makavele: Are you sure that CC is an MPPT type ? By my calculations, it is stepping down the voltage to battery level ( and multiplying by charging amperes) to give Power.. Without upping the charging current using the extra voltage . . . Maybe I didn't check it well, will do again . . .
Not bad at all, but in the end, how did you string the panels?
By 7 A.M, I am already seeing about circa 150 Watts, though on a larger array !!
@makavele Please what is the size of your array? |

Thank you for all the selfless support you are providing here...
Please I am about setting up and commencing my DIY solar project. I have
i. a 3KW, 60A mppt CC ii. 4nos PV panels whose capacity [wattage] were not stated but made by afromedia. i assume they about 250w each. I think I was wrong in my assumption as I later realised the panels were under 100w each. iii. 1.4KVA inverter and iv. 2x200AH deep cycle batteries
Kindly advice what size and type of cable I require between the pv panels and the CC. The distance from pv panel to CC is estimated around 12m max. I successfully mounted my pv panels and here are my CC readings today. The first pix at about 7.00am and the second around 11.42am Any useful comments will be appreciated

mcTrinity: what's the inverter voltage system?
and there must be a rating on the panel... Vmp or Imp or something. check well
thanks inverter is 12v. For the pv panels i never agreed too that it had no nameplate until i checked. However, i think they are 250w from some calculation and physical checks.

DMerciful: For my EPsolar, itracer 60A, i use 2 breakers. One breaker which is a double pole breaker of 40A is btw the PV and CC lines. The other breaker of 80A double pole is btw the CC and battery. Here i only protect the positive terminal with one pole while the remaining free pole is use to break the PV input positive. This way, anythime the CC-battery breaker trips, there is no PV input to the CC Excellent stuff. Serves like an electro-mechanical interlock! |

One way to determine a faulty alternator is to try touching the alternator's pulley-head with a metallic object like a long screw driver. It should attract the piece of metal like a magnet.
CAUTION: Be extremely careful as this is a moving part and not a place to fiddle or toy with. Watch someone who is knowledgeable about this technique do it before trying it!!! |

@jeffcheddy 1. I will suggest you either do 2nos salon in two different areas so that you can manage resources in a combined way to maximise profit. 2. Instal a CCTV to monitor the business. There are solutions that allows you monitor from your mobile phone. 3. Consider using a solar powered solution to minimise cost on fuel as this is your major consumable. With a modest sized inverter of 1kva you can power more than 4 or 5 clippers and a few lighting points to ensure you stay in business always. Here are the materials we will need to do this set up.
a. Inverter (850VA-1KVA).......40-45k b. One 200-250w Solar Panel.....40-60k c. One 12V 100AH Deep Cycle Battery....30-40k (You may use two car batteries here but must be connected in parallel) d. 12V Charge Controller....10-15k e. Battery Stand, you may improvise this.
Total: Between 120k and 160k 4. You can sit out a whole weekend with your barbers to understudy patronage and determine a fair commision or daily returns with them. Whatever they make extra becomes thiers. Be flexible and considerate too with caution. 5. Visit existing saqlons around your area and have a chat with them on the business, they will be willing to offer you advice and also recommend a barber for you. They could also assit you in procuremnt and setting up. 6. As part of your opening ceremony, offer free or highly subsidezed cost to your custormers for a limited time. Build this into your ciost of setting up. 7. Try to stand out from the crowd in simple ways such as develop very courteous staff, be professional in dealing with customers, use a simple uniform for your staff, very decent and environment, clean equipment at all times. In short make every potential customer's visit to your salon and experience worth telling! There is an adage that says "Some business does not need so much advertisement, all you need is one satisfied customer, just one!" 8. Identify more opportunities you can use your space or outlet for. This is looking ahead... Challenges with supermarket have already been identified some of them and mor are: 1. Very minimal profit per sale. Profits are always marginal. 2. Highly competitive. 3. Requires huge capital outlay to make any meaningful profit. 4. location is very key, especially accessibility. 5. You need to keep up with new trends, customer choices, expiry dates, damaged goods due to transportation and handling, credit sales, fake or immitation goods, theft, shoplifting, dishonest staff and custormers jst a whole lot of issues to mention! 6. Requires ample space for goods, warehousing [back shop], car park etc. 7. You must be involved in the who;e process either purchasing goods, transportation etc.Else you would be swindled. PS: These are ideas I have to be used later when I am able to raise some capital. |
