Business / Re: Googletrader Nigeria To Shut-down By November 11 2013!!! by inspire101(m): 4:02pm On Oct 27, 2013
My thoughts:

1. The mistake most Online start-ups make is thinking they will hit a home-run overnight, just like your offline businesses need time to incubate and grow…so does online businesses.

2. Most Online start-ups don’t have the funds to keep the business running till they achieve “break-even” except for the few fortunate ones that have Venture capital. So to do well Online, it’s beyond having a domain name and a website.

3. I think the two points above does not apply to Google, I think they simply have another product that will still achieve what google trader was set out to achieve…so it could be an issue of not wanting to duplicate their resources.

4. I think internet penetration in Nigeria is fair…Ask Jobberman, dealdey and Konga.

5. The scammers, and logistics issues and another challenges with Online businesses in Nigeria are simply environmental factors that can be dealt with…Ask MTN and the Oil producing companies and they will tell you what they are battling with everyday.
Business / Googletrader Nigeria To Shut-down By November 11 2013!!! by inspire101(m): 7:59pm On Oct 26, 2013
If what I read on their site is anything to go by, then…Google trader Nigeria will start winding down its operations come November 11, 2013.

Google Trader will no longer be available for posting new listings, or reposting existing listings effective November 11, 2013. Listings will remain active on Google Trader provided they have not expired. To learn more, visit the help page

http://support.google.com/trader/answer/3462984?hl=en

Strange things happen everywhere and businesses are not in anyway insulated from these…What amazes me anyway is that Free Classified Ads and Listing sites have been shutting down lately without any “reasonably explanation” to this.

The first blow that hit us came from our very own Nairalist (Seun is in the best position to answer)

Kalahari Nigeria went down quietly in an unceremonous manner

It was followed by Dealfish (Swallowed up by OLX)

Then Mocality Nigeria (They claimed they were not making money)

Now…the Almighty Googletrader will be buried in a few days!

The question on everyones’ mind is “who is next”?

What is the cause of these untimely deaths? grin

For aspiring start-ups (Classified ads and listing biz model): What is your hope? sad

Question to those who are still alive:
1). Is there something you guys can see that “Almighty Google” and the rest didn’t see….especially OLX that is pumping plenty money into this business model?

2). The last and most important question to those who are still alive….What lessons is Vconnect, tradestable, OLX and the rest of them willing to learn from all these fallen heroes?

I’m just thinking aloud…. undecided

Jobs/Vacancies / 8 Tested And Proven Strategies To Get Your Dream Job by inspire101(m): 10:18am On Mar 08, 2013
1. Know yourself: Find out what you love to do the most and what you think you will struggle with, know your strengths and weaknesses. Look for a job that maximizes your strengths and minimizes your weaknesses. Some people are naturals at sales while it might take some others years of training to be able to become a salesman.

2. Create a strong “Why”: This is your reason...be honest with yourself cos this will invariably determine your level of success on the job. Avoid “Whys” like...i need a job to pay my bills, they are NOT strong whys and majority of the people who have this mindset are jobless. Look for a strong “Why” and your bills will be paid when you are hired.

3. Identify the Organizations you can work: This will be dependent on your strengths and weaknesses. The fewer the companies, the better for you (Except you are beggar who has no choice). Make sure the companies have room for growth and talent development. You cannot afford to exchange your time and talent for cash only!

4. Research into those Companies: Read all you can about the companies you desire to work in. It portrays seriousness and a strong desire. Subscribe to their e-newsletter, ask questions like a potential client. Knowledge will always give you an advantage any day and anytime.

5. Build strategic networks: Build a strategic network with people in those companies (Especially managers & senior staff). Social media has made life easy. Become the friend of the CEO of the company you intend to work with on facebook and linked-in. Simply build an innocent and decent relationship. Time & chance will sort you out!

6. Sell Solution: If you get the opportunity to initiate business conversations with your “new network”...make sure you identify some problems within their Organization & also propose solutions. He will soon start asking what you do and how you can help. People don’t need employees...they need “solutions” and "helpers".

7. Do something: Don’t ever be caught “unemployed” at anytime in your life...it is a mark of unseriousness. Volunteer somewhere, become an independent salesman for a company in your neighbourhood. Do something...The experience will be relevant. When you are busy...it is a sign that you are valuable to someone!

8. Prayer works: Align your desire with the infinite intelligence. You need to invoke the power that can influence the thoughts of other men...avoid religious chants and observances and simply connect to the supreme being. It creates a balance between what you think is possible and what is really possible!

Always remember that your dream job may not be the one with the highest pay, Look out for the one that helps you LEARN while you EARN!

I hope this helps!

The best result "intimidation" can produce is "morons"...The least result "freedom" can produce is "reasonable/intelligent people".A lot of young Africans may not be able to understand the power of freedom because of the mental, psychological and cultural chains that were placed on us in our formative years.

It is not important to me whether the boy wins the case or not...When people understand their rights and are willing to challenge "perceived violation" of such rights....that itself is the real victory!

