chatinent:What court says he should be released? Do you have the court order? Why do you not recognise the supreme court order? Is the Supreme Court a joke to you or why this hypocrisy? https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/nigerian-court-denies-separatist-leader-kanu-bail-orders-trial-2024-03-19/ https://apnews.com/article/nnamdi-kanu-supreme-court-ipob-51a637e9f77fc14d49322ee52ef5a0b8 |
chatinent:What is this one saying? How can you compare that Benin republic prisoner to lamidi. Did the prisoner have radio broadcasts orchestrating the killing of soldiers, police and civilians? Did he kill people for coming out to work or order that they should be killed? Did he attempt to destabilize a region outside his own? Lamidi is held responsible for ipod and their activities and his brother in Finland will also join him soon by God's grace. It's shameful how you people twist history and logic so shamelessly because of tribe. |
The president will be doing a great disservice to the nation and to God in any attempt to release lamidi the fendi man. |
icedbreez:There are many ways to cut cost. Calm down. |
May be a good move after all. But i hope it will not only be headed and filled with northerners. Igbo man and Efik man can lead cow and livestock. Even white men do it in their countries, force people to have sense. |
Gangster ke? This one fit beat up the whole team if dem no win world cup oh. |
While this is good, it doesn't solve the root problem. It only removes one excuse of the greedy. Where is our Trade commission from Federal Ministry of Commerce and Industry to regulate prices? Ram and tomatoes are not imported but we recently saw the price jack up by times ten, and come back down. We also saw the game between naira and dollar. |
Lamidi is not a suspect but a convict. He should not be released under any condition, the laws of the land and of God do not release the fendi man. |
Ironbull:For context, Liberian president annual salary is 90,000 USD with a population of 5million people and 4billion USD GDP. Nigerian president annual salary is 69,000 USD with a population of 218million people and 470billion USD GDP. |
Didijiji:How much is the salary of the two Presidents. Can you logically start your conversation from there? |
Wow, something is not looking right with this man's case. He was very outspoken against ipod. |
chidiokay:Mistakes will be made and lessons will be learned. i agree that the FG should have tried to immediately checkmate the increase, which was caused by fluctuating rates. Unfortunately, Nigeria does not generally have a system in place for curtailing arbitrary raises in cost, we seriously need that, especially in our markets. It's basically the same thing that has affected most sectors, just vibes. No real economic reason. At least, we both know that customs has nothing much to do with a naija used car selling higher than the price it was bought. That's why food prices skyrocketed, not really customs. A basket of tomatoes went up by times ten and came back again. Same with meat, eggs, ram during the Eid and others. No proper regulation from the start. Another arm of the FG tax committee recommended N800/$ Customs duty rate about a month ago. Hopefully, that should work soon. Again on Dangote refinery, FG has a 20% stake in it, that is apart from all the waivers given to him and the moneys given in billions of dollars. The LASG also gave him great support that he did not receive in other states. Dangote is importing crude for two main reasons. Cost-effectiveness compared to Nigerian premium grades crude which cost more. There's something in refining called crack spread i.e crude oil has different grades and some have more spread to refine to different products than others. A higher crack spread indicates greater profitability and encourages refineries to maximise capacity utilisation. Lower crack spread crude cost less but are not as profitable for Dangote. Number 2 reason is the govenment juggling between meeting quota sales to outsiders at max. profit and selling to Dangote. Like you said, all the buyers are businessmen including Dangote. They shuffle who to sell to and the quantity. As for the FG owned refineries, there MUST be turn around maintenance, whether they are producing or not. This keeps the refinery alive in a sense and suitable(good price) for future buyers in case they decide to sell. Otherwise, they will sell it as scrap to mallam. Refinery is complex, even your car, you can't just park it and expect it will retain its quality. Not to mention the deep seated corruption in the NNPC that we've been shouting about since and before Diezani days. Literally, there are people that have money (how much is money kind of money) in that system that you don't necessarily want to pick fight head on with, with all the fights on ground already. The PIB should help in this as time goes on. Senator Heineken is one clueless minister i agree, but he is nowhere near NNPC's problem. He's being minister for less than a year. i will be calling Kyari and co instead, not Heineken. And Heineken got us a good deal also this week with African Energy Bank HQ. Yaradua's mistake reversal of the Kaduna and Port Harcourt refinery sales is why we are still talking about the refineries today. Those refineries are one of the reasons why Dangote and other refineries struggled so long and still continue to struggle. As for the exited companies, free money is diferent from profit. Many of them are very corrupt and cannot explain to their HQs why and how they will start making profit instead of free money. They have exploited us enough, let them go. BTW, a major percentage of their profit and main staff were going out of Nigeria, right? Companies that have been in Nigeria for over 50 years and tere is still no possiblity of Nigerians been trained and able to run them, are those ones companies? What part of the world allows that apart from us? They will carry school dropouts to come here and be director and vice president, abeg. They should gerrout. We will survive. We need people who are serious about Nigeria and business, not exploitation. |
