The problem is that Yoruba leaders of the past were myopic and obsessed with frivolities. I don't see any reason why any well-led region in Nigeria cannot be exemplary, developed and united if led by visionary men and women who can focus on what matter the most. For example, the SW should be able to cobble together efficient solutions for things it can control like the provision of potable water, adequate healthcare, transport infrastructure et al. The current crop of Yoruba leaders simply need to be visionary, highly dedicated and disciplined. No region is constrained to work at Nigeria's pace if its leaders are driven, talented and dedicated.

We can when the chips are down.

We did it during June 12 actualisation struggle. We are the only ones that can checkmate those guys in this country, provided we are united the way we did during the June 12 wahala.
What united us during the June 12 saga?

Why don't we have the same elements today?

But you can't win against them based on how the country is structured. Cover ya rear end before reaching for a pipe-dream. Err, they got a ceremonial post in the powerplay, while the home front is in disarray and divided, and other groups gaining ground in the SW.
Yes. Imagine how Buhari boldly selects Northerners (90%) yet Yoruba mumunatus keep supporting his moves, stating that the most qualified should get the positions. Do we not have qualified Yorubas for the positions?

Personally, I don't think it has anything to do with "defensive mode". It is more of a house in disarray and divided - with one side that sold its soul to PDP for a plate of porridge. And a next side in APC that got outwitted in the scheme of things. I had a lot of hope in the one in APC, to even push for federalism once they win, since they controlled the party structure during the elections...but they failed woefully and lost in the subsequent powerplay to the cow jockeys lol.

As for the one in PDP - they're making a lot of noise now to passively antagonise the APC faction, by being loud, about a cause that's definitely just - but I still don't rate them. The both sides just need to bury the hatchet and talk about the way forward for Yorubas. Yoruba is bigger than party politics and Nigeria. We were there before Nigeria and we'll be there after Nigeria. The way forward is what we need now since both already lost, unless some pseuds want to live in denial.
Problem is, if Yorubas don't play this power play game, I fear the North will suck Nigeria dry. We're the only ones in their path.

Nigeria is a chess game.

The one-Nigeria simpletons are mostly semi-illiterates, politicians, sycophantic pseuds, and emotional loafers who can't see beyond their nostrils. Once you study the history of Nigeria, look at the dynamics of things, and do a proper comparative analysis with countries that are working - you will see why progress will forever be elusive to the country.

The structure is fundamentally faulty. The ghost of the Biafran war will never leave the country. And goals will never align cos it's a three-headed monster - Hausa/Fulani, Igbo, and Yoruba. Then you have the religious differences. Too many layers to attain progress and for proper nation building, hence the country keeps sinking every year, regardless of who's in charge.

Nigeria might be the only country that retrogresses annually and the reason isn't farfetched. They called the cow jockey, Buhari, the saviour - but after five months in power, he's yet to even achieve the easiest thing: appoint ministers. And the economy is about to crash under his watch. Before him, there was a GEJ - who was an utter despicable m0ron of the highest order. No one can fix that country the way it is - not even Jesus.

The only people holding Nigeria together are Yorubas. So the question is: why are Yorubas sacrificing their own destiny for the sake of a failure that can't be redeemed?
That's the big elephant in the room. I think we're on the defensive mode. We're trying to defend our moves and actions. Yorubas do not attack, we defend [which can be disabling].

Yorubas are collective people. Once the word starts spreading.....well.

And how feasible is regionalism?

Would the parasitic North allow the free oil money they get from the South go away like that?

Would they allow the tilting of the balance power and deny themselves the dominion they have over the rest of the country now?

How are the new regions going to be formed, so as to enable folks from the same ethnic groups, in all the pseudo-regions in the country now re-align with their brothers and sisters?

The whole thing is a pipe-dream - the North won't give up the dominion it has now, without a fight. And the vicious cycle of perpetual underdevelopment is going to continue. Yorubas just need to sit down and think about the way forward. We can't just let some shytehole keep holding our progress down. We're on our way to becoming a first world country in the first republic before everything was truncated. Why do we have to keep sacrificing our progress for that shytehole? Time to come together as one and start playing chess. The checkers under the guise of pseudo-sophistication is boring now.
Honestly, every time a Yoruba types "one Nigeria" on NL, I feel like dashing him/her a hot slap.

Is it a curse?

