Christianity EtcRe: Is It Good For A Muslim Lady To Marry A Christian by informatix:
martronilla: A Muslim man is allowed to marry a Christian
woman, but a Christian man is not permitted
to marry a Muslim woman.
I remember hearing an interview on the
radio with a Muslim, a few years ago. As the
interview began, the host asked the Muslim
guest whether he was married. He replied
that Islam is so open and tolerant that he is
married to a Christian. Islam means equality
and no discrimination.
However, the quick-minded interviewer
asked him if Islam allows a Jewish man or a
Christian man to marry a Muslim woman.
The guest’s enthusiasm dropped a little. He
had to concede that Islam does not allow
this. The radio host pressed home the point,
saying that the guest’s first statement was a
little misleading, wasn’t it? They argued for a
moment or two. Then, if I recall correctly, the
radio host sensed his guest’s unease and
changed the subject.
A short article from a Muslim website,
representing many others, says about
religiously mixed marriages:
It is not permissible for a Muslim woman to
marry a non-Muslim man.
It is permissible for a Muslim man to marry a
Christian/Jewish woman strictly under these
two conditions:
1. She is a true Christian/Jew – not by
name and/or ancestral background.
2. She did not renegade from Islam and
become a Christian/Jew.
Why is marriage allowed in only one
direction? Maybe seventh-century Arab
culture will answer this question. Perhaps
the Quran itself does not honor women,
married or not.
What does the New Testament say on the
matter?
The Quran
For the historical and literary topical context
of this next sura (chapter), please click here.
The Quran in Sura 5:5 says:
. . . Likewise you are permitted to marry
chaste believing women [Muslims] or chaste
women among the people who were given
the Scripture [Jews and Christians] . . . .
(Maududi, vol. 1, p. 427)
This verse, as noted, says that Islam permits
Muslim men to marry non-Muslim women
who are Christians and Jews, but a Jewish
or Christian man may not marry a Muslim
woman. (In this article I will address only the
Christian community.) What is the rationale
behind the ruling?
Beyond any doubt, Islam is patriarchal, so a
Muslim man must have final control in the
relationship. For example, Sura 4:34 says
that a husband may hit his wife, but no
verse in the Quran says a wife may hit her
husband—as if domestic violence in any
form is acceptable.
It may be true that Muhammad at first
respected Judaism and Christianity, but he
turned against them later on in his life, as
seen in this article and this one. So this
means that in seventh-century Arab culture
a Muslim man may dominate his wife or
wives, but not a Christian man who would
dominate his Muslim wife.
Islam allegedly is the best and final religion
for all humankind, and the Muslim man may
convert his submissive wife. Perhaps in
Muhammad’s mind no woman could ever
convert a Muslim man, if he is a
traditionalist. Today, this is especially true if
he comes from a hard line region in an
Islamic country or a hard line Muslim family.
Therefore, Christian women must be careful
about marrying Muslim men. Islam does not
give the same rights to women as it does to
men. In fact, the Quran clearly says that
women are inferior to men.
Further, to be blunt, but also factual, Islam
generally is a cruel and harsh slave-master.
This article shows that Muslim men are
permitted to have sex with their slave-girls.
This article gives the top ten reasons why
Islam is not the religion of peace. And this
article offers the top ten reasons why
Islamic law is bloody and excessive—six
hundred years after Jesus showed us a
better way. Finally, this article gives the top
ten rules in the Quran that oppress and
insult women. Islam, as the whole world
knows by many, many reports, does not
honor women.
Therefore, Christians must not trade in the
eternal Son of God who sets people free
today and offers the love of God, for a
human and mortal messenger Muhammad
(Suras 3:144; 39:30; 41:4), who is too often
cruel and harsh and misogynistic. Islam
does not honor women.
If a Christian woman marries a Muslim, but
holds on to her beliefs, such as the Sonship
and Lordship of Christ, then ipso facto she
holds on to a false belief and may be
considered a "heretic" or an "infidel," if the
Quran and traditional Islamic theology are
followed consistently.
Also, would the children be Muslims or
Christians, or secular? The answer is clear, if
Islam is followed consistently.
What kind of marriage would this be?
Where is the spiritual connection and
agreement between husband and wife and
God?
The New Testament
The New Testament starts the soon-to-be
married couple on an equal footing in the
selection of a mate.
The New Testament in 1 Corinthians 7:39
