You are not going to pay Dangote in Naira?
Look at Dangote repatriating close to $700M to Nigeria from other countries. Click the link below and read.

https://www.thecable.ng/dangote-weve-repatriated-over-687m-through-our-africa-operations/amp

Even if we pay Dangote in dollars to buy refined crude from him, his dollars will remain in Nigeria, is not going somewhere else.

And Dangote refinery is not the only refinery that will be operating next year.

Dangote is a Nigerian, his dollars will remain in Nigeria.

Dangote refinery is not the only refinery that will be operating by this time next year in Nigeria.

SSpeter:
Let me explain to you, those figures you see there are not as real as they appear. Dangote refinery will not solve the country's dollars crises. Nigeria does not import refined petrol with cash what we do is swap and the import you see there is the swap value. It is the same swap we will do with Dangote refinery. Unless Dangote refinery decides not to sell refined petrol to Nigerians and sell abroad then through export proceeds we can have the dollars. Looking at our consumption, and the partial start of the refinery, it is a very long term issue
I still stand my ground.

Dangote refinery, modular refineries and NNPCL refineries will reduce the pressure on the naira

NO.
The Bayelsa people were tired of Dickson and they were not interested in anyone Dickson was fielding out, know that Dickson will still remain in power and indirectly continue his "evil agenda" on Bayelsa people.

Bayelsans as well do not like Sylva coming in.

Lyon now was the "Saint" with his past "good records of kindness" Bayelsans decided without looking back voted massively for Lyon.

Talking about grassroot politics Sylva is more stronger than Lyon. The grassroot support Lyon experienced are the defection of PDP stakeholders to APC. But Bayelsans don't want Sylva.
Is good the people of Bayelsa are rejecting Silva. He once ruled the state, I don't think he has anything tangible he can point at that he did.

The people would have voted massively for him if he performed.

Poverty in South East ?

Yes. Because, watch them this xmas season. 70% of transport companies heading east carry 3 passengers per seat inside 2020 model toyota hiace. Unlike the ultra rich S Westerners who travel in 1992 mazda buses loaded 5 on each seat due to love we have for ourselves.
Poverty that side made them buy a plate of akpu N1500 while we spend a wooping N100 naira for one amala and ponmo N200 making N300.

PoliticsDemocracy Under Attack, Says Imo LP Gubernatorial Candidate, Athan Achonu by Ikaeniyan0(op): 11:06pm On Nov 11, 2023
The Labour Party governorship candidate in Imo State, Senator Athan Achonu, on Saturday, said with the conduct of the election in the state, democracy is under attack in the country.

He decried the alleged high level of electoral manipulations that took place in the state.

He, however, said that the masses were resisting the plot to subvert the will of the people.

Achonu said, “In so many places, it is either the INEC staff refused to sign the result or refuse to upload. You saw what happened here. It took the intervention of security operatives who came here before they started uploading the results. The machine they said could not upload suddenly started uploading.

“Maybe if I wasn’t from this area, it wouldn’t have been possible. There are even places in Aboh Mbaise where they did not have result sheets.”

He added, “We are winning massively on the ground. They have done everything humanly possible to thwart that, but we will not allow that. Imolites will not allow that. I hope INEC is hearing me clearly now. They should declare our results the way they are. They can’t change our results.

“The All Progressives Congress government should be ashamed of themselves. They have lost the election, and they are trying to change the result.

“Democracy is under attack, but we are resisting it. That is why you see all these people here so that we can have proper democracy and good governance. Of course, INEC must cancel everywhere this madness occurred and order a rerun. “

Its been one month since the Israeli-Hamas war and many thought that the Arab world would come out with sanctions against Israel.
But on the other hand, we see Egypt cooperating with Israel. We see Jordan being very quiet. The Arab world do not seem supper interested in this.
On the other hand, we are seeing an increased interest from European and American citizens. We are witnessing more protest in the streets of major cities in Europe and America than in Egypt and Jordan.
What do you think is responsible for this change?
Yes, they are not really interested in helping Hamas because of Hamas connection with Iran.

