Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha said in Owerri yesterday that government has spent N7 billion on the building of the International Cargo Airport in the state

Briefing journalists at his private home in Owerri, Okorocha said government undertook the construction of the cargo airport to enable the work to move on, adding that the state would thereafter demand a refund from the Federal Government.

The new Owerri power substation is nearing completion and will soon be commissioned. This means improved power supply within Owerri and environs.

Owerri recently hosted the Catholic National Choir Fiesta for Universities also known as Forum for the Inculturation of Liturgical Music (FILM).

No fewer than 50 choir groups from both the Federal and State universities across the country are expected to converge at Imo State capital, Owerri for the 2017 edition of the National Choir Fiesta otherwise known as Forum for the Inculturation of Liturgical Music (FILM).
The event which will be hosted by St. Joseph Chaplaincy, Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri from Sunday, 1st to Sunday, 8th of October, will be flag off with a pontifical Mass to be celebrated by His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Anthony Obinna, Metropolitan Archbishop of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese at the church premises on Monday, 2nd October, 2017.
Disclosing this in a press briefing, the St. Joseph Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Dr. Anthony P. C. Njoku said that the musical fiesta will be the first time IMSU chaplaincy and the entire Owerri ecclesiastical province will be hosting such event since its inception in 1995 through the pioneering efforts of the University of Benin.
According to Njoku, “FILM aims at encouraging Catholic and other students to grow spiritually through singing praises to the Lord, participating actively in church devotions and Liturgical practices and using their creativity and varied talents to contribute to the building up of the treasury of Church music in our part of the world, hence the Inculturation dimension. FILM affirms, encourages and nourishes the goodness and promise of our young Catholics and invests in their robust development.
“FILM brings together Catholic Choirs in Nigerian Universities, every two years, in a one week Music fiesta, during which brand new Liturgical music compositions, by these young choristers and composers.
“The New Compositions are based on various indigenous languages and cultures in Nigeria such as Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Efik and so on. During FILM festival these new compositions are played formally for the first time, in the highest standards possible, for the edification and spiritual upliftment of the audience and eventually for the enrichment of the treasury of church music,” he noted.
Njoku who availed that over 1,600 student delegates, 100 officials, National executives officers of FILM, chaplains of catholic chaplaincies, founding fathers of FILM and other clergies will grace the 7 day event, also used the opportunity to invite the general public and youths in particular to the glorious occasion.

It’s Madness Fighting Okorocha Over Zuma’s Statue – Imo Speaker

The speaker of Imo state House of Assembly, Acho Ihim , on Thursday said that it was simply madness for anybody to call for Governor Rochas Okorocha ’ s head for erecting the statue of the President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma in Owerri , the state capital .

Ihim, who briefed newsmen in his official residence in Owerri on the programmes lined up for the forthcoming Commonwealth Parliamentary Association scheduled to hold in Owerri , said that the member states were gathering to find solutions to the problems of poverty and underdevelopment which were bedeviling the African continent .

The lawmaker disclosed that Vice President Yemi Osibanjo will be in the state to flag off the program on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari , revealed that common goals on deepening bilateral relationship between Commonwealth countries will top the agenda of the session.

Ihim, who represents Okigwe State Constituency defended Okorocha over the controversial statue of Zuma in Owerri , saying that it was a product of a bill passed into law by the State Assembly which now empowers the governor to accord recognition to any individual who has distinguished himself in his service to God and humanity across the globe .

“The only way to appreciate anybody who does or did well is to appreciate him when alive or dead . I wonder why nobody raised an eyebrow when a similar honour was accorded to the Ghanaian President , Addo Akufo and Second Republic Vice President, Dr Alex Ekwueme.
“It would be madness for anybody to say that Okorocha spent that amount for his statue . South Africa Airlines can now come in to lift produce straight for exploit from our Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport and it is as a result of that visit. If we could celebrate Mandela, why not Zuma, ” Ihim said.

Ihim also dismissed insinuations in some quarters that the law making house is a rubber stamp of Governor Rochas Okorocha of the state .

He argued that it was grossly misleading for some individuals to misconstrue the cordial working relationship between the Legislature and the Executive in the states as a sign of weakness on the former.

According to him , the prevailing atmosphere of mutual tolerance and understanding between the two arms of government was a product of the impressive performance of the executive.

He however , said that had taken the bull by the horns to move the state forward; just as he maintained that the legislature was not prepared to antagonize the executive just to score cheap popularity .

They include Ojukwu, Mandela, Obasanjo, Mbakwe, Zuma, Ekwueme and others. It was deliberated and passed by the Imo house of Assembly who equally scrutinized and agreed on those to be honored. Enough of the beer palour stories.

This video has been available for months and the project was approved since 2015. This should put to rest the Zuma statue controversy because Governor Okorocha specifically mentioned the names of the statues expected to adorn this Heroes arena. Ojukwu, Mbakwe, Azikiwe, Zuma, Obasanjo, Akufo-Addo, Sirleaf etc. and this was long before Zuma's historic visit.

Where are these University campus and new College of Education located in Imo State? None exists here. They exist only on the papers they are written. Only the so called Eastern Palm University which is being constructed with state resources but ostensibly belongs to Okorocha have structures erected everywhere within the University premises at Ogboko. Greed of the man known as Rochas Okorocha knows no bounds!

They have all been built but none is comparable to Eastern Palm University. They are just faculties.

Many people don't know that the issue is the wrong spelling of "veterinary" but I guess the 2 letters were omitted by the artist because of space.

The statues are part of Imo hall of fame monuments. It's just like asking what an average Lagosian will benefit from the statue of Fela. Most people criticising the statues will have their relatives and even other Africans pose there for pictures just like they do when they visit other countries.

Everybody started to perceive there must be something wrong with Rochas Okorocha when he started to undermine the Imo state university teaching hospital Orlu which is the only available hospital closest to his Ideato kin; a hospital once viable and in Imo state's second most populated city which gave the highest number of votes to Okorocha in 2011.

Okorocha set out to ruin the hospital with hundreds of medical students therein because of his desire to own a private university in his home village.

How could a normal man in politics do such?

The teaching hospital will be rebuilt by the next youthful Governor.

This is the Imo Hall of fame a well planned project deliberated by Imo house of Assembly as well as the recipients which includes all past Governors of Imo State and other illustrous sons of Africa.
