Some bandits have invaded Government Secondary School, Ungwan Sarki in Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State, carting away National Examination Council question papers. Sunday PUNCH gathered that the hoodlums had trailed a NECO supervisor from one of the new generation banks in town into the school. The hooded gunmen, it was further learnt, pounced on the female supervisor and made away with all examination papers meant to be used by the SS3 students, believing it was money. A source said, “When the bandits invaded the school, they ordered the NECO official to surrender the examination papers. Even though the official told the gunmen the content, they still didn’t believe her. “Apparently, the bandits trailed the official from one of the new generation banks, where she went to collect the examination materials, into the school. They demanded the materials be handed over to them, thinking it was money.” There was confusion on Friday, following the attack, as parents stormed the school to withdraw their children for fear of being kidnapped. This comes less than three weeks after the abduction of 121 students of the Bethel Baptist High School along Kaduna-Kachia Highway, Chikun LGA in Kaduna. Even as three of the students were reported to have escaped from the bandits, 118 students were still with the bandits who demanded a N60m ransom for their release. As of the time of filing this report, an official police statement had yet to be made as the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, could not be reached. Meanwhile, there was confusion at Mararaban Jos, in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna as police battled bandits in the area on Friday. Maraban Jos, in the northern axis of Kaduna, is a satellite town where travellers, especially petroleum tanker drivers converge while on transit. The state Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, who confirmed the attack on Saturday, said the hoodlums wanted to take over the armoury of the Police Divisional Headquarters but were resisted by the gallant officers on guard duty. According to Jalige, the bandits came into the town in large numbers, shooting indiscriminately while targeting the armoury of the division. He, however, noted that despite three of its personnel – an Inspector, two Special Constabulary were left with varying degrees of injuries, the bandits were over powered as they(bandits) escaped with bullet wounds. He said the personnel were currently undergoing medical treatment while adding that the command had since launched investigation into the attack. The Police Spokesman said, “On the 23th July, 2021 at 2300hrs there was an attack on Maraban Jos Divisional Police Headquarters where bandits in large number came in three Sharon utility vehicles and in their desperate attempt to override the Personnel on duty shot sporadically in order to gain access into the Divisional amoury but met professional and stiffer resistance from the personnel on duty.’’ “The gun duel between the bandits and the Station Guards lasted for some minutes however; the superior and tactical fire power of the Police forced the bandits to retreat of which some have sustained fatal bullet injuries. https://punchng.com/bandits-attack-kaduna-school-police-armoury-cart-away-neco-papers/?utm_medium |

The president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed, have been sued over a “gag order” stopping journalists and broadcast stations from reporting details of terrorist attacks and victims. Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project and Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development, who filed the lawsuit also joined the National Broadcasting Commission as a defendant. NBC had asked journalists, television, and radio stations in Nigeria to stop “glamourising and giving too many details on the nefarious activities of terrorists and kidnappers” during their daily newspaper reviews. In the suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/725/2021 filed last Friday, SERAP and PTCIJ are seeking, “an order of perpetual injunction restraining the government of President Buhari, the NBC, and Mr Lai Muhammed or any other persons from imposing fines or other sanctions on broadcast stations for carrying out their constitutional duties of reporting details of terrorist attacks and victims during daily newspaper reviews. “An order to compel and direct the NBC and Mr Lai Muhammed to withdraw the directive asking journalists and broadcast stations to stop reporting details on terrorist attacks and victims, as the directive is unlawful and inconsistent with the Nigerian Constitution of 1999 [as amended], and the country’s international human rights obligations. “An order setting aside the directive on reporting of terrorist attacks and victims, for being inconsistent and incompatible with sections 22 and 39 of the Nigerian Constitution, Article 9 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. “Unless the reliefs sought are urgently granted by this Honourable Court, the directive by the NBC and Mr Lai Muhammed would be used to impermissibly restrict Nigerians’ rights to freedom of expression, access to information, media freedom, and victims’ right to justice and effective remedies.” SERAP and PTCIJ argued that the failure by the regime of Buhari to direct the NBC to withdraw its directive on reporting of terrorist attacks and victims violates sections 5[a] and [b], 147 and 148 of the Nigerian Constitution, Code of Conduct for Public Officers [Fifth Schedule Part 1], and Oath of office [Seventh Schedule] of the Constitution. https://punchng.com/buhari-lai-mohammed-sued-over-gag-order-on-insecurity-reportage/?utm_medium |
Another unsolicited advice... Is there anything bad with having both money and experience ? Everyone must not be a slave. |
Can you imagine ? Application without academic qualification. |
They will keep extending it... |
Good news |
Nonsense |
To what end? |
I fully concur. |
Formality.... Medicine after death... Just like someone who have refused to feed you for years, appointing and sending representative to visit you on your hospital sick bed, when you fall ill as a result of malnutrition. |
Nope |