LordReed:Those top Fortune 500 CEOs and other C Suite Executives have also read the Bible. And that 500 or 1000 number of rich people are still human beings. We don't count them as more than one person in a census or vote. So, yes, Buddhism and its influence is limited, and most Buddhists are in Asia. That neither Buddhism nor Hinduism is evangelical again proves their lack of influence and relevance. Apparently their deity didn't realise or think ahead that there are other creatures outside China and India, or there were no plans for them. For me, true muslims are already more than true christians and have been that way before i was born and for a very long time, it's not just a projection. So, i am not speaking for religious population but the influence that the BIBLE has had compared to all the billions of other books. It remains unparalleled by a wide margin. i have not chosen the wide spread nature of the christian religion but the widespread influence of the Bible. There's a difference. |
chidiokay:What do you mean by the crazy revenue drive solely via taxation? Has there been an increase in tax or VAT that we are unaware of? Because we are very much aware of how the government has tried to reduce tax and customs duties instead, aside from the news last week of executive order to suspend import duties and value-added tax on essential medical supplies imported into the country. You said that the FG wields more power, but immediately disprove it by pointing to the helplessness of two different administrations. Dangote refinery is working with the 100% backing and help of the FG, both past and present, and the LASG. It is not just the effort of Dangote. The money and promises consistently pumped into the government refineries is an indication that they want it to work, but there's something more to it. The so called template you mention, is not part of it that Tinubu did by floating currency and subsidy removal. Is that not what they teach every world economist? Is that not what economists have been shouting for over a decade until it was implemented, and they went mute? Tinubu is not taking loan from IMF, good that we now agree on that. Most of the loan has been from the CBN. There is no way the government will not borrow, or do you have another option? If you don't have money, and you must pay bills, will you not borrow? Loan is not loan, you must look at the conditions of the loan, and also the purpose of, and need for the loan. The oil and gas sector is not a block making industry where you just produce within hours. It takes time to see positive change in such a large and refined sector. It is a definition of the adage to destroy is very easy. Who is giving Nigeria quota, it is Nigeria itself that 'lobbies' for more quota because you get more money if you supply more. So it is to Nigeria's good, not anyone else good, if quota is met. Aside from having to supply Dangote refinery with some of their crude oil, the issues of vandalism and maintenance remain. Those are real challenges that cannot be wished away. Nigeria's last Offshore project was in 2009, so how do you significantly increase production. With the multi-billion-dollar deals the government is now signing in the sector, that is a new world of possibility apart from an economic revamp. This is beyond NNPC's well documented incompetence. Other leaders have tried solving NNPC, Tinubu is not resting on that, that is significant. Yar'Adua is a topic for another time. The advantages of his style are yet to be seen. All the revocations he made is what we are still suffering from and have paid heavily for today. Lastly, half of the companies that exited Nigeria did so for selfish reasons, not because they loved Nigeria. They are the ones that benefited most from Nigeria's rotten system. Now, that it looks like they must really work for their profit and rightly pay, they are leaving. That is aside from the half that already had plans to leave for other reasons. Give it at least one year from now. You should start seeing the difference. |
Poiniyisworld:It's funny to notice that in all these, nobody thanks or attributes the success of these kids to any governor. If these schools were in Anambra, somehow many people online would foolishly say it is because of Peter the liar Obi. i really rest my case. |
Smartcitizen:Someone who doesn't know the level of damage done by the PDP calling another dumb must have a lot of jokes. |
Semaj77:He'd likely prefer death. |
Cambodia, how? |
Smartcitizen:Okay good, we are both agreed on the fact that the PDP era was a time of misgovernment and foolishness. Case closed, i am not interested in who is a better failure. |
LordReed:Talking about numbers and religion, There are about 2.4 billion christians in the world (Personally and BTW, i don't believe that a huge % of them are true Bible christians). There are about 21.9 billion muslims in the world. There are about 1.2 billion hindus in the world. There are about 535 million buddhists in the world. All four religions are from Asia as you know. Now to define their influence and relevance to the world, 99% of Buddhists are found in the Asia -Pacific region. Most of the 1 % outside Asia are still migrants from Asia. It's also a staggering less than 1% figure for Hindu population outside Asia. Again, most of these less than 1% are migrants from Asia. You cannot compare these to the muslim and christian numbers and percentages. That is influence and relevance. But like i have said many times, i am not talking about religion. i am talking about the Bible. While the Buddhist and Hindu books may be older than the Bible, nobody knows them, or let's say, an insignificant number of people know them outside the Asia-Pacific. They lack global influence and relevance. They cannot compete on level ground. If you remove tradition, restriction and force (which ALL the other books enjoy), most of them will further lose their influence and relevance. They can't even survive half of what the Bible has gone through if you know history well. Once again, i have not said that the Quran or the Buddhist scriptures are not inspired. The Bible is inspired by God, they are the ones that know the spirit that inspired their own books. The only spirit that i know is God and my own spirit. i have not said that other spirits do not exist, even the Bible affirms that they do. |
