IbnTimothy: The pepper is more so are the bills

The truth is most Nigerians out here are simply hooked. They are not returning home because of the people's expectations....shame de catch them

ok see bills here for person wey de manage;
1. A decent 2bedroom flats cost averagely about £750/month (just multiply by 250 to convert to naira)
2. Plus council tax £100/month (band B) ..... this na after them don commot income tax and NI for your small pay o
3. Electricity+Gas bill £60 (with managing usage)
4. You cant leave your child at home, so to leave your child with child minder £30/day/child
5. Bus ticket £55/month. If you mistake drive a low cost car £200/month in road tax+insurance+fuel+etc (By the way petrol here is about £1.3/litre)
6. Phone bills £25
7. Internet and line rentals £20
7. Even church offering na in £ ....lol.... and the smallest note na £5
..... pikin de papa house de contribute to bills and rent

If you de 9ja de earn anything more than N50k/month ..... I won't advise you to leave your work for a N300k job in UK cos na the same thing..... cold no go let you leave under bridge

The only advantage for UK here na;
1. No Boko haram
2. Plane no de fall ontop house
3. Light and water dey ..... but you ma no go fit on am (for fear of bills)
4. No body go chop your money, but you no go fit chop anybody money too
5. The prime minister appear confident at least
6. You no go hear car horn
7. No Owambe we go block road
8. Them fit rob you if you waka for mid night very rare
9. You no go de hear english like 'parastatal'
10. Free health for your family and free school for your pikin
etc etc
All those things wey we de bring come pose na for charity shop (bend down select) and sales we buy them
...this is truth from my church mind o

I know Dr wey sell him hospital and everything only to come here de do care work (to dey bath them old mama them) ....im no be as my guy plan am .....no be say the work bad, just that he was doing better for 9ja

Gone are those days when the Wasiu go come abroad come de take am sing.....chai!!! those guys don deceive us ....LWKMD

oya come now .....
O boy, you have spoken the truth.

Beaf: @iHustle

Dude, we need more Itsekiri's to put a word into such topics (esp. in the politics section).
We are getting swamped with bizare expansionist claims (as this thread) by alj haram and his flock.
@Beaf, You are very correct. Thankfully, truth is bigger and more powerful than any expansionist agenda. Below is a picture of the Olu of Warri and some of his chiefs. Who do they dress like?

@PhysicsQED: Here's a link that will clarify your thoughts of Dahomey: http://www.edoworld.net/Benin_Kingdom_Yesterday_and_Tomorrow.html

Here's an excerpt: "The impact and extent of the influence of the Benin Kingdom is exemplified in the renaming of the Republic of Dahomey to the Republic of Benin. Isadahomey was the Benin war general that led the army into the area of Dahomey, and subsequently had the area named after him. So when it became imperative that the people could no longer bear citizenship to a country named after an individual, the ruler of Dahomey Matthew Kereku had to seek the permission of the Oba of Benin for a change in name. Thus Dahomey was transformed into the Republic of Benin, which to the people was an honour to the “citizens of the Great Benin Kingdom”."

CultureRe: Do Edo (Bini) People See Themselves As Yorubas? by iHustle(m): 10:28pm On May 26, 2012
alj harem: Papabrown, Edo Bini history is not free from folktale etc. Ogiso dynasty which I heard is the greatest dynasty is no different from Oduduwa dynanty. If I remember correctly Ogiso are people that fell from the sky.

The descendants of the Ogisos (the Edo Royal family) are still alive. Where is the trace of your Oduduwa?

Also another fallacy is the fact is it ogiso or something that gave birth to Itsekiri, Ijaw, yoruba etc Sorry sir I for one don't believe that.

The Itsekiris are descendants of an Edo prince. That is a historical fact

Lastly Eko means war camp in Bini while in Yoruba it means farmland

Different people with different way of viewing things. Anthony Oladeji Enahoro was Esan

All Obas of bini have yorubiod names

You must have A1 in telling lies!

Pre-Imperial Obas of Benin (1180-1440)
The dates of reigns of these early kings are highly uncertain.[1]

Something must be wrong with you, honestly.

Eweka I (1180–1246) owo mi/we ka (he could not speak and the first word he said at age 7 or 9 which ever one was Owo we ka meaning I can speak now or I understand it now)

Fallacy! He said "Owomika", meaning "my hand caught it". Eweka is a corruption of Owomika, as the Yoruba language was strange to our ancestors.

This was your first king after Ogiso dynasty isn't it right ? Now what does Eweka mean in edo ?