I think it's feasible because we're the North's only alliance in the south....and the alliance is on the brink. When Yorubas realize it and North realize Yorubas have realized it, then we can start a whole new conversation.

Everything is just jagajaga. Why should FG be regulating this ish?

In USA, each state has its own mining resources regulations. (i.e http://www.dep.state.fl.us/mainpage/programs/mines.htm)

The oil curse. sad

And the oil Nigeria exports can't even feed the millions of mouths in that country, especially when you consider the fact that they'll loot 70% of money accrued and spend 20% on re-current expenditure. Why can't they diversify the economy? That's just common sense.

Another reason why I despise that country.
Lol if we don't achieve regionalism, what makes you think exploiting non-oil revenues will be corrupt free?

Nigerians are just corrupt in general.

Nigeria has 620,000 ounces of gold reserves at Ogun

https://www.bullionstreet.com/uploads/news/2012/2/1329137168.png

Africa's largest populated country Nigeria also claimed to have a large proven gold reserves of 620,000 ounces in its Ogun State.

CAPE TOWN(BullionStreet) : Africa's largest populated country Nigeria also claimed to have a large proven gold reserves of 620,000 ounces in its Ogun State.

According to country's Mines Minister, Mohammed Musa Sada, mining company Ratel identified the reserves at Eperindo in the state.

Speaking at the International Conference on Mining here, he announced various incentives by the federal government, ranging from capital allowances up to 95 per cent of qualifying capital expenditure, waiver of customs and import duties for plant among others for potential investors.

He also asserted that the federal government had created an enabling environment to stimulate sustained growth through the full exploration and exploitation of the vast mineral resources available in the country.

He said the regulatory framework such as the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act of 2007 and Mining Regulations were in line with international best practices and had been put in place to ensure security of tenure, greater transparency in granting access, competitive fiscal terms and the encouragement of industry led by the private sector.

GOLD DISCOVERED IN NIGERIA (SOUTH WEST)

The Federal government yesterday raised hopes of a major break-through in the country's effort developing alternative mineral resource aside
from oil and gas, when it revealed the discovery of gold to the depth
of 3,000 meters with an estimated two million ounces in the Western
part of Nigeria.

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke who disclosed this at the presentation of
the World Bank-sponsored Nigerian Airborne Geophysical Survey Data
phase II in Abuja, said the import of the latest development is that
Nigeria may well be on her way to joining countries like Ghana in
supplying gold to the world market.
According to Madueke, a coring done last year by the small mining companies, to the depth of 3,000
meters, has proved more than 300,000 ounces, with 2 million ounces
estimated,

“ The importance of this fantastic piece of news is probably best appreciated within the context of the knowledge that
Nigeria has gold schist belts in the western half of the country that
are very similar to those of Ghana”, she said.
She said surveys have shown that Nigeria is richly endowed with a range of solid
minerals which if properly managed and exploited may in the near future
become the engine of our national economic growth.

She said the Ministry has decided to place special focus on seven of the minerals
which includes, bitumen/tar sand with estimated reserves of 27bn
barrels of oil equivalent, coal (2.7 billion tonnes), iron ores (3
billion tonnes), limestone (2.23 billion tonnes), barytes (14 million
tonnes) and lead/zinc sulphides one million tonnes) .

Madueke described the completion of the geophysical survey phase II as
something that would facilitate mineral exploration, ground water
prospecting, pollution and geo-hazard monitoring.

“The survey also measures the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) and Shuttle Radar
Topographic Mission (SRIM) which provide detailed information on
terrains, vegetations, landforms, settlements, roads and drainages.
The data is therefore extremely useful in security surveilance and
development planning”, she said.

The Minister further said plans are underway geological, mineral and geo-chemical mapping of the
country with a view to providing all the necessary data needed to
adequately tap the mineral resources to our economic advantage.

She said the Ministry is putting in place a genstone certification process,
adding that it has reached aggreement with internationally renowned
Nigeria-born Jeweler to design a Jewelry line, using exclusively
Nigerian gemstones.

This line of Jewelry will be launched for the international and domestic market in March this year, she said.

Earlier, the geologist involved in the preparation the survey data, Prof.
Collins Reeves said a mechanism will be put in place to enable
interested scientists to study, interpret and analyse the geophysical
survey data and that the outcome of their study will be made public
next year.

He said the experience of Brazil could be helpful in Nigeria quest for effective utilization of solid mineral resources.