Smartcitizen:So you agree that you have shifted the goalpost from PDP didn't do well and didn't save when they should have. Have we made progress on this? This is objective reflection, you are the one being emotionally involved here. |
Smartcitizen:Okay, so it's time to shift the goalposts from PDP didn't do well and should have saved for Nigeria, to Buhari's performance. And maybe after that, we'll move to Tinubu. |
LordReed:Those religions(including Christianity) didn't increase or continue because of their books/scriptures. They continued because humans are naturally religious, they'll take the religion that they find. Humans will always find something or someone to worship, these religions supply that demand. What is the name of the Hindu or Buddhist scriptures, it's largely unheard of or localized. One of the reasons why the Bible is a great book is its relevance for length of existence. How many books are as old as the Bible and still relevant? They've all lost their relevance. Like i hinted, the Bible is not the only inspired book. It's different because it is inspired by God. i have not denied inspiration of other books by some other spirits. There are principalities and powers and the Bible teaches that, it's not new. There's no book that surpasses the Bible in influence, time span, present past and future insight, and change of life. The Bible changes lives, not just instruct. |
Smartcitizen:If PDP had saved, Buhari would not have needed to borrow. Government is a continuum. PDP had enough and excess revenue to not borrow, yet they borrowed for even basic things like salary. It's common sense. It's like person A(PDP) having income of 100,000 and expenses of 80,000 and yet borrowing. He should have saved at least 20,000 monthly but instead had negative balance and debt. Person B (APC) came in to meet the debt higher expenses like 90,000 and less income of like 60,000. Where's the magic that he would not borrow. Yet he didn't even borrow to pay salaries like PDP. Most of Buhari's borrowing was to pay due debt and for infrastructure. |
Smartcitizen:There's nothing to Google or confirm there, i lived it. Perhaps you were very young then and didn't know much about what was going on. The oil boom period of 2011 to 2014 was supposed to increase our reserves and savings. Instead, it was grossly depleted. ECA(Excess crude account) went from $11 billion to $2.5 billion with nothing to show. i remember the governors fighting for their share of the loot. And the then CBN governor and coordinating minister of the economy screaming about it and how Nigeria was in big trouble. External reserve also plunged instead of common sense increase. Do you know where all the money went? People's pockets. |
loswhite:Do you want the funding increased or not? Your wants are not subject to sense. |
OriOko88:Short memories. |
Rewane dey here? He'll stop all the lamentations of an idle professor. All of them only talk like parrots when they don't have government appointment. |
chidiokay:Sorry, i understand the hardship. It was expected though, tough call. The thing is that we live in a democracy, the downside is that there is a lot of bureaucracy in democracy. You don't issue decrees and orders, you carry majority along. We don't have a good foundation so it makes matters worse. If you check countries especially in Asia that have grown very rapidly in the past 3 to 4 decades, they are NOT democracies. Nobody can question the leadership in the democratic sense or put hurdles. So where they have visionary leaders, they are literally flying. Who born you to do anyhow, steal or put the price you feel like, rent seek or even criticize the president's decision in those places? It's unlike here, where the FG wants to do things, there's attack from everywhere. A politician will be a politician, he will have to tread carefully in such a case. He'll have to make people see reason. They'll have to be placated, and babysitted for cooperation. Look at the distractions of insecurity, suicide bombers, bandits, kidnappers, boko haram and unknown gunmen. Not to mention thieves sabotaging infrastructure. This is aside outcries about what the president does, eats, wears, who he employs, where is she from, who is handling contract, whose company, etc. A democratic government must be answerable to all these and more and still play their cards carefully and slowly. They are on slippery ground. All these rant is to say that you cannot expect real/tangible changes in one year. You have to patiently wait. For instance, most of what the president had in plan since August to October last year are just starting last month and this month. They are just rolling them out. So he has to make solid policies and framework that will last. Unfortunately, Betty Edu or whatever her name, should have spearheaded the help of the poor was politically checkmated. Her work is in the hand of governors who are doing next to nothing about it. What you called lavish spending is not lavish but part of the budget agreed on by both the legislative arms and the ministries. It is not a one man decision. N60 billion was budgeted for the students’ loan programme, not 10 billion, and it's a start. It needs funding. Nigeria has not borrowed any loan from IMF since Tinubu that i am aware of, you can update me. We are not among IMF's top 10 debtors. We have Ghana, Angola, Kenya, Cote d Ivoire in that set, not Nigeria. Currently, there is massive financial reengineering ongoing in oil and gas. These things don't take weeks or months to show, they take years. Nigeria is getting ---HQ of Sahel Climate Fund —HQ of African Central Bank —HQ of Africa Energy Bank —HQ of the new Gulf of Guinea (GoG) Combined Maritime Task Force This is a lot of investment achieved in one year. i agree that we need a consumer board where prices of things are regulated. 60% of the suffering of many has been greedy rent-seeker citizen caused, not FG caused. But when the plans begin to fall in place, it will be like a tsunami bigger than the enemies of the country. Give it some more time. There are people who are benefitting from the rot of Nigeria, they are fighting tooth and nail against progress. |
loswhite:Exactly, it should not have been increased, right? How much of the subsidy is in your account? |
