aminauiade: The Labour Party (LP) statutory National Executive Committee (NEC) has elected Senator Usman Nenadi as the Interim National Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as the Interim National Secretary, among others, as members of the party’s interim working committee.
Nenadi was elected on Friday during the party’s NEC meeting in Abuja.
The interim working committee is expected to oversee all party activities till the party’s convention, when elections for a new NEC will be conducted
Other resolutions reached during the meeting include the approval of the schedule for the conduct of ward congresses, local government area congresses, state congresses, Zonal congresses, and the National Convention of the Labour Party.
The National Secretariat of the party is mandated to publish the guidelines and timelines to ensure transparent and democratic elections at all levels.
Friday’s meeting was attended by the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State ( the party’s only governor), among others.
During the event, Ajaero described the Labour Party as a party for the common man. He urged LP members not to be discouraged by some of the challenges plaguing the party
“Anyone who is not with us and is not working with the Labour force and claims to be the party’s chairman is a daydreamer. When the day of reckoning comes, we will say we don’t know you,” the Abia governor told the gathering.
He also reassured members of the party, saying “The council which formed the party is very much with them and we have not abandoned the party. I want us to be focused, not distracted.
There is a need to restructure this party, rebrand it, because that is the only way this party can work.”
Meanwhile, Otti told members to do whatever it takes to make the party work.
He explained that the statutory NEC meeting is coming at the instance of the Supreme Court’s judgement, which affirmed Nenadi as the national chairperson of the party.
The governor also advised the Julius Abure-led faction to be humble enough and obey the apex court judgment.
As law-abiding people, we felt we should obey the Supreme Court judgement, and what we are here to do is to begin a structured process by formalizing some key committees like the interim national working committee, which will oversee all party activities till the party’s convention, when elections for a new NEC will be conducted.”
He also appreciated the NLC for forming the party, but asserts that: “Now the party is bigger than the NLC”.
Furthermore, he urged members of the party to be humble and work in unity for the greater good of the Labour Party.
LifestyleTonite: The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos chapter, has faulted the renaming of some streets in Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State.
MyNigeria noticed that most of the Igbo-sounding names were changed to Yoruba names. The total names changed is 24, according to a memo distributed.
With the changes, Imo Eze Street is now Layiwola Oluwa Street, Ezie Street is now Morilat Arogundade, Eze Street is now Erelu Mojisola Street, among others.
Other streets bearing English names were also changed, including George Street which has now become Daddy Showkey Street—in honour of the famous Ajegunle-born musician— and Queens Street now Kola Balogun Street. Other renamed roads include Kirikiri Road, now Moruf Oyekunle Road, and Uzoh Street, now Kalejaiye Adeboye Street.
Ohanaeze, through its state President, Solomon Ogbonna, told MyNigeria that the change, which has also been implemented by Google Maps, reeks of inferiority complex.
He said, "I think it is inferiority complex. I don't think any street will have a name without the owner of the name having property there. It is not about ethnic fight but inferiority complex."
He went on to advise the authorities in Lagos not to stop at that but to go ahead and end the intermarriage between Yoruba and Igbo people.
"If they think it is important to change the names of streets bearing Igbo names, then they should try to disorganise the intermarriage between us, that is, Yoruba and Igbo," he said.
According to him, if there's an Igbo man already married to a Yoruba woman, the authorities should take back the wife and give the Igbo man an Igbo wife.
Racoon: All these acts are ocastrated by the warped tribalism and ethno-religio-regional bigotry that he as characterized this present government.
Ethnic profiling because of unbridled hatred has been the number one trait. So sad! Too bad! There are halls, streets, monuments named after prominent non-Igbo national citizens in the SE.
Did you say all this when Abakaliki street was changed in Anambra state?
Metrix147: Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has just arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja for the continuation of his trial, ABN TV reports.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUnwdnNabWY Kanu’s arrival this morning, Friday, July 18, 2025, comes amid tight security and limited courtroom access, as proceedings resume under the watch of presiding judge, Hon. Justice James K. Omotosho.
