TV/Movies › Re: Gladiator Vs 300 by iice(f): 4:23pm On Jun 22, 2007
The similarities lie in the underlying themes: Justice, Passion, Freedom, Love, Courage. I love both films very much.
Both are soldiers/warriors (Maximus/Leonidas). They love battles grin grin Romans are renowned for their battle strategy which basically focuses more on systemization, discipline, practical adaptation etc and of course famous for the legions of soldiers. The Spartans again in 300 show the importance of training, use of terrain against enemies and embodiment of courage!

Elysium, which is mentioned in Gladiator means paradise. I guess it is why Maximus had that vision upon his death, moving through the fields, where there is peace and calm thereby giving one the feeling of floating and being weightless because one leaves behind his struggle and hold. And finally into the arms of his beloved - paradise = elysium.

Leonidas death i liken more to a barbarian's death. Like the vikings who believe that you can only make your way into Valhalla (Norse Heaven) when you die in battle. To know that when you die, the Valkyries will come and take you to Valhalla, only gives one the incentive to prove one's skill in battle and if death be the end, to them it was worth it more than almost anything to have died gloriously in battle grin I thought his death was glorious!

Like i said, the underlying themes are what draws all these characters together and makes it interesting. I guess it is why some of us are drawn to Maximus/Leonidas/Wallace. They embodied courage, passion, justice, love (for country) freedom! And i love them all! grin grin

Good things happen unexpectedly. A pretty box may house a venomous snake or a trinket. It depends on the individual, admittedly, tribe/culture/religion etc shape an individual, but people defy stereotypes, so expect the unexpected grin grin

Communicate, communicate, find a way to get your message across, and if she doesn't listen. . .well there's only so much one can do. You can lead a horse to water but you can't force it to drink it. Goodluck, hope things work out for you guys whichever way that goes.

The whole multiple role thing is getting old undecided Coming to america was the best.

Dinozzo, i know what you mean! Eddie Murphy's movies of late have left me cold. Only movie of late in which he gives me the chuckles is the Shrek movies.
I wish he'd go back to those Axel Foley days grin

Am a TV junkie, i watch alot shows and on different levels
Have watched all the shows you mentioned
Seriously Addicted to Heroes
Love Monk - Tony Shalhoub is brilliant!
XY - is interesting somedays (kyle is a cutie) grin
Joan of Arcadia bores me somedays (Just like her friend who has a thing for her) grin

You should try 'House'(if you haven't seen it) - Hugh Laurie is one of those brilliant actors with perfect delivery and comedic timing.
I could go on and on about shows, like i said i watch alot of TV grin

Nairaland General › Re: Who Neva Sin Before Should Throw Da 1st Stone: by iice(f): 5:40am On Jun 21, 2007
Indeed kgoddie, but like i said it is the way of people. Not everyone is nice, compassionate, understanding, sympathetic, etc. I have been over that a long time ago. You cannot change a person if they don't want to change. Some may read what you wrote, reflect and take it in to make a change, others will just ignore it or better yet (or worse) attack your comments. Just have to live with it if the person refuses to understand or better even, ignore the person.
