Politics / PHOTOS: Kogi PDP’s Guber Candidate At A Stakeholders Meeting Organised By INEC by InoutNaija(f): 7:17am On Oct 13, 2019
Engr Musa Wada, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was seen sleeping at a public function.

This has raised concerns within the PDP.

“How can he and his deputy be seen sleeping at a two-hour event? They need to be mentally fit to think of wrestling power from Gov Yahaya Bello who has been going well with little resources,” an APC chieftain in Kogi said.

A PDP starlet in the state described the photos as embarrassing.

“This is embarrassing. Our governorship candidate and his deputy both sleeping at a public function that is a sign of bad omen and it is unacceptable.”

Mr Wada will face APC’s Yahaya Bello at the November 17 Kogi governorship election.

Politics / VP Osinbajo’s Visit To Akwa Ibom State:  when Will Akpabio’s Shenanigans Stop? by InoutNaija(f): 9:21am On Sep 26, 2019
By Ekundayo Peters

Last weekend, as part of the festivities marking Akwa Ibom State 32nd Birthday Anniversary, the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo SAN, (GCON) was the Special Guest of Honour.

He was invited by the Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel to help commission the first of its kind flour mill in the South- south-the Kings Flour Mill, the Plywood and Timber Factory, and the fully digitalized power Sub-station in Ekim, Mkpat Enin, which would help ensure the Power- for- All by December 2021, a bold and strategic initiative by the Governor.

On Sunday, September 22, 2019, the Vice President, capped his visit when he presented the homily at the well-attended Thanksgiving Service to mark the anniversary at the Ibom Hall grounds.

The Governor, in a State–wide broadcast the next day, enjoined the people of the State to see the 32nd Anniversary as the start of a new Akwa Ibom State predicated on love and a deep sense of brotherhood and shared values.

"On this occasion of our 32nd Anniversary, let us begin to respect our common values and even when we disagree with our leaders or among ourselves, such should be done with civility and mutual respect, knowing that what binds us together is more enduring than the temporary impulse of partisan politics". It was truly a “pan-Akwa Ibom” moment as the Governor had put it.

All things considered, it was a spectacular success and the visit of the Vice President was flawless and hitch-free. However, the ugly side of politics was seen all over the visit.

The APC in the State led by the Niger-Delta Affairs Minister, Godwill Akpabio sadly was bent on injecting the poisonous chalice of politics into a visit that should otherwise have been celebrated as an inspiring bi-partisan moment in our democracy: a siting Vice President from another party coming to commission and celebrate a successful and hard-working Governor from another political party.

The APC in the State, led by Senator Akpabio, broke every known thread of protocol. The standard order of protocol is that whenever a president or vice visits a state, the political class-across party lines must be on hand at the airport to receive the visitor.

That was not done. The APC leadership in the State, led by Senator Akpabio other than Senator Ita Enang, the SSA to the President on Niger-Delta Affairs, refused to show up at the airport to receive the Vice President when he arrived on Saturday, September 21 at the Victor Attah International Airport.

It was shocking to observe that none of the APC stalwarts from Akpabio to Nsima Ekere; the defeated Gubernatorial Candidate of the party at the last March 9th elections was at the airport.

According to credible sources, the party hierarchy in Akwa Ibom State had applied every known instrument of blackmail to scuttle the trip by the Vice President. They went to great lengths according to impeccable sources to blackmail the Vice President into cancelling the planned visit to no avail.

“How can the Vice President come to Uyo to celebrate the success of a Governor we are fighting? Our modus- operandi has been to say that all the great things the Governor has done, from the industries to aviation, to agriculture, healthcare and infrastructure, do not exist. With the Vice President coming to commission these industries, our narratives  would be seen to be what it is: pure lies and this   will help validate these great achievements  by the Governor; we didn’t want to see that happen” a source had confided.

Unable to stop the Vice President from visiting the State, the Senator Akpabio led APC had devised another devious and evil plot. They scheduled a Stakeholders' meeting of the party to coincide with the time the Vice President was to have commissioned the Kings Flour Mill, the Plywood and Timber Factory and the fully digitalized Power Sub-station at Ekim, Mkapt-Enin and the launch of the Governor’s bold initiative “Power for- All, by December 2021.

Having failed to stop the Vice President from commissioning the projects, they shifted the Stakeholders' meeting to prevent the Vice President from also attending the well-organized State Banquet in his honour at the Banquet Hall of the Government House.

