Hello guys... I just finished serving and I'll like to go into rice planting. I'm currently in Jigawa state.
For an acre will 200k be enough?? Plus would you mind if you give me the break down of gradual expenditures like
Estimated cost of fertilizer, seed, chemicals, labor, irrigation and co... Thanks... I need to write a proposal to convince the person that wants to give me a loan
Rough estimation for what your are to spend on 1 hectare are as follows

Rice seed: 150kg..... 45,000
Fertilizer(npk) 3 bags ...... 16,500
Urea...... 2 bags........... 18,000
Non selective herbicide. 1&half carton.. 20,000
Pesticide......... 6000
Selective herbicide ( optional) .. 7000
Land lease........... 25,000
Tractorization ....... 16,000
Labour huhhuh
Transportationhuh?
Harvesting and threshing..... 40,000

I didn't add labour and transportation because it dosent have a fixed amount and sometime you can save money by doing most or some of the farm work yourself.

Another white elephant project. The problem is not processing rice , it's with the planting and funding for farmers. Let's watch and see how this ends, I hope they get enough paddy to sustain the daily output capacity of this mill.

My first 2.5 ha will be 1 month on the 12th of August.. Application of selective herbicide, pesticide and fertilizer loading.

The pesticide will be applied first and after 3 days, the selective herbicide will follow suite and then fertilizer after one week. Everything is going as planned just that rain have refused to fall in anambra state for some days ....

average yield in Nigeria is 3 tonnes per hectare.
with excellent practice 5 tonnes.
if you get anything below 2tonnes it would mean your agricultural practices is poor.
Having a yeild of 3 tons per hectare is already a big loss. The least yeild should be 4 ton/hectare, I have seen 7 ton per hectare with good agricultural practice.

quote author=Phoenix20 post=87562364]Please, who can share with me a detailed cost analysis on planting and cultivating rice on a hectare of land. I plan to venture into rice farming on May/June with just 1hectare to gain experience first. I also have some questions.
1.What are the steps involved. I've already cleared and stumped the land.
2.What is the average price of paddy per 100kg bag
3.Is there high demand
4.Can I realize 350k profit assuming 5 ton yield per hectare (5 tons x 120k per ton minus estimated 250k budget).
5.How long does it take to raise the seeds in the nursery before transplanting to the main field.
6. What is upland and lowland and which states are classified under upland and lowland. Which one is also better for rice farming.
7.Is irrigation necessary and how is it done?
8. Can I plant the seedling without constructing hills or bunds.
This are the questions for now. As you can see from the questions, I'm a newbie in rice farming, experienced rice farmers, please come to my aid. Answers are needed urgently. Thanks in advance

I was following this thread happily until one bitter and confused soul named Atlanticfire crept in and started discouraging some passionate fellows on here. I have a palm estate in Cross River state Akamkpa that pays me 3.8 million naira every 30th July! So, OP, Pay no heed to that demon named Atlanticfire, FARMING CAN MAKE YOU A BILLIONAIRE!!!
pls it haven't gotten to that extent of using derogatory words on people, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion.

You are really making alot of money from your palm estate, do you process to oil or you sell outrightly ?

Pls sir like how much does it cost you to cultivate rice per hectare? planning on planting rice next season. THANK YOU.
The amount for farming a hectare of rice differs across different states and locality, I would say just budget like 130k for a hectare.

thanks man.
do you know the price for force up?
I don't know the price of forceup but I used something similar which I bought before covid 19, it was sold for 10,800 for a carton which have 12 pcs inside. The current price of non selective herbicide now should be 11,200 for a carton.
