PoliticsRe: GEJ- Nissan To Build Cars In Nigeria by igchuka(m): 10:47am On Dec 07, 2013
geeez: And these are the reasons why Nissan is opening an assembly plant in Lagos and not Abuja?

And tell me which of these projects are complete or even started?

The only one that is complete was faulty even before commissioning

Lagos has done more for itself to ensure these investments keep coming in than the FG has

Every project listed do not in anyway critically impact investments

Lagos has rehabilitated several kilometers of federal roads and still counting

Lagos invests more in security than the FG does

These are the things that attract investment

Luke 11: 27-28
27 ¶ And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, "Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!"
28 But He said, "More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"
I hope this helps. God is more interested in you believing the Word of God and obeying it than in Mary related issues.

What amazes me with all this talk about Ngige, is that all his achievements were done when he was in PDP. Did u hear Ngige boast about his achievements in the Senate. If all these APC guys can tell me what Ngige has achieved since he joined ACN and APC, then we would know who is being sentimental. Am surprised that PDP folks could not use this fact in their campaigns

berem: I just watched TVC Channels news and its obvious PDP did everything possible to win this election. The chairman of Anaocha LG Mr Okoli was said to be giving gullible anambrans N1,000 and N2,000 to vote for PDP. He even collected the voter cards of some old women and tampered with them thereby making the cards invalid. What a shame by PDP! No wonder they have high votes in some units.
Pls stop lying. We have no LG chairman in Anambra State, only transitional Chairman appointed by Peter Obi (APGA). So how does PDP come into the matter. Its just a simple case of bad journalism.
And some of you wondering why PDP is doing so well, i will tell you the truth:
(1) The main/richest politicians in Anambra state are PDP members.
(2) PDP still owns a larger part of the political structure of Anambra state and
(3) A major church is backing PDP.

Why should I deduce where you fall into? I believe you are not ashamed of what you are, whatever that is, so please be upfront. Don't assume I will think less of you just because you are a student (if you *are* a student). I however do need to understand the perspective you are likely to being to this debate, because I see so many misconceptions in your posts, and they are lowering the signal-to-noise ratio of your posts. If I understand your perspectives better, I will know which points to zero in on, okay? So please let me know what category of stakeholder you fall into.
Not necessary, say ur mind if you wish to. I am not ashamed of where i am currently. I stayed in an academic environment for a long time, so am conversant with all that stuff. Who is to enforce compliance by lecturers? Is it not ASUU members? Do you expect GEJ to come to every uni and enforce? So as you can see ASUU, is a major player in the infrastructure decay.

There are so many things wrong with your post that I will pass on a proper response - for now - and ask: are you currently a student, or have you already passed through the system? In case you weren't sure from my handle, I am an academic in a federal university. When I have your answer, I would know how best to respond to your future posts.
I believe that you should be able to deduce where i fall into. Can you be re-roofing a house when the foundation is faulty? Any huge investment in unis will not produce fruit, because our foundation (primary and secondary schools) is faulty.
I think its a waste of money on unproductive FG unis when millions of nigerian children are not in school.

prof.femi:
If indeed read my posts, you will find that my anger is that students are kicking ASUU for demanding for the appropriate funding for the FG. I maintain that someone, FG or students, needs to fund education. If the FG funds to the levels ASUU is asking for, there would be no need for increase in fees. However, if ASUU does as the students are asking and calls off now, then fees will almost certainly be increased. How does all this concern what fees I paid as a student?
Tell me the fees you paid and the quality of education you received, then you will be able to know if (1) ASUU is fighting for students or being selfish and (2) Money/Infrastructure is the problem with our universities or Lack of passion/committment for teaching by our Lecturers. I think what ASUU has not been telling nigerians is that investment in education is a long term investment and unis abroad being referred to are over 200yrs old. If private unis with high school fees have not caught up with the likes of oxford, does it not tell you ASUU that manages FG unis will not also go far if the money is given to them. ASUU should be honest. Personally i dont see any difference between ASUU, NITEL AND PHCN workers. They all caused nigerians hardship and became irrelevant with time. ASUU is next on the line.

