A NINTH Russian colonel has been killed in Ukraine as the country’s armed forces say 19,000 of the invaders have now died.

Colonel Alexander Bespalov was given a funeral back in Russia but many soldiers corpses have been left to rot on the battlefield, to the despair of their mourning relatives.

Bespalov was a tank commander and he becomes the latest senior officer Vladimir Putin’s forces have lost in the disastrous invasion.

His death comes after Ukraine announced it had "eliminated" Colonel Denis Kurilo, commander of the 200th motorised rifle brigade, in fierce fighting outside the country's second city Kharkiv.

Bespalov was commander of the 59th Tank Guards Tank Regiment, Russia’s 74.RU news website reports.

No more details were revealed about the circumstances of his death but pictures show him with a large number of medals.

Throughout the war, video has emerged of large numbers of Russian tanks being obliterated by Ukrainian soldiers using missiles supplied by Britain and other countries.

Earlier this week shocking footage showed bodies of Russian soldiers piled up after they were allegedly ambushed in Sumy, northeastern Ukraine.

Many relatives of dead Russian soldiers have yet to see their bodies returned home.

Vadim Kolodiy's mum Tatyana has not received the body of the 19-year-old, who died after he was trapped in his armoured personnel carrier.

“No one cares about them. How many of these children, husbands, are there? How much pain had this all brought?”

Bespalov’s death comes after at least seven of Putin's generals were wiped out in the country.

In comparison, the Soviet Union lost just five generals during ten years of brutal fighting in Afghanistan in the 1980s.

While the British-supplied Starstreak short-range man-portable air-defense system (MANPADS) is still making headlines after destroying a Russian helicopter, the country is reportedly now considering supplying anti-ship missiles and armored vehicles to Ukrainian forces.

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss stated on Thursday that the UK is increasing its military equipment supply to Ukraine, as the war enters ‘a new and difficult phase.’

Truss also anticipated a “more concentrated Russian offensive” in the coming days.


“In the face of Putin’s appalling aggression in Ukraine, the G7 and Nato are stepping up our efforts on sanctions and on weapons,” Truss said at a Nato meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels.

“The UK is now banning all imports of Russian energy, we are sanctioning more banks and we are stepping up our supply of weapons to Ukraine,” she added.

According to recent reports, the United Kingdom is planning to send armored vehicles to Ukraine, after already supplying thousands of missiles, including anti-tank weapons. London is also considering sending Harpoon anti-ship missiles to penetrate Russian defenses and end its blockade of Black Sea ports.


On Wednesday, British junior defense ministers Jeremy Quin and James Heappey met Ukraine’s deputy defense minister Volodymyr Havrylov on Salisbury Plain to discuss what more armaments the UK could provide to Kiev.

The army and Royal Marines displayed a range of weapons and “options for further military support,” including “defensive missile systems and protected mobility vehicles,” according to the Ministry of Defense.

The Army’s ‘Protected Patrol’ fleet’s deadliest vehicle, the Mastiff, which weighs 23 tonnes, is expected to be supplied as part of the equipment. This 6×6 wheel-drive patrol vehicle was engineered to survive high-grade Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) employed by the Taliban in Afghanistan and can carry eight troops and two crew members.

The Ridgeback and the Husky are two more Army vehicles that are being considered for shipment. Military reconnaissance vehicles such as the Jackal could also be dispatched, but these provide less protection.

Ukraine is experiencing severe shortages of military vehicles and fuel, with Russia targeting fuel depots and oil refineries with pinpoint airstrikes.

Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s foreign minister, also attended the Nato talks. When asked what his top priorities were after the conference, he said, “Weapons, weapons, weapons.” Later, he issued a dramatic appeal, virtually reminding Western leaders that it was ‘now or never’ for them to provide Ukraine with what it required.

It is uncertain whether the UK will provide artillery, though there has been discussion that the AS-90 howitzer, which has a range of over 15 miles and would enable Ukraine’s army in dealing with Russian bombardment, could be offered.

Britain’s Efforts To Bolster Ukraine’s Defenses
Following Russia’s initial onslaught on Kyiv, Western countries began promising further military aid, acknowledging that the conflict had entered a new round in which Ukraine is attempting to dissuade Moscow’s forces from progressing in the east while retaining gains achieved in the south.

The Starstreak, supplied by Britain, is already inflicting devastation on Russian forces. Starstreak recently reported shooting down a Russian helicopter on its initial deployment on the Ukrainian battlefield.

Thales in Belfast, which also manufactures the NLAW, produced the Starstreak, a man-portable air-defense system (MANPADS). According to the manufacturer, the missiles are “designed to provide near air defense against conventional aviation threats including fixed-wing fighters and late unmasking helicopter targets.”

