put that in place so that doctors who want to travel to UK to resume job can do that.

I guess the problem was that their employer did not carry the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) along.
UK visa office in Nigeria will soon reopen, so they will leave soonest

Post that link here.

Just a bit of education..visa waiver and visa on arrival are not the same thing.

Show me the link about UK visa waiver for Nigerians.

See, I don't have time to argue with you. Of course, I know that visa on arrival is different from visa waiver and I didn't say UK has started visa waiver for Nigerians. I said for doctors. During this COVID period, if you are a doctor from anywhere in the world and you have a job offer in the UK. You can travel to the UK without visa. They started it during this COVID period because UK visa office in Nigeria and many other places are closed because of the pandemic. That's why they put that in place so that doctors who want to travel to UK to resume job can do that. Hopefully, when UK get across to NIS on this issue, it will make headline. Au revoir

This is misleading, there is nothing like visa on arrival system between Nigeria and the UK, they can't board a flight without a valid visa.

Stop saying what you don't know. During this COVID pandemic, UK has started visa waivers for doctors who want to travel to UK to resume work. Go to UKVI website and stop displaying your ignorance with boldness on a public forum

The United States is begging medical professionals all over the world to come to the US to help fight COVID-19 pandemic.

We encourage medical professionals seeking work in the U.S. on a work or exchange visitor visa (H or J), particularly those working on #COVID19 issues, to contact the nearest U.S. Embassy/ Consulate for a visa appointment.

Update on H and J Visas for Medical Professionals

We encourage medical professionals seeking to work in the United States on a work or exchange visitor, particularly those working to treat or mitigate the effects of COVID-19, to reach out to the nearest embassy or consulate to request a visa appointment.

For those foreign medical professionals already in the United States:

J-1 Alien Physicians (medical residents) may consult with their program sponsor, ECFMG, to extend their programs in the United States. Generally, a J-1 program for a foreign medical resident can be extended one year at a time for up to seven years.

Note that the expiration date on a U.S. visa does not determine how long one can be in the United States. The way to confirm one’s required departure date is here: https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/#/home.

Those who need to extend their stay or adjust their visa status must apply with USCIS. Their website is here: https://www.uscis.gov/visit-united-states/extend-your-stay

So he said God has blessed him so much and make him dangerously rich, and that he has never collected bribe from anyone. So it is good to find out the context of stuffs before forming conclusions.

Prolonged strike: LAUTECH students turn farmers, pap vendors
Published July 15, 2017