Earlier, ABN TV reported that the court had approved only ten individuals from the defendant’s side to be present in the courtroom for today’s session. The approved list includes eight lawyers—among them several Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs)—as well as two close associates: Hon. Obi Aguocha and Prince Emmanuel Kanu.
The restriction has been criticized by observers who argue it undermines public transparency in such a high-profile trial.
Today’s hearing is expected to focus on the no-case submission filed by Kanu’s legal team, following the Federal Government’s formal closure of its case during the last sitting.
I'm surprise the senator is claiming 2000 hectares is small. What's it actually they want to use the whole11,000 hectares for? 2000 hectares is more than enough to do anything they want to do.
DMerciful: So you expect northerners to ignore 3.5yrs of terrible performance but vote for him because he honored a human that had expired? Really? That would be the worst form of self hate from northerners
When did you become the spokesperson of northerners?
jaxxy: A government is not constituted just because u can attack and takeover parts of the country or its capital. The actual government is still in Yemen and working.
Asad left Syria and isn't attending to any official matters concerning Syria.
Hope u understand the difference and situation.
And yes Iran is doing something very wrong and dangerous.
There is absolutely no difference between what happened in Syria and Yemen.
You can't be condemning what's happening in Yemen why praising what's happening in Syria.
Botragelad: For those who don’t know: Yemen has an actual government, but it’s under attack by the Houthis, a violent Islamist group that’s seized control of parts of the country in their brutal campaign.
If we're to go by this, that means Assad is still the actual government in Syria. A violent islamist group only took over from him through the gun.
It's okay if Turkey and the West arm a group, but it becomes a problem when a country like Iran also arm a group
if prices of goods and services shot up, how then is the economy doing fine?
who devalued the naira that made prices of goods and services to shoot up?
So if the economy is not doing fine because the prices of goods and services is shooting up, is there ever a time the economy is doing fine between IBB regime and Buhari administration?
2. if prices of goods and services shot up, how then is the economy doing fine?
3. who devalued the naira that made prices of goods and services to shoot up?
Answer the question I asked you
When is the Nigerian economy ever doing fine? Under IBB, Shonekan, Abacha and Abdulsalam the price of goods and services were shooting up
Under OBJ, Yardua, GEJ, Buhari price was increasing
So when actually is the economy doing fine? Because according to you, price of goods and services are increasing so that means the economy is doing badly
Blitzking: You are very correct in car owners and generator users feeling the impact but they still feel the price increase in other areas ..building material are still up and landlords are already giving their tenants heads up on price increment when their current rent expires.
The price of building materials is falling. If you live in Lagos state, you can take a stroll to Eko, so you will confirm yourself from the Igbos selling them. Landlords are not just reducing price the same reason the okada riders are not reducing price.
The price of goods and services are falling at a slow pace. It's better it keeps on falling instead of rising
if prices of goods and services shot up, how then is the economy doing fine?
who devalued the naira that made prices of goods and services to shoot up?
If the economy is not doing fine because prices of goods and services are rising, my question to you right now is that, is there ever a government the economy is doing fine in Nigeria? Because prices of goods and services has been shooting up under every administration since 1999.
If you believe the economy is not doing fine now, then there's no point in time it has been doing fine in the history of Nigeria.
Blitzking: Nigerians are not feeling decrease of inflation...everyday we hear fuel price is decreasing while the bike men are still charging 500naira for wat they used to collect 300naira..bus drivers same...traders same..so how is inflation decreasing.
The price of fuel will need to decrease the more before transport fare will reduce from what it is now. Bike riders are still charging what they were charging when the price was 1000/litre.
Every Nigerian knows, see and can confirm the price of fuel is falling since the FG totally stopped paying subsidy, we're not just hearing it.
If you have a car, you won't say the bolded. Car owners are feeling the impact.
Racoon: The judicial chaos, impunity, anarchy and lawlessness instituted under this APC govt and every institution of govt under it is really an eyesores. Courts judgements are subject to ratification and approval by the govt
The court told Natasha to apologize in two dailies and on her Facebook page, has she done so?