vivacious vivi: Thank you sir!
Stand your ground on this one. The FG is so selfish and this is evident not just in the deplorable state of our education system but in all aspects of governance. Enough is enough. Do not allow yourselves to be bullied. I am so surprised someone mentioned that what lecturers (I am understanding this to mean faculty staff including professors) remuneration are sufficient! So annoying........Thats why we can never have unity in this country. Doctors go on strike , people start abusing them that they took a Hippocrates oath and blah blah blah. When its a proven fact that a conducive work environment and the right motivational tools make up good hygiene factors that ensure loyalty and giving your all at the workplace.
The problem we have in this country is that we blame govt for every problem we are faced with. I tell you that if most of the lecturers were GEJ, they will do the same or even worse than what he is doing. If you think that you not being paid enough, resign and contest for election. It is not by force for you to teach. There is high unemployment in the country and retirement age of profs was increased to 70 years and ASUU did not see anything wrong with it. God help us
EducationRe: No-work-no-pay Rule May Escalate ASUU Crisis by igchuka(m): 12:05pm On Nov 01, 2013
prof.femi:
Don't misunderstand things. ASUU is primarily fighting for (a) its members (b) the Nigerian tertiary education system. We are not fighting for students in the sense of reducing their fees. We are fighting for students in the sense that the education you're getting is basically worthless, and (hopefully) with the right injection of funds, you are more *likely* to get a proper education. Gedit?
How much did you pay as school fees during ur own time in the uni? And your now expecting others to pay differently. If you did not see anything wrong with paying cheap school fees then, then there is nothing wrong with students being comfortable with the current school fees. As you can see GEJ has been too lenient on ASUU.

Pray, shed more light on this matter, good sir.

As far as I know, the earned allowances for lecturers the union is fighting for will not be paid to the VCs.... They don't lecture anymore, after all.
Can we agree that from your logic, students are then
ASUU members if they get any benefit from this strike (Eg infrastructural investment providing free wifi)?

I take it you'd scrap free primary education, federal government schools, free health care initiatives etc because they do not generate profit?
Smh
FG is being very lenient on ASUU. If students protest for their rights in campus (like for good hostels, hike in school fees: i know a VC that almost chased all students away from the school hostel because they demanded for better service) , you are either threatened, suspended or expelled without fair hearing, whereas FG is negotiating with them for striking for their rights.
Have u ever seen ASUU go on strike against FG because school fees was increased?

FG implementing the said agreement would not stop future ASUU strike. Man is insatiable. They recently asked for retirement age of profs to be raised and it was done, few months later another flimsy strike.
That GEJ agreed to implement an agreement does not mean the next President will do the same. Just like Imo state governor that said he wants to start new universities in the state, Our states currently cannot run universities because, they find it hard to pay minimum wage. i pity the governor that will come after him.
I forsee what happened to NITEL and PHCN, happening to FG universities. Let me ask you, who is to blame for the faliure of NITEL and PHCN?
EducationRe: ASUU Strike: A Lecturer Speaks by igchuka(m):
kaka22: Guy, stop wallowing in ignorance(no offence)... VC is not part of ASUU. Once a lecturer becomes the VC, the lecturer ceases to be part of ASUU as long as he holds the office of VC...Any action that ASUU takes as a body will be as a result of an agreement in ASUU's meeting independently of the VC...
Just listen to yourself carefully. until VCs come out to protect the interest of students which is their right to education, nobody can convince me that VCs are not members of ASUU. I hope you did not forget that benefits accrue to VCs in said agreement that ASUU wants FG to implement.
From a business point of view, it is a waste of resources pumping money in universities, cos they do not generate enough income that can sustain them talkless of profit.
ASUU wants to get paid like their counterparts abroad, yet no patent to show, talkless of viable patents.
ASUU's main issue is character crises.
If a Civil engineering lecturer cannot take his students to an ongoing road construction site in campus and explain that part of the course, no amount of money given by the FG will do that, this applies to other lecturers.
FG does not owe anybody sponsorship of any university.

They are not applying for positions because they were never passionate about teaching in the first place. Passion will sustain you when money does not come as expected.
EducationRe: ASUU Strike: A Lecturer Speaks by igchuka(m): 11:57am On Oct 13, 2013
otokx: @ig.chuka

The VC is now a management staff, he is also now regarded as a political appointee with salary on a different scale.

ASUU strikes are chapter driven, lecturers vote and the majority carries the day, it does not need the support of the VC.
For example, Unizik did not go on strike for many years because the VC at that time pulled the school out of ASUU (through out his tenure there was no strike, up to three years after he left). Unizik grew tremedously as a university during those strikeless period, those who the university can attest to this fact. Unizik is currently on strike because the current VC allowed the school to join ASUU once again, against popular opinion.
I wonder how a VC will not support a cause he will benefit from. It takes a VC who has a vision for the university to do otherwise.