One of the farms Akanni and his classmates are cultivating .
Ajeigbe at his stall
L-R: Ajani at work, Ajeigbe cooking
Olufemi Atoyebi and Kunle Falayi
As early as 5 am every day , a young man in his mid 20 s , Olufemi Akinyemi, sets out cooking pots in front of one of the private hostels close to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology , Ogbomoso.
Wearing singlet and whistling to himself as the day breaks , he picks and peels a specific quantity of beans in a large bowl of water . He could pass for one of the many other local food vendors , who dot the ancient university town.
But Akinyemi is not like any other food vendor. He is a final year student of Agricultural Economics , who has all but completed his five - year course only for his educational journey to be stalled by a protracted strike that has crippled academic activities at the university .
Now , for Akinyemi, being a university undergraduate is on hold while his daily activities revolve around cooking Koko ( pap ) and akara (bean balls ) which he vends to his increasing number of student customers .
After more than 400 days of strike at LAUTECH , an institution caught in the web of financial responsibility of its two owners – the Oyo and Osun states – the never - say - never spirit of some stranded students has turned the dire situation into a positivity , creating many thriving businesses in the process.
LAUTECH currently needs at least N4 bn to pay accumulated salary and allowance arrears, but its owner states have yet to take a decision on the way forward .
This eco - system of businesses at LAUTECH like that of Akinyemi , has become a survival mechanism for many students who cannot bear to stay idle at home and contending with the boredom , which they say has turned some students to crime .
Like many of his counterparts , Akinyemi , chose to stay within the vicinity of the campus rather than go home to his parents . But then , when it was apparent , surviving more than a year without any academic activities would mean spending his parents ’ money , he delved into the business of providing meals to his colleagues .
He said , “As soon as it became apparent that the strike was not going to end anytime soon, I set up my kitchen . I realised I had to take my life into my hands because it does not seem that the people in position of power care about us .
“ What we eat most times around the campus area is rice and beans . I wanted to offer my fellow students more meal options . Every day now, I wake up around 5 am to clean the beans and go to the market to buy fresh ingredients . ”
“ I am supposed to have finished my national service by now. It makes me so sad that the governors of Osun and Oyo states have decided to hamper our progress .
“ I don ’ t want to travel home anymore because many do not even believe that I am still in the university . For the past three years , I have been stagnant . Even if I had a carry over , I would have made progress beyond where I am now. ”
Ironically , despite majoring in Agricultural Economics , Akinyemi said he intended to face his Koko and Akara after his service year – whenever that may be .
For many students , the strike has put their lives on hold . But
Saturday PUNCH learnt that many students are making the most of the period like Akinyemi.
Twenty - four - year - old Olaide Akanni , a final year student of Agricultural Engineering , has also teamed up with 11 classmates to cultivate part of the wasting expansive land within the university .
As of the time Saturday PUNCH spoke with him , the students have 1 . 5 acres of corn and two acres of cucumber .
Akanni explained that farming became a natural choice for him and his colleagues because apart from the affinity between farming and their field of study , they considered it as fun to make money during the strike .
He said , “ Of course , we would not have been able to do this without the strike . How could we call ourselves students of agriculture and have land at our disposal within the school and still be idle for this long ? That was why we decided that we should cultivate .
“ I should have graduated by now if not for this strike . There is a psychological effect this strike places on students . Our friends are graduating ahead of us in other universities and we don ’ t even know when we would resume let alone know when we would graduate. ”
As the strike becomes prolonged , many students who chose to stay around the campus have had to depend on their parents for financial support the same way they did when the institution was in session .
Akanni said farming was his opportunity to relieve his parents of that financial burden.
“ Sending money to me every time when school is not even in session is not easy . This is my way of making things easier for them.
“ Unfortunately , the strike is doing a lot of students more harm . Some of my classmates can no longer go for national youth service because they would be above 30 years by the time the strike ends . How do you expect such people to cope when most employers ask for fresh graduates who are below 25 years of age ?”
He said many students of the institution are venturing into crimes while a few female counterparts are treading the dangerous waters of prostitution after being idle for too long .
According to him , some of his friends have even lost interest in education having been exposed to many ventures that could bring them money during the period .
But if many female students are venturing into prostitution during the strike , Iyanuoluwa Ojeniran , a 200 Level undergraduate of Transport Management , would have none of that .
Instead , she has decided to put her energy into hair styling .
“ I don ’ t have a choice , ” she said . “ How else would I have been able to cope when we have been on strike since last year ?”
Ojeniran said she is 23 and had been interested in hair styling for a long time .
Like other students who have become overnight businessmen and women in the varsity , the strike presented the perfect opportunity to concretise that interest.
She said , “ I chose hair styling because it is a service many students who have refused to go to their bases need. Like my friends , I came back to school too when I became extremely tired of staying at home.
“ I am not getting any younger . When the strike began , I looked at myself and realised I had no skills . I decided to go and learn hair styling . Now, I have started building a clientele of students and local residents .
“ Currently , I don ’ t have a shop of my own and I am still working with someone . So, my parents send some money to help me cope . My parents are not happy at all about this strike but there is nothing anybody can do . When I gained admission , I thought I was going to graduate in 2018 . I feel almost depressed just thinking about why the state governments are refusing to pay our lecturers and keeping us perpetually at home. ”
On Monday , Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State appealed to striking teaching and non - teaching staff of LAUTECH to end their strike but the workers , who are protesting unpaid salaries and subvention are holding their grounds .
Ajimobi said the workers needed to end the strike and allow the students return to the lecture rooms at the earliest possible date because “ the two owner states of LAUTECH are doing everything within our powers to quickly resolve the challenges associated with the institution . ”
Students like Bello Temitope said the governor’ s words were another appeal that had no action to back it up .
According to the 200 Level Computer Science student , who has now taken up tailoring since the strike started , she would continue to regret ever opting to school at LAUTECH .
She said , “ I am studying a five - year course that was supposed to end in 2019 . There are many other higher institutions in my state that I could have gone to but I opted for LAUTECH . Now , I regret that decision .
“ I decided to learn tailoring when the strike started , because I had no other choice but to engage myself in something . My parents are still doing a lot too because they still send money. There is nothing to do at home; that is why many people are back in school .
“ I don ’ t have a shop of my own yet, but I am working on that . I use someone else ’ s machine for now, while my main customers are fellow students .
“ Unfortunately , I cannot even get my transcript so , going to another school is out of the question because that would mean starting all over again . ”
Perhaps one of the most creative student - traders , whom the strike has produced is Richard Ajeigbe , a 500 Level student of Urban and Regional Planning , who has now taken up cooking and vending leaf - wrapped Moinmoin (bean pudding).
He said the strike made possible an idea that first occurred to him two years ago which he could not bring to life .
Now , he has become an expert vendor of three varieties of his product – egg - spiced, fish - spiced and crayfish - spiced bean pudding – selling for between N50 and N100 .
“ I sell up to 150 pieces of those every day . I started alone but when students started coming around and hanging around my stall, a couple of them later started to help out . They were curious about the whole idea , ” he said .
According to Ajeigbe , who is in his final year , he had hoped that by 2017 , he would be undergoing his service year .
He told Saturday PUNCH that now, all he could think about was making as much as he could as a food vendor .
He said , “ I did my internship at the Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos and had thought that I was going there immediately after my service year to look for a job . But that is a chapter I have put on hold for now .
“ The idea of selling this kind of food first came to mind when I realised that when students come to their hostels to relax , they usually turn to groundnut and garri as the easiest meal. I wanted to give them something affordable which can serve as both a snack and a meal.
“ When the strike is over , my business would continue , I have also put processes in place for the business to continue even if I am out of town . ”
However , what is unclear to Ajeigbe like all his other fellow students is when the strike would actually end .
The issue became a matter that called for the intervention of the Federal Government on Wednesday when the lawmaker representing Oyo North Senatorial District , Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, moved a motion on the floor of the Senate seeking the Federal Government’ s help on the LAUTECH imbroglio.
But the Senate turned down the request , saying that the institution is state - owned .

