well it all depends on the possible of establishing the blog. I know someone who has a tech blog with about 3000 - 5000 pageview daily and he is not monetizing it cause he was denied by AdSense. So he just continued sharing and posting on his blog. To him its more fun then posting on Facebook.

If the ideal is all about making money, blogging became hard but its all about building a brand, then it became fun. Although stress, but profitable if its done properly.

But the truth remains. Only a few really get to make it.