Last week, a donor conference hosted by the United Kingdom and attended by more than 35 countries hammered out what each country was willing to provide. The best response to Russia’s artillery, according to Ben Wallace, the defense secretary at the time, was “other long-range artillery.”

Some nations have already made their intentions known. In the last week, the US has pledged $400 million (£300 million) in aid, including APKWS rockets that can be launched from both the air and the ground, as well as Switchblade drones that use the same missiles as the Javelin anti-tank weapon.

The Czech Republic has agreed to supply tens of T-72 Soviet-designed tanks to Ukraine, marking the first time a Nato country has consented to do so. However, it maintains a modest commitment to Kyiv’s war effort.

Japan said on Friday it would ban coal imports from Russia in a broad escalation of sanctions that included expelling eight diplomats, in some of its strongest moves yet to protest what it termed "outrageous" actions against civilians in Ukraine.

Japan joined the United States and European Union nations, which this week announced sweeping sanctions such as bans on importing coal and freezing the assets of banks and individuals, including Russian President Vladimir Putin's daughters.


"Russia has repeatedly violated international humanitarian law by killing civilians and attacking nuclear power plants.

These are unforgivable war crimes," Prime Minister Fumio Kishida told a news conference.

"With decisive measures (against Russia) and support that meets the Ukrainian people's needs, we will make it clear that the international community will never accept Russia's outrage and Japan stands together with Ukraine."


Earlier, in a rare move for Japan, the Foreign Ministry announced it was expelling eight diplomats and trade representatives as part of a comprehensive judgment that included condemnation of Russia's killing of civilians.

"We call on Russian troops to immediately withdraw. Its propaganda that denies killing civilians and says these incidents are faked by the West are completely unacceptable," Foreign Press Secretary Hikariko Ono told a news conference.


The other new sanctions included a ban on importing certain Russian goods and freezing the assets of top state-owned lender Sberbank.

CHANGE ON COAL

The decision on coal marked a change for Japan, the world's third-largest coal importer, which initially was slow to line up with Western nations banning coal imports.

Earlier on Friday, trade minister Koichi Hagiuda said it would reduce imports gradually while looking for alternative suppliers in the wake of sanctions against Russia after its Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine - a move that highlights a potential shift in import-reliant Japan's energy procurement policy.


Russia accounted for 11% of Japan's total coal imports in 2021, according to the government data. Russia was Japan's fifth-biggest supplier of crude and liquefied natural gas (LNG) in 2021.

Japan imports nearly all of the coal it consumes, making it the third-largest importer after India and China, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration data.

"We would need to find alternative suppliers or we would face difficulties securing domestic coal which could lead to power outages and such. We need to avoid such a situation," Hagiuda said.

"We will cooperate with Russian sanctions without inflicting a burden on domestic industry".

Kishida said he would work to reduce dependence on other Russian energy sources, including oil, and will compile measures to cope with rising fuel and other price by the end of April in order to shield the Japanese economy.

"The government will compile comprehensive and emergency measures against surging oil and other prices by the end of April in order to urgently and flexibly respond to their impacts on people’s livelihoods," Kishida said.

Japan will coordinate its moves with the United States and European countries, after the Group of Seven (G7) allies issued a statement pledging additional sanctions on Russia in response to its alleged mass killings of civilians in Ukraine.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow calls a 'special operation", Japan has stepped up sanctions ranging from removing Moscow from international payment network SWIFT, to freezing central bank assets.

The Ghanaian government simply wants everyone to get their forex through the banks as they are the only ones currently authorized by the Central Bank of Ghana to trade in such currencies.

Most of their banks in Ghana do not pay out in Dollars when you receive in dollars. They give Cedi for dollars instead. You receive dollars in your domiciliary Account and whenever you want to cash it, they convert it and pay you in cedis.

They are not outrightly banning the use of forex. This is their way of trying to stabilize their cedi which has been steadily falling against the dollar.

A lot of Ghanaians prefer saving their money in dollars because their currency is almost useless. This their mindset keeps ruining their cedi

Read for sake of understanding. Slovakia did a trade in. They upgraded their weapons system to the modern US-made Patriot missile batteries by giving their older Russian made s-300 to Ukraine.

What you just witnessed is a strategic move by USA not just help Ukraine create a balance in air superiority but to also help upgrade a NATO country's defence weapons just in case there is an escalation.

USA specifically targeted Slovakia because they had Russian air defence missiles which would be easily used by Ukraine because they would require zero training for that.
