The fainting drama in court yesterday was well scripted. They simply used some tricks from the playbook of Dino Melaye and Olisa Metuh. It’s all an attempt to escape justice.

Even if not scripted, it's all sentiments. The law should not be sentimental.

Don't mind them. They are old enough to vote, rape, shout the name of God and burn people, and commit all kinds of crime. It's when they are caught that they start asking for amnesty, calling UN and FIFA. When government is sharing money or there's recruitment, people with these kinds of faces get it without much ado. Their mates are doing fulani herdsmen, boko haram, ipob and co. Make we dey play.

The problem should stop but cannot stop in one week, i guess. Nigeria has many problems, this is just one 'micro'(compared to the many problems) problem that we remembered this week. For example, executive wise, minister BTO of Interior is in charge of this in a way. You cannot really fault him as idle so far. The judiciary also has a big role to play. The problem here is that they were malnourished, not that they are young. The whole system is malnourished, so let's not make it political or party. It's decades of neglect and underfunding, both outside and inside. Other hundreds of thousands of people are also in detention till tomorrow, malnourished and languishing without a sentence. It should not be, but it is what it is, and has been so for ages.
Let's not transfer our aggression and frustration to one man, Tinubu. He is not the cause of their problems. It is not a Tinubu problem, but a family failure and religious leadership failure problem. Tinubu has probably failed you, why did you not go about looting generators, computers, and freezers? Why did you not carry Russian flags or burn down police stations and Federal government property? If you have children their mates, would your children do that? If no, has Tinubu 'passed' them?
In their society, these ones are old enough for voting, marriage, kidnapping, banditry, hard drugs, labour and business, government work and government palliatives/grants, and virtually everything else except the consequences of their actions. We can choose to be continually sentimental though. Let's give good optics.

This is all under public domain, it's not new. These boys are accountable even in religious system, they have mates that will go to hell or be punished under the various religious tenets. We can only be political with the truth, but they are old enough when it comes to voting, or crime, or getting something for themselves. i cannot for the life of me carry a generator, or freezer, or Russian flag as a teenager and move like that in protest. It's a family and religious leadership failure. The government is within the full ambit of the law so far.

Read my posts carefully. Mercy can mean giving other forms of punishments. Asking a minor to pay 10m as bail meanwhile a senior member of the legislative who committed a crime in public was charged 500k as bail makes our judiciary look silly. And yes in some countries, children are treated with love and understanding that it is better to educate and rehabilitate them. I will summarise, for those who are minors - I would advise for them to be treated differently. If what I have read is true, Tinubu is on the same page as above. You shouldn't be punishing a kid the same way you punish an adult.

Unfortunately, in Nigeria's law, they've not been punished. They are still in court. They may be discharged, you know. Tinubu is on the same page because the case is public and trending. He probably saw them just like you and i saw them. He doesn't see the faces and ages of everyone in police custody. We need serious reforms, that i subscribe to. The reform process to help our law enforcement, reduce police detention time, etc. will not happen in a month. But it must happen, we are all for that.
However, nothing justifies crime and criminals should not be pampered. It doesn't end well.

The problem of the judiciary and law enforcement didn't start today. Better to avoid police trouble. You can't go about looting, burning and calling for war and instability and expect rest and lolly pop.

My posts have been focused on the judiciary and the police force. It is not a good look for Nigeria that kids are being arraigned or even accused. If this should get out there - it will be difficult for Nigeria to justify arresting minors in this particular case especially knowing that life is a lot tougher for people.

Here they are below. i don't understand how to justify these. The police can't just give them candies. These are the same types of people used as mob in the North. They would kill you without batting an eyelid when told to. They are not children for God's sake.

That is why it is mercy and why wise people know how to use. There is always a cost to mercy as a parent, as a leader, as someone who has been wronged. No one is arguing the kids haven't done something wrong. What is been said is temper justice with mercy. For there to be mercy, there has to have been something done wrong. Life does work that way. As a parent, I know when to show mercy to my kids. As a leader within my space, I know when to show mercy to those who if justice was applied would be punished.

