Exchange Rate Of Dollar To Naira,7th Monday December 2015 http://www.nairausd.com/2015/12/exchange-rate-of-dollar-to-naira7th.html?m=1 |
By Business The naira fell 1.22 percent against the dollar on the unofficial market on Thursday after nearly half of bureaux de change operators failed to secure dollars at a Central Bank of Nigeria sale due to incomplete documentation, Reuters revealed. The currency was quoted at N246 to N249 against the dollar on the unofficial market, weaker than N243 the previous day. On the official interbank market the naira, which has been pegged against the greenback since February, traded at N197 to a dollar. About 1,599 bureaux de change agents out of 2,818 operators were denied access to the foreign exchange sale on Wednesday, limiting dollar supply, president of Nigeria’s bureau de change association, Aminu Gwadabe, told Reuters. “The bureaux de change operators were denied access to the forex window because of their failure to file documentation backing previous purchases,” said Gwadabe. The central bank last week asked all bureaux de change operators to submit accounts showing their dollar usage at the start of each week before they can access future sales, a move traders say was aimed at curbing speculation. The unofficial market accounts for less than 5 percent of total dollar trades in Nigeria. The bank sells around $30,000 to each operator every week. The Federal Government on Tuesday said that it would be able to monitor the movement of crude oil and gas out of the country through the implementation of the e-Government Master Plan 2020. It said that since crude oil was the country’s major source of revenue, it had re-enforced the implementation of the master plan to stop leakages in the system. The Minister of Communications, Mr. Adebayo Shittu, stated this at an engagement workshop on the e-Government Master Plan 2020 in Abuja. The master plan is envisaged as a tidy roadmap for integrating governance into the post-modern global Information and Communications Technology age for the purpose of matchless efficiency, accountability and transparency. He said, “By 2020 and beyond, the government, at the click of computer buttons, should be able to accurately monitor in real-time the amount of crude oil and gas that is being taken out of Nigeria every day. “By 2020 and beyond, the government should be able to pay pensions electronically to pensioners without their having to stand endlessly in queues. The list goes on and on.” The minister said that before 2014, Nigeria’s ranking in the United Nations e-Government Development Index was dismal. He, however, said that in 2014 there was an insignificant improvement, which, he said, could be adduced to Nigeria’s further recognition of ICT as a positive catalyst to development through the creation of a stand-alone Ministry of Communications. He added, “It is my considered opinion that, as a nation, we can do much better in this ranking, and consequently in our economic development by improving our governance processes through the holistic adoption of e-Government best practices. Helo everyone, information that there is scarcity of Dollar should be ignored because this is an act of selfishness. This is a game plan of those exchange operator to inflate the price of Dollar for their own good not minding the wellbeing of other. There is enough Dollar and other international currencies in circulation unless CBN announce of scarcity because they are the main source of currency exchange. Beside CBN announced saving of money from currency exchange (click here Central Bank Says No plan To Restrict Dollar Supply) Nigerians don’t fall a victim. Follow the rules and enjoy it while it continues. Nigerians be wise.
