@Ifez,No, I don't "buy CDs inside holdups/stores" and I run far from all kinds of pirated goods. Anyway, glad you admitted to knowing what you're doing is wrong. Carry-on, if you must. Let your conscience be your judge. Oh, yes, do you have a conscience? ![]() |
The novel, FEDDIE GIRL, featured Funke Akindele (as Jenifa) and her comical storming of campus dressed in pyjamas and red boots. This creditable mention of Funke in a novel written by an American author makes critics wonder if the Nollywood super star is not indeed the best Nigerian actress of this decade. Several other Nollywood super stars including Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jolade, Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha, Rita Dominic, Stephanie Okereke, RMD, Van Vicker, and Ramsey Nouah also featured in this hilarious, nostalgia-inducing novel about a rebellious American teenage girl sent to boarding school in Nigeria to gain a decent education and learn valuable life lessons and reform her ways. Readers love the book and reviewers say it offers a unique reading experience that is witty, fun, and exhilarating. They call it a must-read and rate the author, Nona David, as one who is destined to get to the top. The masterful suspense, action, and sub-plot will curl your toes, keep you reading all night, and leave you thirsting for more. Never has an American author represented the valued culture and way of life of Nigerians like Nona David has done in her novel "Feddie Girl." |
Measuring Time by Helon Habila Everything Good Will Come by Seffi Atta There was this one I read last year about four Naija ladies that immigrated to the US and the fun lives they led. It read like a chick-Lit but I can't remember the name of the novel and the author. It was a good read sha. |
I'm giving Tom Clancy's "Without Remorse" another shot. Then I'll dive into "The Fist of God" by Frederick Forsyth. I paid for these novels so I must read them by force, even if it means applying muscle ![]() |
Pay someone to write the book for you Many well-known authors do the same anyway. It is called 'Ghost-writing.' |
freddie!:You call James Patterson intriguing? Hah! ![]() |
scribesed:You want to know why there are no literary agents and authentic publishers in Nigeria? Check-out this thread and see the reason for yourself: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-188280.0.html |
I HAVE A LAPTOP/HARDISK FULL OF NOVELS - JOHN GRISHAM, MICHAEL CRITCHTON, ROBERT LUDLUM, DANIEL STEELE, ROBIN COOKE, JAMES CLAVEL, DAN BROWN, NORA ROBERTS (if u r her fan then u r in luck because i have all her books) , ALL SORTS OF MAGAZINES, READERS DIGEST, ETC, ETC.You people are the reason that authentic foreign publishers do not like to take on Nigerian authors and publish their works. When you are done down-loading books for free, who will pay the author, publisher and agents for their hard work? Tomorrow now, all of you will come and make noise on NL about how you can't find a publisher for your book. Little wonder we don't have any publishers and literary agents in Nigeria. Una well done o! By the way, Mr. OP, do you have the copyright, or re-distribution right of these novels you are letting people download from your blog/website for free? Hope you know what you're doing is against the law. Just imagine if say na your novel people dey download like dis for free. How you go chop the fruit of your labor? "Do unto others as you will want them to do unto you," na pastor talk am for church! And I'll bet most of you here are Christians and read the Bible. Na like dis una dey take re-brand Naija? Na we dey carry our own hand destroy our opportunity. I don talk my own. |
africhika:Talking about scam agencies, has anyone tried out this 'Whitmore Agency' that is being advertised on this section of NL above this thread? Is it also a scam agency like 'Tate Publishing' and 'WL Writer's agency?' (These two are owned by the same scam people ) |
For a moment there I thought you were going to preach "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki. I don't think there's anything in that book that Naija's don't already have at their finger tips. It goes to say that if you want sound business tips, talk to a Naija man ![]() |
oyb:Oyb, I think I know this guy. Lol! I'm not surprised at his success. |
Owning your own business is favorable; and so also is having a good job. Entrepreneurship is not for everyone. Many have tried and failed, while some have been successful. On the other hand, some people are not team-players and do not function well in a job setting. They prefer to run their own business and make their own decisions. Both are important for different reasons to different people. Owning a business is not beans. Basically, to be a successful entrepreneur you have to be purpose driven, innovative, self-motivated, dedicated, industrious, enduring, and very, very patient. It is not easy, it comes with a lot of risk, there is nothing like monthly salary, you are solely responsible for your business and for yourself, there will be loads of competition, and you may fall many times before you finally stand and break even or make a profit. Not everyone has this kind of discipline and liver. Everything has its own advantages and disadvantages. You just need to figure out where your strengths lie and pursue that path. If you rush into business because your neighbor did likewise, you may just be setting yourself up for failure. |

NOVEL BACK BLURB: Carlotta Ikedi (A.k.a Feddie Girl) has never liked school. Not in California. Not in Oklahoma. When her exasperated parents ship her off to boarding school–in West Africa–Carlotta faces a life, culture, and existence unlike anything she’s ever known. School rules and regulations, rising bell, lights-out, manual labor, inspections, dining time, prefects, punishments, mean bunkmates, and visiting days–it’s all here. But author Nona David takes Carlotta’s story a step further when her adventures lead to unfortunate incidents that threaten to drive her American family into the clutches of infidelity and organized crime. Boarding school doesn’t get any better than this… For those who have experienced the boarding school life, the adventures of Feddie Girl will bring those memories crashing back… For anyone else, get ready to see the world as Feddie Girl. BlueDiva:I have same problem with Tom Clancy, I force myself to slug through the first 100 pages before giving up. Grisham, I tolerate better, but lately his books have been hugely disappointing. Stephen King I don't even bother to read anymore. He was a classic once, but it's like he's not even trying now. Thank God he's decided to retire from writing. |
I'm re-reading "Feddie Girl" by Nona David. I just can't get enough of this great new novel ![]() A must-read, if you ask me.

If you're trying to publish the book in Nigeria, your chances of finding a traditional and honest publisher are very slim. However, if you've written a great novel, then you can try pitching it to literary agencies abroad. There was this link to good literary agencies that someone posted here a while back. If I find it, I will come back and post it here. |
hector:One good way is to contact authors that write on related areas your poems are based on and see if they would be interested in using your poem/s in their works. They will pay you a commensurate royalty as the books are sold. I assume that is what one Debbie Anaga or somebody like that did as her poem (Titled: Lagos) was used as the heading for one of the chapters in the American novel "Feddie Girl." I think it was chapter 2 or 3, the chapter that had to do with Lagos, Nigeria. Another way is to enter contests as someone previously mentioned. However, all these are long shots. |
@ dominique, Maybe Steve Thayer wrote only that one novel. Lol! I do the same with new authors I enjoy. I hope Nona David writes a sequel to "Feddie Girl" or another novel soon. In the meantime, I'm seriously looking out for "The Poker Legend" it appears this one is gonna be a thriller that follows a parallel story arch to the sub-plot in Feddie Girl. Did you read any new books this xmas hols? I started on one of the many Tom Clancy novels I stored up a while ago. I'm also gonna read the latest releases by Orson Scott Card. By the way, have you read the Twilight Saga series? Did you enjoy them? ![]() |
