Hotel accommodation here is expensive oooo. I have been spending 8000cfa per night. Naira is in a very bad state now, hence the reason why things seems expensive around here.

I now understand fully your predicament . My daughter called me today to inform me that STANBIC via email, notified her of changes/new limitations of her naira cards abroad. From tomorrow, the limit on daily/monthly atm withdrawal is $100 (for blue,gold,silver card holders) while monthly web/POS limit is now $300.

That sucks.

Your friend has to provide you his/her utility bills,copy of mortgage/rent on the said accommodation,copy of his passport date page and residence permit alongside the invitation letter.
Booking hotel is safer and less stressful,IMO

I use Stanbic ibtc. a day before I left I went to the bank to inform them, the lady just said it's fine you can use the ATM there.After one month of using the ATM here the acc was suspended because of the series of use of ATM from unfamiliar location I called them and they said it's because I didn't notify them. Then I got them to fix it, ever since my acc has been giving me headache. It rejects payment on POS which I was using before, i don't get to withdraw the monthly $300 equivalent even when I'm using standard bank ATM. I live in Port Elizabeth. The only Nigerians I know here are in school they receive cash through their parents sending from dorm acc.

Too bad. Call or email Stanbic again and explain your predicament to them. Better still have one of your parents visit a branch preferably their head office in Nigeria to have a chat with them.

I don't know anyone in Port Elizabeth. My daughter schools in Cape Town and does not have money issues as she went with GTB, access and stanbic cards plus the occasional naira transfer, rands cash transaction.

From the results thus far with Esan West as the last released results :APC has won 5 Lga's with 142,424 votes while PDP has 4 LGA's with 136,808 votes.

Difference is 5,616 votes and 5 LGA's or more to be announced.

Stanbic gives the best rates anyways. Also did you inform your bank you were travelling BEFORE leaving Naija? Could be a reason for your predicament.

I see no crime from asking from Family, when there's a genuine need but my concern is : you are yet to marry their daughter so there should be some sort of decorum and self respect.

What does she ask for, money to do what? Whatever it is, tell her straight without mincing words that you do not have then watch her reaction afterwards, that should give you an idea as to the kind of person she is.

If your girls family is poor and struggling then the reality is that you will inherit some financial burden one way or the other, you can't escape that.

The international transaction limit on Naira MasterCard is really killing me.

Pay with POS as much as possible. POS allows up to $1500 monthly. ATM withdrawals are however limited to $200 to $400 daily depending on bank.

Also, there are some Nigerians who can give you rands cash and you transfer the naira equivalence to their Nigerian bank account, if you do Internet banking(face to face transaction Adviced!) @ Randburg etc
