Maobichek: Good morning, despite my clarification you still hinged on my transfer (expenditures) alone; there would definitely be no way my transactions would be expenditures alone, thank you and have a great day. Actually, you said "I have done over 15 transfer yesterday and today but it's still the old 26/52 Naira charge, i later ask someone in CBN and it was confirmed that the new tax is yet to take effect." You assumed on these bank transfers that the tax reform is not implemented. This is why i have to ask you how you think you should be taxed. You seemed to be expecting some tax deductions on your 15 transfers. Are you an employee or self employed? How were you taxed before this year? The answer to these questions may help with the explanation you're looking for. |
Politics › Re: National Assembly Disowns ‘Gazetted’ Tax Laws by Image123(m): 12:34am On Jan 06 |
Maobichek: I'm not ignorant, what i wrote is both income and expenditures, if you have been taxed on any income received since January 1st, please confirm it via proofs. I'm in the FCT so anything happening in Nigeria should start here.
I'm apolitical hence i don't support any political party; I'm not holding brief for the ruling party or the opposition, thank you. Did the FG tell you they'd be taxing your bank transfers? |

UrVillageChief: Which part of the law says unemployed people are exempted? Let’s start from there. Which part of the law states that there would be grants and social benefits for the unemployed like it’s done in the countries we are emulating? Please, I’m waiting because those are the major concerns I highlighted. A fresh graduate who’s earning an income through betting (for instance) is to be taxed according to the newly created income tax laws but there’s no provision and mechanism in place to get him employed or entitled to social benefits, loans or grants at least or if you think he wouldn’t be taxed, kindly share with us the part of the law that says he’s exempted since he’s unemployed. Also share with me the Nigerian laws that make provisions to cater to the needs of unemployed citizens. Again, this conversation is not your regular Obidients vs Agbado as you commonly call yourselves on this forum, so please trash the old vs new regime nonsense you’re trying to bring up because I’m not here to compare one nonsense with another as both the new and the old shouldn’t be in existence until those said mechanism are put in place, no human society taxes unemployed people without making them entitled to benefits. No human society thrives on taxing poverty. Supporting Tinubu shouldn’t turn you into Obi’s hordes of lunatic followers who believe Obi is perfect and can do no wrong. The lunatics that are fond of hurling insults at anyone who dares to question him. That’s not how sane humans should be, we should be able to put sentiments aside and judge things objectively. One of the many Ódés even said Nnamdi Kanu would rot in sokoto prison—ultimately presuming that I was one of his supporters just because I’m faulting a policy created by Tinubu🤣 Now tell me, what’s the difference between you and the Peter Obi’s hordes of delulus? You obviously are on a different wavelength, i have other things to do than babysitting. |
Politics › Re: Questions & Answers On The New Nigeria Tax Law by Image123(m): 11:36am On Jan 04 |
UrVillageChief: An unemployed individual shouldn’t have any business paying taxes to even start with. So, that last year tax you are trying to reference shouldn’t be in existence if Nigeria was a working society. The same Taiwo Oyedele who’s now the Chairman of Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms in Nigeria, once condemned the taxation of the poor saying no country can get rich off taxing the poor but today, he’s one of the ppl championing the cause. That’s just an average Nigerian for you😂 We condemn wrongdoings only when we aren’t benefitting from them. His condemnation of the tax regime was in 2020 but today, he’s swiftly switched up. A poor individual is the one who’s unemployed and doesn’t enjoy any basic rights the government—rights like free healthcare, grants, loans and other social benefits. In civilized and sane societies, the rich are the ones worst-hit by taxation because the concept of taxation is to take from the rich and powerful to care for the masses but in Nigeria, the reverse is the case and in fact, the rich are not even complaining because why should they? At this rate (15% min), even the poorest Nigerian (those earning the minimum) aren’t even exempted because the total they earn in a year is 840k, meaning that the extra 40k would still be taxed. In sane countries, you have no reasons to not want to pay taxes because the countries’ frameworks are built in such a way that everyone is earning incomes and those not employed are given grants and benefits. Now tell me, what welfare programs and packages have you ever enjoyed from the government? What social benefits are reserved for the poor and unemployed by the Nigerian federal authorities that makes you think it’s normal and cool to still tax the same people you’ve failed to help? Supporting politicians shouldn’t erode your reasoning and common sense and no, I’m not one of those who support nonsense all in the name of party and tribal politics and affiliations. I support what’s right and condemn what’s not. The Tinubu’s tax regime is ill-timed and the rates and limits are not well-thought-out. Taxation is good and pivotal to the growth of the country but no country gets rich off taxing poverty! What part of the law says unemployed people should be taxed? You forgot to explain how a poor individual who’s struggling with life and fighting to give himself a better life is taxed. You forgot to give a comparison of the old and new to show why we should stay with the old. Kindly remember this time, my pro-Tinubu friend. |

mrvitalis: I have read the tax law my issue is the tax threshold of 800k which is half of earning UN classify as extreme poverty is too low... What exactly don't you understand
How can you as someone who earns less than 3 dollars a day( poverty lines) to pay tax?
Poverty lines is 1095 dollars per year and you have a tax threshold of 550 dollars
You are asking me to read the tax laws as if what I'm saying is incorrect You said that minimum wage was to be taxed. You were shown your ignorance. Next goal post. |