The Vice President, however, attended their meeting and still managed to attend the State Banquet. Again, in utter breach of protocol, Senator Akpabio and his APC members, refused to accompany the Vice President to the State Banquet.

It was after this breach of protocol by the Akpabio -led APC got the attention of Nigerians and the attendant social media backlash, that Senator Akpabio reluctantly attended the Thanksgiving Service held at Ibom Halls Grounds on Sunday, September 22, 2019 and as usual, demanded a celebrity treatment.

The Compere of the event had so masterfully done his job, by properly acknowledging all the VIPs in attendance and the order of protocol so established, was followed by other dignitaries.

The Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel had simply followed the established protocol and did not see the need to exhaust the list of all the dignitaries in attendance.  Akpabio was later to unleash his media goons who went to the social media space to spew all manner of things about what they termed a “slight” by the Governor in not acknowledging him, when he gave his address.

Akwa Ibom State, under Governor Udom Emmanuel, has truly been what the Governor had termed it “Nigeria’s best kept secret”. From the industries the Governor has successfully attracted as part of his grand industrialization agenda, to what is arguably the best road network in the nation, to an almost 22 hours of uninterrupted electricity all over the State, to Ibom Air, the first State owned airline in the county and indeed, Africa, to giant strides in healthcare and education, Akwa Ibom is showing the world what modern governance is all about.

As a regular visitor to the State and an apostle of good governance, Akpabio and his APC should give peace a chance to reign in the State. He should recognize and accept the fact that his successor has done so well and today is seen as easily the best Governor in the nation, which the Vice President had acknowledged.

This is something that should bring a sense of pride and joy to him as an Akwa Ibom person and not to engage in these overt and covert blackmail and other evil plots against a State he once governed and a Governor. Enough of these shenanigans!

Politics / Nigerians Will Suffer If We Remove Subsidy –- Buhari Govt. by InoutNaija(f): 10:16am On Apr 18, 2019
InoutNaija reports that the government spoke through the minister of finance, Zainab Ahmed.

Ahmed said the government was yet to devise a workable formula for fuel subsidy removal.

The Minister spoke at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday.

Her words: “In some countries, they provided buses to transport people, in some countries they provide subsidies in a manner that the people that are directly requiring the subsidies,” Ahmed said.

“We have not found a way to do it. What we are doing now, the subsidy, it is everybody that it benefiting, whereas it is the people who are really vulnerable that need subsidy.

“So, in the executive with the support of the legislature, we have to find a formula that will work for Nigeria. And until we do that, we should not be contemplating removing the subsidy because, indeed when we do, there will be people that will suffer. So, we are not yet there.

“We discussed this periodically under the Economic Management Team but we still haven’t found a formula that works for Nigeria. And you know that Nigeria is unique. What works for Ghana might not work here.

“So, it’s still work in progress for and there is no intention to remove fuel subsidy at this time.”

This online news platform understands that the development is coming after the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, had advised Nigeria and other countries to remove fuel subsidy, saying the money spent on subsidy can be redirected to health and education.

Four days after making the suggestion, the minister of state for petroleum resources, Ibe Kachikwu, said the landing cost of petrol is now N180 per litre, with the federal government spending N1.86bn on subsidy daily.

Politics / El-rufai Joins Kiss Daniel’s F*ck You Challenge (watch Video) by InoutNaija(f): 11:04pm On Apr 14, 2019
Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna state, has joined the viral fvck you challenge, kicked off by popular Nigerian artist Kizz Daniel.

The governor, who was in the company of a traditional ruler, and other dignitaries, jumped on the Young Jon beat to the delight of many at the event.

The master of ceremony initiated the move by rapping to the viral beat, before handing over the microphone to el-Rufai.

The former minister of FCT was quick to jump on the beat with lyrics from the Nigerian national anthem.

The governor, definitely, did not say ‘fvck you’ at any point in the lyrical stunt.

Many Nigerian artistes have seized the challenge in addressing some social issues, including the END SARS movement.

Ruggedman made a stinging cover of the Kizz Daniel’s “Fvck You”, calling on police officers to treat fellow Nigerians better.

Politics / Nigerian Journalists Need A Good Reward System For Objective Reporting – Osinbaj by InoutNaija(f): 10:35am On Apr 09, 2019
Vice president Yemi Osibanjo has called for a review of the reward system for Nigerian journalists so as to enable them to do their jobs with integrity.

