Secondary schools (which includes ss3 and Jss3 only) in the country are to reopen as from the 4 of August, 2020 for exit classes

In a memorandum released today after a meeting today with the ministry of education they agreed that Students will have two weeks within which to prepare for the West Afican Examinations

(WAEC) due to start on the 17" of August, 2020,

These were the unanimous decisions reached today at a virtual consultative meeting between

the Federal Ministry of Education, Honourable Commissioners ot Education of the 36 states, the Nigerian Union of Teachers, (NUT), the proprietors of private schools, and Chief Executives of examination bodies.

It was agreed that the exit classes should resume immediately after the Sallah break, from the 4

of August, 2020 to enable them prepare for the WAEC examinations scheduled to commence from the 17 of August, 2020,

The meeting also resolved that a passionate appeal be made to the Federal Government through the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and public spirited Nigerians tor assistance to schools across the country to enable them fast track the preparations for safe reopening, as agreed.

Another meeting is to be convened tomorrow between the Federal Ministry of Education and chief Executives of examination bodies namely, NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS to harmonise

their examination dates, which will be conveyed to stakeholders expeditiously by the Federal

2 newly recruited police officers of the Durbar Police station inside Oyo State, and a member of the Discipline Intelligent Group of Nigeria, DIGON, have drowned while chasing some suspected weed smokers.

The identities of the police officers were confrimed as Oparemi Goke and Ogunyemi Mujeeb, who both just graduated out of the Police Training College a couple of months ago.

They drowned around 7:30pm on Sunday, July 12, 2020, at Awerintu river, Oke Eletu, while chasing the hoodlums who ran towards a bridge washed away by flood.

One of the hoodlums reportedly jumped into the water and the policemen jumped after him and were swallowed by the mud. Their bodies were later retrieved around 9:20pm.

The police in Anambra state have arrested a 31-year-old man, Sunday Eyim, for allegedly defiling a four-year-old minor in Awka on Saturday, July 11.

The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Haruna Mohammed, said Sunday allegedly defiled the minor in his room.

He warned members of the public, particularly parents/guardians, to be watchful, and caution their children against strangers and also encourage them to report any person making sexual advances or harassment on them to enable the parents to take proactive measures.

Nine Nigerians arrested for assaulting policemen in Indonesia

11 foreigners, including nine Nigerians, have been arrested by the Jakarta Police, Indonesia, for allegedly attacking five of its officers during a raid at an apartment building in Cengkareng, West Jakarta.

According to reports, operatives of the Jakarta Police cybercrime unit led by one Comr. Khaerudin, raided an apartment in the Green Park View complex to arrest a suspected internet fraudster.

The raid caught the attention of residents of other units who thought the policemen were immigration officers conducting a raid on foreigners. They allegedly descended on them and assaulted them.

The head of the criminal investigation unit of the West Jakarta Police, Comr. Teuku Arsya Khadafi, in a statement on Sunday, said around 60 foreigners had assaulted the police officers together.

The PTF chairman, Boss Mustapha, said

“For the avoidance of doubts, schools have not resumed. Only critical examination classes will be allowed to resume for those who need revision before examinations,” he said. “As we have informed you, the Federal Ministry of Education will consult further with stakeholders before issuing guidelines that will lead to full resumption.” He urged parents to ensure that their children take full advantage of electronic platforms provided for learning. Mustapha emphasised that students in critical classes were only permitted to resume for revision before the commencement of their examinations. He said the approval has been misunderstood and given different interpretations by Nigerians. Meanwhile, the coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Dr Sani Aliyu, has given more update on the federal government's decision on the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC).