Career / Which Side Of Your Brain Do You Use More....the Left Or The Right Side? by inspire101(m): 3:05pm On Dec 12, 2012
Hello everyone,
It took me a long time to realize that the human brain is divided into the left and right hemisphere….and that some us have been trained in the use of one part of the brain more than the other. I also realize that achieving a balance in the use of both sides is the key to a fulfilled life. I have highlighted the functions of both sides of the brain below….

Left brain functions

• Uses logic
• Detail oriented
• Focuses on facts
• Focus on rule
• Words and language
• Present and past
• Math and science
• Can comprehend
• Focus on knowledge
• Acknowledges
• Order/pattern perception
• Knows object name
• Reality based
• Forms strategies
• Practical
• Safe

Right brain functions

• Uses feeling
• "Big picture" oriented
• Focus on imagination
• Focus on intuition
• Symbols and images
• Present and future
• Philosophy & religion
• Can "get it" (i.e. meaning)
• Focus on believes
• Appreciates
• Spatial perception
• Knows object function
• Fantasy based
• Presents possibilities
• Spontaneous
• Risk taking

Knowing the side of the brain you use MORE can be a good guide when you want to choose a career path or even a spouse. There are two links below...Use the first link to read more about this topic and the 2nd link to take a test if you are NOT sure of your "status"…..For those who think they know…..Which is your dominant side? What is the ratio? is your current "brainpower" pushing you forward in your current career or does it drain you?

I think it's worth talking about. Thanks for your intelligent contributions and do stay inspired!

Education / When Was The Last Time You Read A Book Since You Left School? by inspire101(m): 9:42am On Oct 03, 2012
Someone once said, “if you want to hide a thing from a Blackman, put it in a book”.

Recently I have been on a huge reading kick, checking out anything I can get my hands on. I’ve found that no matter what I read, the act of reading every day has helped me in nearly every aspect of my life. Here are a few benefits I have experienced personally:

1. Reading is an active mental process – Unlike TV, books make you to use your brain. By reading, you think more and become smarter. It improves your vocabulary, creativity and your memory. It also helps you clarify difficult subjects.

2. Builds your expertise – Brian Tracy has said one way to become an expert in your chosen field is to read 100 books on the subject. He also said by continuing the same for 5 years you’ll become an international expert. With the Internet and blogs, you could hone that time down to 2-3 years if you follow through.

3. You’ll make more money - If you make a serious effort to read in your chosen career, your expertise in that specialty will increase. As you become more specialized and learned, you join a smaller group of more qualified people. By being part of the small few with the highest level knowledge your pay will increase. It’s simple supply and demand curve.

4. Saves you time and money – Reading books on how someone went bankrupt will be a warning to you against repeating their mistakes. Why run your life on fresh experiment when you can learn from others mistakes and experience. I think experience is the best teacher especially when it is other peoples’ experience.

5. Builds self-esteem – By reading more books, you become better informed and more of an expert on the topics you read about. This expertise translates into higher self esteem. Your feelings about yourself can only get better. I can say here with absolute confidence that you cannot be an avid reader and still be foolish! wink

How many times have you heard of a book changing someone’s life? For me, it was “Think and Grow rich” by Napoleon Hills that set me on the path of self-improvement. It opened my eyes to a whole new way of thinking and living. It was the first step in my path of choosing my own life and being free of old habitual thought patterns.
I discovered that the greater our knowledge increases, the more our ignorance unfolds.

Still don’t have time to read?

Well, that is just a lame excuse…we all spend our time on the things that are important to us. How would you perceive a cab driver who wants to keep driving around town and says I have no time to buy fuel!

Now, let me ask you the million dollar question….When was the last time you read a book since you left school?

For those who have read about one or two great books recently….Kindly share your thoughts also.
Business / Re: 5 Proven Tips To Become A Multi-millionaire In Nigeria by inspire101(m): 5:12pm On Sep 29, 2012
I want to say a big thank you to everyone for sharing out “of the abundance of their heart”. This post would have been a “bad outing” without the criticisms. The least that all these responses have achieved is that it will help the users of this forum see this topic from a broad range of perspectives!

I am amazed when I said proven and some people are asking for proofs. I have been asking myself quietly…. how do you proof you are a multi-millionaire to someone online? What is the advantage of even trying to proof this? Let’s assume I proof it and you still doubt me, what next? Let’s also assume you believe me, what do we do about it? What is your yardstick for accessing or knowing a multi-millionaire even if we decide to meet…..I understand that there are lots of “average Nigerians” here and you may want to take a test on yourself by following this post www.nairaland.com/1055210/average-nigerian-run-test-yourself

I must also be quick to add that the tips I shared here are not cast in iron and stone. It means that you can achieve a multi-millionaire status without using any of the five tips I stated here…What works for Mr. A may not work for Mrs. B 100% of the way or time….it is just morally right for me to share only what gave me the results that I have today.

Some even said that I am here to market and sell a product, I have been asking myself when marketing and selling a product has become a crime? For those who are like me who don’t mind marketing and selling their products and services here on Nairaland. You may want to see these 6 valuable strategies from this post https://www.nairaland.com/1055935/6-valuable-strategies-market-sell

If you desire that we learn, share and grow together....You may want to consider attending the “financial intelligence for smart people group mentorship program”. You can follow this link below to go get the details.