Okay, have they been sentenced mercilessly? Their case is still in court with the judiciary not the executive. They are simply victims, with every other person in police custody, of Nigeria's slow and cumbersome legal system. There are many innocent people in police detention for years waiting for sentencing. It has little or nothing to do with the present government or age of the criminal.

I will repeat my foundational statement. My comment has nothing to do with the protesters but the minors. As long as there is one minor in there, the comment stands. It is ridiculous to arrest a minor and charge them for the crimes mentioned. You can deal with them via other means. A wise leader would manage this differently. It is not good optics which is why Tinubu has requested the AGF to look into this. Do you think anyone here is going to care about the Nigerian Police Force after this silly show of dealing with minors? I for one have resolved that I will not go out of my way to help any police officer.

You are right about optics and politics. Our law enforcement is messed up from decades. Minors can't just go Scot free for being minors. We have many minors as foot soldiers in the North especially, committing all kinds of crimes from bandits to herdsmen to boko haram to religious murderers and jungle justice. Are you saying all these crimes should be overlooked once they are minors involved or what? What part of the universe allows people go Scot free because they are minors? If you are asking for juvenile protection in their judgment and punishment, i understand. But scot free, mbah no capital NO.

A mark of a good leader is one that knows how to show mercy. The best example is our father in heaven, we deserve deaths by the law due to our sins. However his son died for our sins and as such gave a route for him to show mercy to those who ask for it by accepting this price and acknowledging that Jesus is the way to heaven. There are examples of how wise leaders or people in authority use mercy. These are kids. Not all crime is the same. Kids carrying placards and protesting should not be jailed. Protests are not crimes. On the charge of treason, is the Nigerian Police force ok? They are charging kids with treason.

Mercy comes at a cost, a high cost of Jesus paying the ransom, or mercy for the merciful. You probably have not seen a mob before, maybe you will have a different opinion apart from seeing pictures of hungry people. Everyone in police custody is malnourished and hungry, perhaps we should have mercy on them all and release our prisons to show some godliness. Life doesn't work that way brother.

What I do know is charging any protester for treason is wrong. Protests are not riots. It is a right in democracy to protest.

How many minors do you know there, because they are all being lumped together in the pity narrative. i didn't see where or who accused them of treason, maybe the people pouring their frustrations on Tinubu accused them of treason in their WhatsApp groups. The news reports i read was about attacking and injuring police officers, accused of burning police stations, the High Court Complex, and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Complex during the End Bad Governance protests.

He's young just like the boys in police detention/custody. Young people should continue doing anyhow i guess. Tpain should not allow children like this in prison, Remi should take him as her child. Comedians.

They are hungry stricken because everyone in police detention is hungry stricken regardless of age. Should every criminal in Nigeria be released already because they are hungry stricken? What crime is exactly a crime in this country, because everything somehow gets a defense from the people.

There is no excuse for any minor to be accused of treason because of protests. That is a move that will make one lose points socially. It shows the lack of empathy and understanding but then again it is the Nigerian Police Force. They are not helping their reputation. Everyone involved in this should stop and think. From jailing them to asking them to post bail of 10m naira, that is just ridiculous. These were people under the age of 15. 15 years old!!

My exact thoughts. Young folks like these people (some are up to 30yrs old BTW) are among bandits, herdsmen, kidnappers, ipob, etc. killing, raping, destroying lives and property. Some internet fraudsters are this young. So i don't really get the point of people sentimentally saying they should not be arrested. Criminals must know that crime doesn't pay, not pampered. What people should be asking for is prison reform. Do we have juvenile justice system, how will our prison system help these victims of decades of leadership failure to become better citizens after? Instead, folks are drumming their impotence frustrations on Tinubu and how he should not be reelected. Like Tinubu knows all the faces and names of people going to detention every day in Nigeria.
