charix: This man is slowly taking Nigeria back to the Stone Age. It's only a matter of time before fire would get looked upon as an advancement in science.
So I want to build a castle above hills when I finally make it in life, complete with medieval weaponry and expert masonry - this whole plan has been killed because we have a president who cannot look beyond his grievance from 32years ago?! I know no Nigerian architect or construction workers who can design exactly what I have in mind. How won't this dictator put that into consideration! Please shut up. What's the point of studying engineering and construction in school when fg won't support local companies? |

I really like this idea.
Let our local engineering/construction companies do the work. |

MayorofLagos: Im eating, reading, typing, got music in my ears, heading to meeting in a few mins, need to send email, need to call my love and blow kiss...again, i need water, i should skip respond to this rail thingy but i cant cause when i saw it i was in a train snaking through subterranean tunnels....so i rearranged to do list and put on my thinking hat....
Im not a social critic but I would recommend that as a first rule we create a meaningful rating system for producing performance stats and scoring for administrators...that way we cn rate on big projects like this. Venting on a waste of public resource do us no good
The rail system is proposed as a solution to ease Lagos traffic. Why is Lagos traffic this bad? Due to population explosion. Why are there so many people in Lagos? Due to its relative modernity and urban profile. So will the addition of this rail system increase that profile and appeal? Yes. What can be expected? No one in Lagos will leave but more people will troop in to experience the new glamor and make the population problem worse. Will this situation ease Lagos traffic? No, it will worsen it.
Sustainability. Our mindset, habits and reactions to infrastructure and environment has not improved and we still respond to our environment in a stand-offish manner as consumers instead of owners. So we must be sincere with ourselves. After the whites passed administration of Nigerian Railway Corporation to us we ran it to the ground. Same with Apapa ports. Same with airline. We can't maintain roads, can't maintain buildings, we do not maintain drainage and sewer, when whites ran this country our water pipes flowed...not any more, we can't even generate and distribute electiricity successfully and consistently. So what public infrastructure do we maintain in our society? None! Now we are adding another burden to the public treasury.
Are we matured to handle the responsibility that comes with owning, operating and sustaining a rail transport system? Thank you for this response and I abosuletly agree with the bolded. You mentioned a rating system, what do you have in mind? |

Firefire: IlekeHD,
I do have attachment to PDP having financed grassroots politicians in my constituency.
But I see the truth, but our people are not honest with the truth.
Lagos State is highly geared, the debt is too higher compared to the claimed projects.
Ema jeki a lo ila kuro le ko, eko o kola.
The debt and the corresponding projects does not match. We're ready to listen to the truth on this thread. What is the truth and why do you speculate that they don't match? I'd like to know how much (per mile) Lagos was charged and how much Lagos REPORTED they spent. |

IyaIode: The light rail is a mass transit system being developed by the state. It is still under construction after gulping billions of naira. Speaking during his traditional 100 days account rendering exercise at the LTV ground in Ikeja, the governor urged Lagosians to vote for the APC governorship candidate in the state, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, saying he has all it takes to continue all the projects he might not be able to complete.
Blaming lack of federal government support for the uncompleted rail project, Fashola said all over the world, when cities and states build municipal rails like what Lagos is doing, their central governments support them morally and financially.
He said the federal government has failed to support Lagos and Rivers States which embarked on light rail projects because they are states administered by the opposition party. “If Lagosians vote for General Muhammadu Buhari next month, the new federal government will assist Ambode in this regard,” he said. Fashola said no government can complete all projects.