Education / Re: OAU Admission Saga: Aror Oghenerukewve Got 79.05% not 75.2% by Idyllic: 11:18am On Dec 23, 2016
For those who don't know, this is how OAU IFE calculates students aggregate score and that how is the Prof calculated it, he only made mistakes while adding together the scores giving the girl a score lower than the merit cut off point when in fact her score is far above the cut off.

How to Calculate Screening Result
1. Both the UTME score and your O'level results' grades are
computed to assess you.
2. For the screening, UTME result weighs 50% of your total
score and the remaining 50% from your O'level results.
3. Your best 8 subjects are computed; With A1 = 8, B2 =
7, B3 = 6, C4 = 5, C5 = 4, C6 = 3, and so on.
4. Maximum points from your best 8 O'level subjects is 64
( A1 = 8 X 8 subjects).
5. Your O'level points is then converted to 50% (Assuming
y is your O'level points, then, it will now be calculated
thus: y/64 X 50).
6. For your UTME points, it will be calculated thus: Your
UTME score/400 X 50.
7. Your final merged score, which will be used for
admission now = UTME points (maximum of 50) + O' level
points (maximum of 50) = 100.
Education / Re: OAU Admission Saga: Aror Oghenerukewve Got 79.05% not 75.2% by Idyllic: 10:32am On Dec 23, 2016
michofem:
It is unfortunate that the brilliant girl was not given admission as a result of criteria used by the university. As a matter of fact, some of the universities considered 5 or maximum of 6 relevant o'level subjects to calculate points for students in the recent admission exercise. University of Ibadan for example considered 5 o'level subjects in her recent admission. In her case, I think OAU considered just 6 relevant subjects and not all the subjects she passed at O'level.

