CultureRe: I NEED Clarification About Ngwa Culture In Abia State by ikelords(m): 6:10am On Mar 14, 2020
From my personal experience with ngwa people, these people are extortionist, callous and greedy set of people, if you meet them for the first time they pretend to be nice and cool, they know how to impress visitors who are getting to know them for the first time, but as you deal further with them they show you their true colour. The Ngwa people see outsiders as potential avenue to extort money from and if you dont yeild to their demand they will look for a way to frustrate you. In a nut shell am not saying the girl you are marrying is bad, but you see her background and her extended are what you should try and look at critically. An average family in ngwa land is always at war with themselves, these kids born there grow up with that mindset of living and creating family crisis wherever they find themselves. I want to warn you, whatever you accept to do from today as a form a marriage rite, ensure you do it to the later, but if you stand your feet on the ground as a man and uphold you norm and values which you know is right , you have started creating an impression on how your inlaws should perceive you. I hope this helps.
AgricultureRe: My Sorjorn Into Rice Farming In 2020. by ikelords(op): 5:58pm On Mar 13, 2020
I learnt that there are 3 stages or grades of rice seeds, namely :
1) Breeder seeds
2) Foundation seeds
3) Grains.
The breeder seeds are developed by seed and research companies like IITA, these seeds are sold to trained farmers who cultivate this seeds specifically to get foundation seeds, these foundation seeds are what they sell open to farmers that cultivate for commercial purpose like myself. When this foundation seed is cultivated 3 times it turns to grain. This grain can also be cultivated too as seed but the disadvantage of planting grain is that you might not get the expected yield that is required and also the resistance to dieseas and germination rate might not be like the foundation and breeder seeds.

NB: Everything written here was what I was told by a state coordinator on rice farming. If you have any contrary opinion feel free to drop it. Let it be constructive pls.

Putting everything ready for the 2020 rice farming season. Purchased premium seeds from VCDP and IITA trained rice grower at the rate of 300 naira per kg. The choice of rice to be grown is faro 44, the reason for this is because it matures within 90 to 100 days, high yeild and ability to withstand harsh conditions unlike other rice cultivars that takes 120- 150 days and yields less. The needed quantity for cultivating 10 hectares is about 500kg.

The reason for buying farm inputs early is because it is cheaper now, when buying during farming season the price is usually very high.
AgricultureRe: My Sorjorn Into Rice Farming In 2020. by ikelords(op): 10:29pm On Feb 13, 2020
36 cans of non selective herbicide was purchased for the 10 hectares, this will be used to kill the weed before planting and also 30 cans of selective herbicide was also purchased, this will also be used to kill weed after 3 to 4 weeks of planting. It is called selective because it kills the weed and leave the rice.

Many things can contribute to this leave yellowing, the chief ones are
i. Shadding/Oxygen starvation- As the rice mature, the botton leaves get heavily shaded and naturally turn yellow as they age. If it is this, then there is no problem as it will soon disappear when you transplant to the field and they will get enough air circulation.
ii. Fungus- If this is the cause, you will see small circular brown lessions on the leaves as well. The spots eventually become larger. You can refer to appropriate chemical to fight this.
iii. Low Nitrogen or Potassium – If the Nitrogen or Potassium level is too low, yellow will occur. Nitrogen deficiency shows up as a general yellowing on the entire rice plant. Potassium deficiency will appear as bright yellow leave margins on the green leaves. You can apply fertilizer before or after transplanting from the nursery at your discretion.
iv. Low magnesium – Interveinal yellowing on older leaves is from low magnesium. If this is what you discovered, spray magnesium sulphate (Epsom salt) on the rice.
Still looking for solution to grasscutter problems here, I am afraid of using the chemical they said it scares it, before it will destroy my rice. In case you come across any solution, let me know pls.
Gud luck.

EMMAACHILE:
https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/we-have-identified-faro-61-as-high-yielding-rice-seed.html
When you plant Faro 61 and apply adequate fertilizer at the appropriate time with adequate water supply, it will be ready for harvest within 90 days. At harvest, you only need to cut the panicle leaving the stem.

When you apply fertilizer and water to the rice plant, it germinates again. The interesting thing about it is anywhere you harvest one panicle of rice, about three or more new ones will come up. Since you did not plant it fresh, it takes only 30 days instead of 90 to harvest. And any farmland you harvest 20 tonnes the first time; you will be expected to harvest about 50 tonnes at the second harvest which is just 30 days away. After the second harvest, you will again apply fertilizer and water and wait for another 30 days for another bigger harvest where you will get far more than what you got the second time. Since every panicle of rice you harvested, three or more new ones will germinate, the more you harvest the more the yield. The farmer is expected to clear the farm and plant new set of seed once in a year after over five harvests.

The harvest going on in my farm right now is the fourth harvest and next month we shall harvest the same plant for the fifth time. So, it is only the first time that you plant this seed that you will wait for 90 days before harvesting. All other subsequent harvests will be after every 30 days. You can get five to six tonnes per hectare after harvest. But we are buying the seed from the research institute with our money.
How can I get this faro 61 seed? Which institute sells it.

Good Idea.
1. How many KG of rice can be obtained from 1 bag (100kg) of Paddy?

2. How much does milling cost per 100kg

Thanks
a hectare of land when planting by broadcasting it takes 55 to 60kg and in return you are likely to get about 3.5 to 6 tons of rice paddy, this also depend on your agricultural practice. If you are to mill 70% is to white rice and 30% is for the rice bran/ husk. Let's say you get 1 ton from one hectare which is 1000kg, 70% of it is 700kg for white rice while 300kg is the rice bran.. I hope you understand

be wary of birds they finished my friend farm and he harvested 3 bags from 1 hectare of land
Birds during the raining season migrate and before they return we should have harvested. Thanks for pointing this out, that was my fear before i decided to venture into rice farming there was a thread saliubello did on his previous experience with birds and the damages they caused, I learnt a lot and took preventive measures by asking lot of questions from experienced farmers on when the birds migrate and when they return and time to plant to get the best yeild. Boss you will still teach me pepper and garden egg farming when the time comes o! Am loyal sir