says that a Christian woman may marry only
a Christian man (and vice-versa) (see also 2
Corinthians 6:14-18). At first glance, this
divine counsel seems too restrictive, but
looked at more deeply, it demonstrates a lot
of wisdom. If a married couple starts their
walk together with the same faith and
theology, then this takes the pressure off of
possibly converting the partner to the
other’s faith. One partner does not have to
"evangelize" the other partner. Neither
partner starts off as an "infidel" or "heretic."
In Biblical Christianity, the man and the
woman must have a deep, spiritual
relationship with Jesus Christ, individually,
through the power of the Holy Spirit before
they become one flesh in marriage. This
means their spiritual intimacy with the Lord
will be shared in the couple’s own intimacy
with each other.
Also, this true spiritual equality takes away
any patriarchy. The woman already agrees
with the husband in matters of religion, so
what need does he have to control the
relationship and lay down religious law?
In a way, Islam acknowledges this
restriction when it forbids a Muslim from
marrying a polytheist or idolater (Sura
2:221). They are too far apart theologically.
Likewise, though neither religion is
polytheistic, Islam and Christianity are too
far apart theologically and spiritually, notably
in Muhammad’s denial of the Sonship of
Jesus Christ, an essential, non-negotiable
doctrine in Christianity. Islam wrongly
demotes Jesus to a mere prophet. The New
Testament everywhere affirms the Sonship
of Christ.
On a heart-felt level, the Muslim does not
receive the Holy Spirit because he does not
receive Christ as Savior and Lord. In fact,
Islamic theology erroneously reduces the
Holy Spirit to the angel Gabriel. This means
that a marriage between a Muslim and a
Christian would be unequal. And this is risky
for the Christian, since she would be most
vulnerable to a particularly strong patriarchy
that may rear its ugly head later on in the
marriage.
Remember, the Quran gives permission to
husbands to hit their wives if the husbands
merely fear high handedness or rebellion in
their wives (Sura 4:34).
Besides this practical reason, if a Christian
understands the New Testament, then he or
she must not marry a Muslim, for spiritual
and theological reasons.
A Christian couple must keep spiritual unity.
They must raise their children in spiritual
harmony, as followers of Christ.
thank you for your article I am a Muslim Man I have already propose to my wife from the Family of christ. we have settled all the religious matters Islam allows me to marry from Christ coz. Islam believe in Jesus as messenger of God who came with miracles and born by Virgin Marry with no father Quran mentioned Jesus more times that Quran mentioned Mohammad. Saw. 1 you cannot be a Muslim if you didn't believe in Jesus as a messenger of God. 2. Jesus was the most honored prophet Aside of Mohammad saw. yes Islam gave me the right to hit my wife so it be and me I decide NOT to hit her then there is no problem. Domestic violence doesn't have religions tribe or country it happens everywhere for those of us in Nigeria we knew Christians couples have More cases of domestic violence than Muslim couple but that doesn't means that Christ encourage domestic violence. The human must commit crime please do NOT discourage inter religious marriages coz. The husband was giving upper hand NO RELIGION equals man to woman. Thank you for admitting the respect Islam have for Christians.
IslamRe: Must A Muslim Get Married? by informatix: 11:29pm On Nov 18, 2013
Capt. JH Miller:
Assalam..
I am a young muslim brother, growing up I never gave much taught to marriage as I knew I wouldn't marry till I was much older, as I grew older I started to reason not to get married until I meet a luvly muslimah. She is no doubt what I have dreamt of in a wife and more, I was able to convince myself we were meant for each other and we will spend our lives together and forever both in this dunya and akhira. One of my best moment was when we agreed to choose each other when we meet in الجنة , insha Alla.h..
Recently, it started to fall apart and we fought so often. I tried my best, put my ego and pride aside just so it will work but it just is not. I am a very simple person and believe so much In اللَّه سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى will, but in this case it has been so difficult for me to just let be what will be, I have just tried to fight and fight to make it work. Maybe because I believe if I should lose her I'll probably never look to get married and will never get married.
Now I have started to go back to my previous ideology, I know marriage is half of your deen and it completes it, but is it forbidden not to marry?