InoutNaija understands that Osinbajo who was speaking during an Editorial Conference on Legal and Ethical Issues in Investigative Reporting in Nigeria, organised by the Daily Trust Foundation in conjunction with MacArthur Foundation and Center for Media Law and Development yesterday, stated that when the reward system is low, it will remain wishful thinking for journalists to perform their duties with integrity.

Osinbajo who was represented by his Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, however, urged the Nigerian media to continue to hold the government accountable through investigative journalism.

He added that with the roles and functions of the media, it was a veritable avenue to keep the government alive to its responsibility to the people.

Osinbajo added that self-regulation is the best mode of regulating the media and noted that only self-regulation will aid the media practitioners to check fake news in the country.

He expressed sadness that most Nigerian journalists have abandoned investigative journalism, adding that the lack of investigation, has also increased the rate of fake news in the country.

Also speaking, the chairman, Daily Trust Foundation, Mallam Wada Maida called on the media to always abide by the roles as entrenched in the constitution while ensuring accountability of public officers for the growth and development of the country.

In his remark, director (Africa), MacArthur Foundation, Dr Kole Shettima, said the organisation was delighted to work with media organisations in Nigeria on the critical issues of investigative journalism, stating that the company sees it as a core part of the work that it had set out to undertake.

In his presentation, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana urged the media to make use of the Freedom of Information Act to investigate issues, especially in the government adding that public officers who failed to comply with providing information can be charge for violation.

The conference was also attended by the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, VON, Mr Osita Okechukwu and the DG of Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, BON, Godfrey Ohuabunwa.

Politics / Vice President Osinbajo, Reveals Buhari’s Next Plan by InoutNaija(f): 10:21am On Apr 02, 2019
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has revealed the focus of President Muhammadu Buhari administration in the next four years.

Prof Osinbajo spoke yesterday at the University of Lagos where he delivered the Convocation Lecture ahead of the university’s 50th anniversary,

He said Buhari’s administration would be focused on addressing among other things, the deficiencies in the quality of human resources caused by poor education and healthcare.

According to him, “I may begin by affirming the belief of the Buhari administration that Nigeria’s prosperity means a decent existence for all. Second, that prosperity so defined will be attained if we are able to address the issues of extreme poverty, productivity, corruption, the rule of law and the deficiencies in the quality of human resources caused by poor education and healthcare.”

Speaking further on the relevance of human resource development to the administration, Prof. Osinbajo said, the government would adopt a strategy that prepares young Nigerians for emerging challenges as well as opportunities.

He said: “We must have a robust enough healthcare system that ensures that the average person is in good health, an educational system that guarantees education capable of preparing children for the opportunities and challenges of a knowledge economy.”

Continuing, the Vice President said, “In planning the path to prosperity we also took into account the age-old weaknesses of the Nigerian economy and the illusion of prosperity that frequently distorts our understanding of the actual fragility of our economy”.

On the way forward, the Vice President said from the onset it was clear to the Federal Government that it needed to devise an economic plan that prioritized the basic issues with our economy.

“For us, we needed to prioritize; the building of infrastructure especially rail, roads, power and ports; productivity as we diversified the economy from oil and gas; the fight against public sector corruption; developing a new educational curriculum that emphasizes Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths.

“Others include; adopting a new approach to resourcing healthcare; putting in place a social investment programme that deals with issues of extreme poverty and unemployment.

Our Economic Recovery and Growth Plan effectively addressed these issues”, the Vice President added.

On the progress made so far, Prof. Osinbajo said the Buhari administration believed that “creating an environment for productivity investment in hard and soft infrastructure is crucial”.

He assured Nigerians that with the integrity of President Buhari and the commitment of his administration, Nigeria would not derail from its current path to prosperity.

According to him, “If we stick to our agenda in the next two years we will see the most significant improvements, in our power sector.

“Industrial Infrastructure is a major component of our economic transformation plan. Project MINE (Made in Nigeria for Export) is the major plank of our industrial policy.

The idea is to build Special Economic Zones which accommodate industries for local manufacture of goods for which Nigeria has a comparative advantage. These include cotton, garments, leatherware etc

Family / If You Are A Parent, Then You Urgently Need To Read This by InoutNaija(f): 8:23am On Apr 02, 2019
Do you remember ever being admonished about something you did and getting this feeling that the person [parent, sibling, friend, boss, colleague, pastor, etc.] admonishing you was more upset about how poorly your action reflected on them than about how it affected you.