Nigeria cancels Czech premier's visit, citing government's inability to provide adequate reception

Nigerian government's refusal to host Petr Fiala, his business delegation is linked to Prague's pro-Israel stance on ongoing onslaught on Gaza, reports Czech media

Ahmet Gencturk

Nigeria has canceled the visit of Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala and his business delegation at the eleventh hour, citing its government's inability to provide an adequate reception to them.

''Go home''. Petr Fiala
https://odessa-journal.com/storage/uploads/news/15815/15815.jpg

However, the Czech media reported on Tuesday that the Nigerian government's refusal on Monday, just one day before Fiala and his business delegation visit, is linked to Prague's pro-Israel stance in the UN on the ongoing Israel-Palestine armed conflict.

The Nigerian government has informed them that it is unable to provide a proper reception and program for Fiala and his business delegation.

Based on this, they decided to cancel the visit, Czech government spokesman Vaclav Smolka told journalists in Nairobi, Kenya's capital, where they arrived after visiting Ethiopia, according to Irozhlas news outlet.

The prime minister and his delegation were scheduled to arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday for a two-day official visit.

However, Irozhlas cited diplomatic sources in its report, stating that Nigeria's move may be related to the Czech government's overt pro-Israeli policies, as Israel faces growing global criticism.

It added that the Czech Republic, along with the US and Israel, was one of 14 countries that voted against the UN General Assembly resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza on Oct. 27.

Israel launched air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7.

At least 10,328 Palestinians, including 4,237 children and 2,719 women, have been killed. The Israeli death toll, meanwhile, is nearly 1,600, according to official figures.

Besides the large number of casualties and massive displacements, basic supplies are running low for Gaza’s 2.3 million residents due to the Israeli siege.

PoliticsKeyamo Cautions NLC, TUC Against Politicising Protest by Ikaeniyan0(op): 8:01pm On Nov 09, 2023
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, on Thursday, urged the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress against politicising the alleged maltreatment of the NLC President, Joe Ajeroh saying politics may destroy the labour movement in the country.

The Minister maintained that the Aviation Ministry was not involved in the alleged maltreatment of the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajeroh, by security agents.

Keyamo, who spoke at the opening of a retreat for the Honourable Minister, Permanent Secretary, Directors and Head of Agencies of the Aviation Ministry, held in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State said that the “aviation sector should not be involved in the protest.”

Keyamo’s call was coming amidst a protest staged at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja in the early hours of Thursday.

Keyamo said, “Their retaliation is aviation. So, please, I want to tell them to leave us alone. Leave aviation alone. You cannot target Aviation in trying to address your grievances.”

He noted that the protest affected foreigners coming into the country as well as citizens going about their normal businesses as, according to him, the protesters disrupted aviation activities by blocking the access road to the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport.

Keyamo however condemned the alleged maltreatment of the NLC National President, Joe Ajeroh maintaining that nobody should be manhandled in the country.

“I condemn what happened to my friend, Ajeroh. Nobody should get fisticuffs. But in the same breath, they should not find themselves in the realm of politics,” he said.

PoliticsAfenifere Disowns Statement Faulting Tinubu’s Supreme Court Victory by Ikaeniyan0(op): 7:48pm On Nov 09, 2023
The leadership of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has distanced itself from a communiqué released by the group’s General Secretary, Chief Sola Ebiseni, where the organisation was said to have faulted the Supreme Court judgment upholding President Bola Tinubu’s election.

According to a statement on Thursday by the group’s National Organising Secretary, Otunba Kole Omololu, the group’s leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, and other leaders were not aware of Ebiseni’s press release and did not authorise it.

The statement read, “The world will recall that the Leader of Afenifere himself, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, had congratulated the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces on his election into office, and also expressed solidarity over his victory at the apex court.

