Success is not dependent on the amount of formal education received but we have so much conditioned our mind to the fact that salary is the answer to the future we deserve |

nyben4eva: Some truths are better left unsaid. The Op only needed reassurance from nairalanders that he's going to make it and not someone reminding him of how unintelligent he is. I never said he's unintelligent |
Education › Re: I Regret Bitterly Going To University. by ikbnice(m): 11:26pm On Jun 03, 2017 |
doskie: Thank you very much. especially for the fact that you stated it took you a while to realise it. the op is obviously experiencing a fear and concern common to analytical minds who read and observe everyday happenings in the real world as different from how he imagined or loves it to be. the next stage is adaptation, he will, for the fact that he has real fears, make prudent decisions and maximize opportunities as they present themselves. now that he knows education in nigeria is almost totally unconnected to success, though with difficulty, he will explore other aspects of life that one with false assumptions and over confidence in his degree will ignore. My fear is that he lays so much emphasis on education as a determinant of success that he may not explore other opportunities. He relies so much on his excellent cognitive ability to secure him the future he deserves. If he isn't oriented right now, he may desire to seek softworks such as cyber crimes just to achieve that future of his dream. He needs to be very careful. |

nyben4eva: You're such a mean guy!I wouldn't tell my fellow man how unintelligent he sounds in such a blunt manner.Sometimes, our written or spoken English doesn't really classify us as intelligent or unintelligent people. Call it blunt, you know it's the truth. He laid a lot of emphasis on his brilliancy but he couldn't live up to expectation. BTW, brilliancy and intelligence are not the same, though closely related. I never said he isn't intelligent neither did I say he isn't brilliant. I just said he isn't as brilliant as he claimed. |

If ten mugus pay you, that's 10*2000= N20, 000 with unlimited curses when they realized they've been scammed. Bro, find better work do joor. If you serve as a labourer at a construction site earning N2000 daily, assuming you work four times weekly, that's a legitimate N8, 000 and N32, 000 monthly. U gonna be working honorably and u gonna be earning without curse. Legitimate work pays. |

doskie: sir.. what do you do for a living and if you are successful in your endeavors, what role did university education play? kindly say what you read, and when you gradated. thanks please dont insult me.... i know why i am asking. Sir, being successful doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the amount of formal education received - it took me a while to realize this though. It is the optimistic mindset coupled with strive in the right direction that bring success. |

Achiles: I understand Op quite well. personally I can relate to what he is trying to say. Back then when I was graduating, I knew the economy was quite OK for one to hit the street of Corporate Lagos Island to look for job. I could not wait. I looked forward to it. That was just back in 2007. True to God, within one month of finishing service, I had offer from Chevron, 6 Banks, wrote KPMC test and had offer from my department to stay back and lecture. But today I just look at the young ones coming through our universities, no opportunity, no prospect and all that. The political elite class has messed up the economy. You are right to feel that way. My brother, like I did for my younger one who is at Lead City, get your Parents to enrol you in one skill acquisition centre. You can learn upper class interior decoration, fashion design or whatever. The idea is that you have something doing after school. Don't worry, you will be fine and you find your degree useful one day. Best of luck. The future looks bleak to young graduates and undergraduates nowadays. But instead of sitting down and complaining bitterly about it, they should look at the positive aspect of it they can tap into. I was once like the OP. I always blamed God for making me a Nigerian. |