When you feel that way, even though what you did might be wrong, you tend not to feel exactly remorseful. You kinda get stuck on the fact that all ‘they’ were saying was really about how your action made them feel or the impact of the consequences on them. You may likely feel more angry than repentant if there is no mention of how it affects you and any indication that the admonition is in order to help you see the error of your ways and make you a better person – for you.

Often, it builds resistance instead of remorse. It’s the same with children. Such admonition may not produce the intended result. Rather it may produce a rebel, one bent on kicking against everything; but love speaks otherwise.

When a parent admonishes from the place of love, it puts the interest of the child who has erred first; not how they feel about the wrong-doing or how it reflects on them. With this focus, the child knows that they are loved and that they are being scolded or disciplined primarily for their sake. They are remorseful and more likely to take correction.

In a nutshell: Parenting from a love perspective means putting the child first – their wellbeing, growth, development and future. It makes disciplining the child all about adding value versus demeaning the child. It also gives the child the security they need. Knowing that you love them, they know that when you do discipline them, it is for their own good, and are more receptive to your guidance and admonition. Discipline them? YES! But love them much more!

“For the Lord corrects and disciplines everyone whom He loves, and He punishes, even scourges, every son whom He accepts and welcomes to His heart and cherishes.” [Hebrews 12:6; AMPC]
“. . . Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking . . .” [1 Corinthians 13:5b; AMPC]

Your Take: Is it possible to discipline a child and yet demonstrate your love towards them? How?

Politics / Peter Obi Speaks On Buhari Govt. Plan To Increase VAT by InoutNaija(f): 9:24am On Apr 01, 2019
The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi, has commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, Bola Ahmad Tinubu, for kicking against the increase of Value Added Tax (VAT).

In a statement released to newsmen from his media office on Sunday, Peter Obi noted that Tinubu’s warning was at variance with that of his party and goes to underscore the uncoordinated campaign they dished out to Nigerians.

The former governor of Anambra said the position of the PDP and the presidential candidate which was made loud and clear during the electioneering is that tax must be relaxed to act as an incentive to investors.

According to him, the right way to go to shape up the economy given the magnitude of unemployment in the country is to have an attractive economic policy that will be inviting to entrepreneurs and investors.

Obi said that Tinubu’s warning is good but he should have been humble enough to credit to the opposition party instead of making it feel as if it has been the position of the party.

“It’s extremely unrealistic for anybody to think of growing the economy of this country, and creating jobs just by increasing tax, it’s too a simplistic approach”, he noted.

The VP candidate said that he hopes that Tinubu would go further also to advise the APC to embrace restructuring as that is the only option left to move this country forward.

“Anybody thinking that this country will work without tinkering with the political and economic structure is deceiving himself because no nation grows on injustice”, he added.

Politics / What Some Men Of God Told Me After I Dumped PDP For APC – Akpabio Reveals by InoutNaija(f): 6:04am On Mar 29, 2019
The Senator representing Akwa Ibom north-west, Godswill Akpabio, has revealed that some clergymen in Akwa Ibom State called him a herdsman after he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akpabio dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in August 2018, to join the ruling party.

In an article titled ‘The Lies and Liars of the Election’, the former Governor of the state revealed how the men of God turned against him following the decision.

“I am happy that God is not like some of His priests.

“Ever since I decamped to APC, they have been praying against me and they have joined in peddling the lies about me. Very well known Church prelates and Bishops that dined with me for 8 years while I was governor, despite my benevolence to them and their families joined the fray calling me killer herdsman for joining APC.

“But some of these men of God were in this same Country in 2012 when the farmers/herdsmen clashes claimed the lives of over 1000 people in the Benue/Plateau/Mambilla axis.

At that time, a Christian was the President but was not accused of being a killer of Christians. The farmers/herdsmen clashes predate Nigeria’s Independence.

“The clashes have occurred under various leadership. Yet the “men of God” have been unconscionable in accusing the current President of masterminding genocide against Christians because he is a Muslim.

I am happy that God does not condemn a man based on one man’s testimony, but He sees the heart and judges our motives and intentions.

Whether one is a Christian or Muslim, we all worship the same God WHO will at the appointed time judge us from our deeds in words and actions,” Akpabio wrote.
