A group of Higher National Diploma holders in the public service, yesterday, dragged the federal government before the National Industrial Court, NIC, sitting in Abuja, asking it to declare that they are entitled to the same remunerations and progression in their work places as their counterparts with first degree without any discrimination whatsoever.
The plaintiffs are further praying the court for an order directing the defendants to implement the directives of the government white paper on the presidential committee on the consolidation of emoluments in the public sector.
Aside the Attorney General of the Federation, others cited as defendants in the suit were the National Council on Establishment and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
Meantime, the President of the NIC, Justice Babatunde Adejumo yesterday adjourned the suit to September 18 for hearing.

Man Bags 14 Years Jail Term Over N220,000
A Federal High Court in Kano on Wednesday, 2 July, 2014, sentenced a young man, named Stephen Onyekachi, to 14 years of imprisonment.
reports that the accused was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on 6 June, 2013, on a 3-count charge of allegedly obtaining the sum of N220,000 from one Auwal Shehu Garba under the pretext that he had a solar indicator for sale.
It was gathered that Onyekachi approached the complainant through a phone call and offered him a business deal after which Garba allegedly made a payment of N200,000 and also sent him MTN recharge card worth N20,000.
The judge also ordered Onyekachi to pay the sum of N220,000 in restitution to the victim.
One of the counts read,“that you Stephen Onyekachi (Alias Steven Onyero) and others (now at large) on or about 20th January, 2012 at Kano, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court with intent to defraud obtained from one Auwal Shehu Garba, the sum of N200, 000 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira Only) via Stephen Onyekachi’s account domiciled at United Bank For Africa account number 2047444748, thereby committed an offence contrary to section 8(b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under section 1(3) of the same Act”.
Financial fraud cases are not new in Nigeria.
Less than a month ago, no fewer than 100 gullible land buyers were defrauded by a fake land speculator, Muyiwa Akinwande in Lagos, western Nigeria.
The 36-year-old man was detained by the police at Ikotun Division after he illegally obtained money from at least 100 people by deception.
It was reported that in order to prove that he was a genuine land speculator, Akinwande showed fake documents with the name of a registered company Future Gate Resources.
According to the victims, once they arranged to meet at the appointed time at the designated location in Ogun State where the seller presented them some pieces of land to them, the actual land owner appeared.
The matter was reported to the police who arrested Akinwande and charged him to court

Latest reports coming in from Abuja, the Federal Capital Terrotiry, indicate that the President of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Aminu Maigari, who was arrested in Abuja early hours of Friday, 4 July, 2014 by the Nigeria State Security Services (SSS), has been released.
It was gathered that no reason was given for his arrest.
Earlier reports had stated that Maigari was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja by security operatives after he returned to the country with the Super Eagles.
Analysts are already saying the arrest of the football boss may be connected to the sacking of the entire board of the NFF by a court in Jos, Plateau State on Monday, 30 June, 2014.
According to the court order, Maigari and his board members were restrained from acting as administrators of the NFF.
The suit was filed by former Nigeria Premier League chairman Rumson Baribote, who requested the court to restrain Maigari and all the committee and congress of the NFF from managing the affairs of football matters in Nigeria.
Hon. Justice P. L Lot of the Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos granted the Order of Interlocutory Injunction restraining the president of the NFF, the executive committee members as well as the NFF Congress from running affairs of Nigerian football pending the determination of the Motion on Notice before the court.
Gongnews.net had reported that Maigari have queries to answer with the security agencies one of which was the issue of his alleged fake grade III Teachers certificate with which he contested the office of NFF president.
As at the time of compiling this report, the NFF has not released any statement on the arrest of Maigari neither deny the news of the fake certificate scandal charged against him.
Meanwhile, Channels TV reports that coach Stephen Keshi led the Eagles into the country in the early hours of today.
The Nigerian national football team were ousted from the Mundial after they were defeated 0-2 by France in the round of 16 of the football showpiece.
In an interview with sports writers at the airport, coach Keshi said the team would have loved to progress beyond the round of 16 but expressed gratitude to God for the outing in Brazil.
When asked on media reports of his resignation immediately after the match against France, Keshi was reported to have said that he had not resigned.
It could be recalled that it was reported on Thursday, 3 July, 2014, that Keshi had been offered a new contract by the Nigerian football governing body .
The report also added that Keshi had not said whether he would accept the offer or not.

Pandemonium as BRT bus knocks down soldier in Lagoson July 04, 2014 at 11:54 am in News.
Soldiers Friday morning went on rampage at the Palmgroove area on Ikorodu Road, Lagos after a BRT bus allegedly knocked down a soldier on a motorcycle.
Vanguard cannot ascertain if the soldier died in the accident.
There was pandemonium as soldiers took to the streets setting ablaze BRT buses, beating up drivers and conductors while other BRT bus operators parked their vehicles and ran for dear life.
Thus, the operations of the buses have been grounded as commuters are stranded at major bus stops along Ikorodu Road with others trekking to their destinations.