Even Oba Erediauwa aka which we call Oduduwa

I can now confirm that you are a goat. Erediauwa in our language means "One who has come to bring order to the world". Oduduwa is the yoruba corruption of Imadoduwa (an Edo name), which means "I did not miss the path to glory". Prince Ekaladerhan gave himself the name when he arrived at Ife.

How can a larger empire spanning through 3 different countries come from Edo ? It is totally illogical

You need to be prayed and fasted for, seriously. Your case is critical.

Lastly but not the least, All this edo are yoruba or not starting to bore me.

Christianity EtcRe: Christians And Alcohol by iHustle(m): 5:24pm On Jan 07, 2011
The problem myopic people have with alcohol is drunkenness. I have these questions for them:

1. why don't they have a problem with gluttony, oversleeping, overworking, excessive sugar consumption, etc. Aren't they equally bad?
2. Is too much of anything good? why do they single out alcohol?   huh

Now, for those 'Christians' who follow what their 'pastors' tell them: that drinking alcohol is a sin, I bet you don't have a clue who Christ is, and you haven't studied your Bible well enough to escape from the deceit of your 'pastor'.     shocked shocked shocked

I have this for you:

1. Genesis 14:18- Then Melchizedek, the king of Salem and priest of God Most High, brought him(Abram) bread and WINE
2. Psalm 104:15-  WINE to make them glad,
3. Ecclesiastes 5:18-  Even so, I've noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat well, drink a good glass of WINE, and enjoy their work-whatever they do under the sun-for however long God lets them live.
4. Isaiah 25:6- In Jerusalem, the LORD Almighty will spread a wonderful feast for everyone around the world. It will be a delicious feast of good food, with clear, WELL-AGED WINE and choice beef.
5. John 2- Jesus converts water to? WINE,
6. Mark 14:23- And he(Jesus) took a cup of WINE and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them, and they all drank from it. And he said to them, "This is my blood, poured out for many, sealing the covenant between God and his people.
7. Timothy 5:23-  Don't drink only water. You(Timothy) ought to drink a little WINE for the sake of your stomach because you are sick so often.

*Throughout the New Testament you'll hear Jesus using WINE in several parables

What is the definition of WINE?
1.)  alcohol fermented from grapes: an alcoholic drink made by fermenting the juice of grapes

2. ) alcohol fermented from other fruit: an alcoholic drink made by fermenting the juice or an infusion of another fruit, a flower, or a vegetable
dandelion wine

3.)  something stimulating or intoxicating: something that has a stimulating or intoxicating effect resembling that of wine (literary)

I never knew some nairalanders could this be so intelligent. cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

Some of my elder brothers married from my home town and yet their kids can't even exchange greetings in our local dialect.
Is a calamity and i feel so sad whenever i visit them.

how do we address this situation, for instance?
Thanks for the compliment Oisehumen.
It's indeed a calamity. Parents are to be blamed for this problem. If a child cannot speak his/her parents' language(s) it's the parents' fault, not the child's. Parents have to show a positive attitude to our indegenious languages. We should be proud of our heritage. Parents should adopt this formula: speak the local dialect to the children at home, then they go to school and learn English. I have seen a couple practice this with their children, and their children speak Igbo and English fluently.   Another party to this calamity is the concept called "Nigeria". In my opinion, Nigeria is the worst thing that has happened to Nigerians. In this country, we have over 300 ethnic groups, controlled by a central government. Hence, the need for a common language. The colonialists took active steps in destroying our cultural heritage, while venerating theirs.
However, I believe there is a solution. We have to be determined to solve this problem. Individuals, families, clans, local governments, state governments, and the federal government have to make inputs in preventing our cultural heritage from eroding before our very eyes.
The Jews recovered the Hebrew language after over 1500 years of disuse, this feat is hailed as one of the greatest artistic achievement in history. Ours is not as bad as theirs, so I believe we can make it if we are determined enough.

CultureRe: Should Inter-tribal Marriages Be Encouraged? by iHustle(m): 8:41pm On Jun 30, 2010
inter-tribal marriage should be encouraged IF AND ONLY IF there is a guarantee that the children of the couple will be well grounded in the cultures of their parents' tribes. If not it should be discouraged.
In most homes where the parents are from different tribes you will notice that English is the predominant medium of communication. this accelerates the extinction of the languages of both parents. This way our indigenous languages and cultural values die, while English language and culture is embraced as the supreme by the children.
Many of our indigenous languages are on the path of extinction. Let's be guided please. I don't believe in do or die love. If the person you love is from another tribe, and you know within you that when you start a family with that person your children will be lost as far as your culture is concerned, please look for someone in your tribe to marry. Don't tell me you can't find one!