OAU used 8 subjects while UI used 5 subjects. OAU and UI don't use the same number of subjects. They calculate their points differently. And for those saying computer studies, Civic education e.t.c are irrelevant to Medicine. Those are the new subjects introduced by FG and they are compulsory. Things have changed from the time we were in Secondary school. You will note the Prof. himself added Civic education while computing her results. The issue is the error that occured while doing the addition, it was a mistake. And I believe it will be corrected if we call Prof 's attention to it. Please let everyone read Prof's post first before commenting and check her credentials which I uploaded, and carefully examine her OAU screening report and you will discover it is all a mistake which can be corrected if we call the attention of the Prof to it. I don't know the girl from adam but I believe we shouldn't let her hardwork go in vain. The Prof is really a very nice person, let's utilise the opportunity that he is on nairaland to call his attention to it, I believe he will do something about it.

Education / Re: OAU Admission Saga: Aror Oghenerukewve Got 79.05% not 75.2% by Idyllic: 10:15am On Dec 23, 2016
Ximenez:
Well said sir, but this was caused by the new admission policy, if you calculate her screening score from morning till evening with the right subjects it won't reach 78%. Even though I'd have preferred if OAU make use of only UTME scores for admission like UNIBEN and some schools, while making the minimum of 5 credits in the relevant Olevel results as an entry requirement, in this case this brilliant girl wouldn't have any problem

Kindly go and read the Prof post, you will see that there was a mathematical error while adding the scores together. Nobody is above mistake. So, stop saying what you don't know her score is more than 78%. You didn't even read the Prof's post before making comments.

Bros, did she enter those eight subject u pple are computing for her. I think she entered 7 ?
you cannot come to naira land and b computing something else.
oau would do their computation on her entered data and if theres a mistake in her entered data den its her fault and not oau...and its based on this provisional admission is offered .
pls do proper research and don't b controlled by ur emotions

They were told to upload there results not enter it. The Prof. himself computed 8 results for her, the mistake was during the "summation ". Pls everyone read the Prof's post before commenting. It will help you to understand. The Prof is a very nice man and I believe he will do something about it that I called his attention to it. I don't even know the girl, I just felt pity for her. And OAU IFE been a university with very high integrity and the Prof being a very nice man. I belive he will do something about it

OAU IFE used 8 subjects for all the candidates. Kindly read the original post. The Prof himself said it. Carefully read the post of the Prof. I think the mistake happened while calculating her points. OAU IFE is a very honest institution.

Education / Re: Girl Laments Over Her Inability To Secure Admission After Scoring 320 In JAMB by Idyllic: 11:50pm On Dec 22, 2016
Adesegunfat:
My name is Adesegun Fatusi, and I am the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, OAU, Ile-Ife. The case of the Aror Oghenerukewve has just been brought to my notice. To throw more light on her case, I will present the detaild fact here.

With a score of 320, her mark from UTME amounts to 80% (i.e. 320/400 x 100)
Her school cert results are: English A1 (=8 marks); Biology C4 (=5 marks); Chemistry B3 (=6 marks); Maths B3 (=6 marks); Physics C4 (=5 marks); Physics C4 (=5 marks); Further Maths B2 (=7marks), and Civic Educ A1 (=8 marks). That gives her 45 points, or 70.3% (i.e. 44/64x100)

So her overall average - as OAU did a combination of 50% mark from JAMB and 50% mark from School Cert - is: (80+70.3)=75.15% (which we rounded up to 75.2%).

With that mark, she ranks number 103 on the list of the students who took Medicine as first Choice.

The total admission quota for Medicine in OAU is 100, and that includes UTME and Direct Entry).

Clearly although Aror did well, her mark was NOT good enough to earn her admission on merit to read Medicine in Ife. Her mark of 75.2% is clearly below our cut-off mark (which was initially 78%, but we later reduced to 77.7%). Between her mark of 75.2% and 77.7%, by the way, there were 56 other candidates who scored higher than her but did not make the cut-off. For example, two people had 77.6%, two other people had 77.5%, four people had 77.4% etc

The mistake is with the summation of her O'level result sir. From what you posted above sir, the summation of her O'level result should be 50/64 not 44/64. Therefore her O'level score should be 78.1%. Since her JAMB is 320/400. That is 40/50=80%. 78.1+80/2=79.05%. Which is above the merit cut off. She should be on merit list sir.