My plan is to adopt children إنْ شَآ ءَ اللّهُ

جَزَاكُمُ اللّهُ
NB__ its not that I don't believe .اللَّه سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى will replace her with someone better.
My advice to you is to go to church and marry I advice alot of Muslims to marry from the followers of Isa Ibn Maryam(Jesus). The practice of marrying from the followers of Jesus was well encouraged Islam. Islam believed in Jesus as a Messenger of God with miracles born by virgin mother Maryam with no father. Marry from church problems solved but make sure u iron out about ur children finish no problem.

CultureToday Ado Bayero Celebrate 50 Years On The Throne Golden Jubilee by informatix(op): 3:23pm On Jun 15, 2013
Alhaji Ado Bayero’s appearance at the Durbar in Kano this weekend will cap a triumphant Golden Jubilee for a Monarch who is secure in his subject’s’ hearts and has emerged as one of the most successful and respected royal figures in the country.

50 years ago, when the young Mallam Ado Bayero was summoned back to Nigeria while on a French course in France, little did he know the mammoth role that destiny would bestow on him. Upon the passing of Emir Muhammadu Inuwa, his uncle, Alhaji Ado Bayero was appointed the new Emir of Kano.

Mallam Ado Bayero was born on the 15th June 1930, when his father, Abdullahi Bayero, had been on the throne for four years. Mallam Ado was the eleventh child of his father and the second of three born to his mother, Hajiya Hasiya.

He trained vigorously in religious studies and latter enrolled in contemporary school. After graduating in 1947, he then took up employment with the British Bank for West Africa, now the First Bank of Nigeria.

“Alhaji Ado Bayero left the bank to begin his career with the Kano Native Authority in 1949. While working for the Native Authority, he attended a number of clerical and administrative courses in Nigeria and abroad. In 1952 he attended the Clerical Training College, Zaria. He then took a course on Local Government in the United Kingdom. In 1953 he became the Chief Clerk of the Kano Town Council. He contested and won the election to the Northern Regional House of Assembly in Kaduna on the ticket of the Northern Peoples' Congress (NPC) in 1954, and he made his inaugural speech in the House on 3rd. March 1955. In April 1957 Ado Bayero resigned his seat in the House to take up an appointment as the Police Chief of the Kano Native Administration Police. He was appointed Nigeria's Ambassador to Senegal in late 1962.” With such a glittering career in his past, the Emir was well poised for the role in which his popularity is unassailable, the role that he has upheld for 50 strong years.

Over the years, the Emir has widely been recognized as a true patriot and a man of great humility and justice. In reflection of these qualities, the Emir of Kano Ado Bayero, has often been called to play numerous mediating roles all over the country. This Golden Jubilee should not only be seen as a celebration of the Emir’s throne, but as an affirmation of his place as a national leader. People of different tribes all over Nigeria are this weekend showing their admiration for the Emir and their respect for the job that he has done.

As the good people of Kano celebrate 50 years of a leader who has truly proven himself, many, all over the world will be overjoyed with the response to the jubilee, which has brought a natural expression of popular feeling to the people of Kano.

Reservations over the security challenges that have plagued the north and even targeted the Emir himself seem drowned out by the Kano people’s enthusiasm in celebrating such a deserving leader. In the lead up to the Jubilee weekend, enormous crowds headed towards Kano, residents began packing the streets in order to book a place where they could get a glimpse of their Monarch. Witnesses to the emerging crowds speak of well-wishers of all ages who seem genuinely moved by this milestone in their history.

And a milestone it really is because, once upon a time, the complete administration of Kano was under rule of the aristocracy before the conquest of the land by the Colonial Masters. With the arrival of the British, the power of the Aristocracy was taken away but the role of the Emir of Kano was maintained. In maintaining that part of their history, the people Kano remained loyal to the Emirate Council in accepting and obeying orders from the Emir.

To rule over the exceptional and complex people of Kano for 50 years, given the cocktail of challenges and turbulence this country has gone through, while still maintaining the respect and love of his subjects, is a great testimony to the Emir. The people of Kano have, from time, proven themselves to be a resilient, independent, entrepreneurial, creative, hardworking and ingenious people. They have never opted for second best and have never been ones to suffer fools gladly. I know because I see it in my daughter, nieces and nephews who are all from Kano. With the likes of the late, great Mallam Aminu Kano, Alhaji Abubakar Rimi, Alhaji Bala Mohammed, Alhaji Maitama Yusuf, amongst others, Kano people have always been ready to stand up for what they believe in and reject what they don’t. And even though, their hospitality, warmth and sense of tradition has always provided a balance to their spunk in nature, had the Emir not ruled over them with the honour and grace he has, they would not be celebrating him in the way they are doing at this golden jubilee. Through this and by any accounting, his reign had been successful.

As we head into an uncertain future as a nation, the qualities and legacies of leaders such as the Emir of Kano should be imbibed by all. May we, as citizens, learn from people like the Emir, behave in the manner of the Emir and lead in the way of the Emir. His leadership and the leadership of others like him revive hope.
This weekend I will be celebrating along with my daughter, nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunties, in-laws, friends, members of the Kano Royal family and all people of Kano on this great landmark in their history. I especially congratulate my step mother, Hajia Asiya Musawa (Nee Ado Bayero), my little brother Mohammed and my cousin Zainab Sanusi on the Golden Jubilee of their father, grandfather and uncle, respectively. May the next 50 years of this great Monarchy bring them the blessings, unity, forgiveness, strength, understanding and faith that the last 50 years have.

I was not born at the time that the Emir of Kano ascended his throne, but I have heard great and wonderful stories from my father on what a glorious time it was then. As he sits down now to reflect on where all those years went, Dad tells me that, “the coronation of the Emir of Kano to the throne was just like yesterday”… Then after a moment he looks up again and says, “JUBILEE’VE it’s been 50 years already?”