“It is then clearly underhanded and mischievous to have such preposterous attack on the judiciary by intemperate elements within the fold, fanning the embers of national discords with political motives, using the name of Afenifere.”

The statement noted that, as the acting leader of the group, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, in the natural and traditional order of Afenifere, is expected to defer to his leader, who appointed him, Fasoranti, without reservations.

“To do otherwise is to tread such ignoble path in national discourse as this unfortunate release reveals,” the statement added.

The PUNCH reports that the communique being disowned by the group was issued by Ebiseni and made available to journalists in Akure, Ondo State capital, on Wednesday at the end of a meeting of the group held at Adebanjo’s residence in Ogbo Ijebu, Ogun State.

The communique partly read, “Nigeria is a federation of entrenched ethnic nationalities which has failed to evolve into a nation because of the deviation from the foundational principles of federalism.

“Except Nigeria is ruled based on true federalism which guarantees inclusiveness, fairness, egalitarianism, justice and a sense of belonging to all its constituent groups, it will remain a mere geographical expression with no sense of common nationalism and patriotism.

“In this connection, the only way forward is to change the military constitution now and re-enact a constitution in line with the foundational federal principles.

“Except this is done now and quickly, all the errors that occasioned the type of electoral shenanigans witnessed during the 2023 general elections and the technical judgement by the Supreme Court legitimising the same will fester ad infitum.”

BusinessMTN Nigeria Clarifies Issues Around $47.8 Million Tax Judgment by Ikaeniyan0(op): 5:39pm On Nov 09, 2023
MTN Nigeria has released details of its ongoing legal battle with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and why it is challenging the recent decision of the Tax Appeal Tribunal that it should pay the sum of $47.8 million to the revenue agency.

The company in a statement titled, ‘MTN’s Tax Matter: Unveiling the Issues’ said it filed an appeal at the Tax Appeal Tribunal to challenge the October 20, 2023 judgment.

MTN Nigeria submitted five crucial issues to the Tribunal for determination. The first matter seeks to establish whether, considering the clear and unequivocal provisions of the VAT Act before the amendment by the Finance Acts, the provision of software, licensing, and upgrades qualifies as a taxable supply of goods and services.

The second issue in question, according to the filing, is whether the provision/lease of bandwidth capacities through transponders located in the satellite qualifies as a taxable supply of goods and services.

In addition, MTN is seeking clarity on whether, in the absence of the production of any false or untrue document or statement by MTN, the FIRS has the authority to conduct a tax investigation beyond the 5-year restriction.

Another aspect involves determining whether the training provided by offshore facilitators outside of Nigeria is liable to VAT in Nigeria.

The final point for consideration is whether the FIRS acted in error when it calculated and imposed interest and penalty on MTN’s alleged non-remittance of VAT liabilities, considering that the said liabilities have not become final and conclusive.

How it started
Narrating the genesis of the case, MTN said:

“The matter began on September 4, 2018, when the then Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami unilaterally imposed $2 billion in back taxes on MTN Nigeria, resulting in a legal action by MTN Nigeria against the AGF. In 2020, the AGF referred the matter to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and Nigeria Customs, withdrawing the letter of demand for the aforementioned $2 billion issued in 2018.
“A series of engagements between FIRS and MTN led to the amount being revised to $93.6 million, comprising $72.6 million as principal liabilities and $21 million for penalties and interest. MTN’s objection to this amount resulted in an upward review to $135.7 million, comprising a principal tax liability of $47.8 million, while interest and penalty amounted to $87.9 million.”
The recent ruling of the Tax Appeal Tribunal appears to not exactly favour both parties in the matter. While it absolved MTN from paying the sum of $21,039,807 as penalties and interest on the principal sum, FIRS would wish to receive the sum.

It is believed that the case holds the potential to improve Nigeria’s tax jurisprudence, strengthen the country’s finance system, and ultimately improve confidence in the business community.