That he became a VC, did not change his membership of ASUU. He can only act neutral on issues between FG and ASUU. I can tell u authoritatively that no university can go on strike without the support of the VC.
Let me say it loud and clear, the VC and Minister of Education were members of ASUU and still are, they is why they cannot protect government's interest.
EducationRe: ASUU Strike: A Lecturer Speaks by igchuka(m):
texazzpete: he is the 'most sincere Lecturer' and his words are the 'simple truth' because he says something you agree with?

'Earned allowance' is money that was agreed up and promised them that has not yet been paid. As Prof.femi says, there are no salary increment components in their present demands. Why would a self-proclaimed 'ASUU member' not know this and say they are 'greedy'?
.

Anyway, all this is immaterial. The big stumbling block in the current Strike negotiation still remains the massive cash Infusion into the Universities that ASUU demands (as agreed in the 2009 agreement). That cash surge isn't going to ASUU (last i checked, the VCs and the Bursars handle the finances) so I see no reason for 'greed' to be put forward as a reason for this impasse.

Just my 2 cents.
As if the VC is not a member of ASUU. Those funds are better spent on secondary and primary schools. How many people attend universities. We just have a good number of Lecturers trying to blame FG for their inability to properly manage what was committed into their hands. Just like in the Bible, some hide their talent instead using it to produce more. If i was the president, i would:-
(1) Make sure the next Minister of Education is not from the University.
(2) Hire good inspectors to generate the funds from ASUU themselves.
(3) Privatise 50% of Federal Government owned institutions.
FG should not own more than 12 Universities, 6 Polytechnics and 6 Colleges of Education.
EducationRe: ASUU Strike: A Lecturer Speaks by igchuka(m):

Thank you very much.
I am very interested in dissecting your post because no one has discussed this issue of recruiting outstanding graduates with me. Can I ask you (and please do be honest): those your friends, were they the best students at graduation (first degree)? If not, where are the best students in their sets?

Having said that, ASUU jobs will not become like SPDC after the strike because there is no salary increment component in it. Apart from the infrastructural issues, its only allowances.

I also have advice for you and your friends. If you want to take lecturing jobs because there is less stress, then you may end up like one of the "bad" lecturers we have been panning. For serious, up-and-doing lecturers, this job is stressful like nothing you can imagine. Personally, what I love about it is the relative freedom to decide what I want to do research-wise, and the chance to mould lives.

Also, the Chinese say "be careful what you wish for...you may get it!" I believe that if ASUU gets the sort of government intervention it seeks, job security will no longer be a given. I am okay with that. In the US, keeping lecturing jobs no be easy thing, unless you work in Podunk Community College...
You are wrong if u think that being the best in class means being a good lecturer. If you dont have the passion for your work, you cant be the best. when the missionaires were in nigeria, they produced great minds with little or no infrastructure. so the emphasis should be on recruiting good and passionate lecturers.

All I knw is dat I am an ASUU member by virtue of my profession as a university don.

But I'm not proud of being one.

Education is not adequately funded I believe, but we are too greedy.

My question is: Is d health sector adequately funded? Are even d Prisons adequately funded? Don't even go to infrastructures: roads, water, etc... And even creation of jobs. Look sir, its a general problem. We can't shut down d country because of ASSU's greed.

Top in our demand now is 'earned allowance'. That's what Fagge emphasises each time.

I submit, we are greedy, despite d fact that I agree that politicians also squander our resources. If we want more money, we can still join politics.
You are the most sincere Lecturer, i have come across in recent times. Thank you for saying the simple truth.

saintneo: EKE NEKWA ONYE UKA ~ PYTHON, CHRISTIAN HERE

I was born and raised in Anambra, I have always known of this tradition in Anambra. These snakes visit home stay with children without harming them. I have never heard of a case where there was injury or death as a result of this snake. In my place in Enugu, there is snake we don't kill as well ~ Awgo Ocha(White Snake) usually small in size.

Somehow, there seems to be an equilibrium between these snakes and their communities. It is the same equilibrium we have with other animals like dogs. Also, these snakes could be endangered species.

I'm against the killing of this snake. Firstly, this snake was sleeping in the children's room. For the snake to be sleeping, it means the snake had being there for longer period without harming anyone. Why didn't the pastor secure his children first before seeking its destruction? Why didn't the pastor show any mercy?
Pls be specific about the place in anambra cos its not so in my place. Dont generalize it

Heavy duty vehicles(60-80 tons) ploughing a road with no drainage yet with a swampy surface; such roads require special attention otherwise it won't be long before it's back to it's dilapidated state if done carelessly. Going forward, it is not far-fetched if we have a class of pple that believe Fashola is outstanding. Of course he is!