Business / Addendum To "The 5 Proven Tips To Be A Multi-millionaire In Nigeria" by inspire101(m): 6:51am On Sep 27, 2012
I want to appreciate everyone for your thoughts, comments, reactions and criticism on this initial post https://www.nairaland.com/1054816/5-proven-tips-multi-millionaire-nigeria.

I must also say that the demand for personal coaching and mentorship has become imperative based on all the requests I have received so far in the last few days. So I have come up with this little plan to help me support others while also managing my own time effectively.

I’ll be putting together a “financial intelligence for smart people group mentorship program”. This is a 3-month program that would run every week (Sunday: 2pm -6pm) starting from November.

This is my own little way of supporting 20people. Other benefits that will accrue from this include expanding my network to relate consciously with other like minds + form strategic partnerships and alliances.

Special highlights of the session:

- All participants will be given free audio and e-book to read every week; a review of what we have read will be done the following week. (These are some of the materials I “consumed” (and still consuming)that brought a total transformation to my mindset).

- All participants will also be exposed to an interactive and fun-way of learning financial intelligence by playing the “Cashflow 101”- A boardgame designed by Robert Kiyosaki of the Richdad, Poordad fame.

- There will also be Special Video presentation of International business opportunities that participants can also use here in Nigeria as a starting platform to launch themselves out on their path to entrepreneurship and Wealthcreation.

COST:
- Someone who is hungry and very angry with his current results…. grin Forgive me…i mean someone who has a strong desire to achieve financial success in due time.

- Anyone who is ready to learn, open to personal growth + willing to pay the corresponding price e.g. By reading, participating in group workshops, discussions, assignment etc

- Any person who is ready to commit 3months of his/her Sundays (2pm – 6pm)

*** I cannot guarantee that you will start making millions of naira within this 3-months but I can say that you would have been able to cultivate the types of habits that would position you for financial success, have an opportunity of working with a loving and supportive team of like-minds + experience a shift in your money paradigm.

More info:

- We hope to commence this session by the first Sunday in November
- A complete session would run for 12 Sundays
- First batch would run from November 2012 to the end of January 2013
- Only candidates who reside in Lagos are eligible to participate in the 1st batch
- No Gate fee or money is required to participate

***Non Lagos residents can still send me a mail to show interest….I’ll be compiling the mails until I have a sizable number of people in different Nigerian cities. We can then come up with a workable plan for your City/location.

Interested participants should send the email to shola@sholaakinyemi.org

Email title should be “I want to be enlisted in your inner circle” and kindly give a brief description of yourself in the body of the mail and why you should be considered to be part of the 20.

Please Note: I am not a guru and I do not owe you an apology for not being one. I love being real…I love to be me….I am the guy next door who has been living my life by constantly experimenting with principles and I believe I can “infect” a few other people with this mindset until we all succeed.

If you think you are one of the 20, it will be nice to hear from you soon.

Do take care and don't forget to stay inspired!

Business / 6 Valuable Strategies To Market And Sell Your Products And Services On Nairaland by inspire101(m): 9:56am On Sep 23, 2012
I have discovered that many people do not know how to market or sell their products and services on nairaland. Some even go as far as destroying their personal and product image….Let me ask you...How do you feel when you are following an interesting topic or thread and you see a post like this one “YOU CAN NOW BUY YOUR BULK SMS FROM LADI CHUKWU” PLEASE CALL 0801234567890. grin

I don’t know about you but I see that kind of person like a nuisance….if we want to be modest, maybe we should call him a pest! I am sure you don’t ever want to be perceived as a pest. When you are here on an online platform like nairaland.…kindly remember that people don’t know you, don't know what you have or don’t have…so it’s important that you know that you need to create the right perception…..You have the choice of creating how people see you. You can trust me on this, no one would buy your product or service if you are NOT "perceived properly"....So, let me ask you now….How are you “perceived” here?

I have outlined 6 valuable strategies that can help you create a good perception (Brand)….this of course is the number one reason why anyone would buy from you invariably. Do enjoy!

1. Focus on giving valuable information: Giving out valuable information on a topic related to your field is a valuable way of getting a message out there. Don’t create any information in a bid to sell, it is shallow, myopic and manipulative! Many people perceive the person they receive valuable information from as an “expert”. Give, give and keep giving value as if you do not expect anything back and watch the way people would start looking for you.

2. Use an exciting topic: You must look out for catchwords and phrases that would ignite peoples’ interest before they would even click your topic. Every internet user is being hit with a billion and one byte of information every second and they do not have the luxury of time to start clicking something they perceive as useless. Think like your reader, what problem do they have. What solution are they looking for? What information do I have that addresses that problem? Make your post as short as possible while delivering your message in simple English.

3. Sell immaterial items: You must understand that everyone of us is looking for an immaterial item. We are either looking for success, Wealth, happiness, Loving relationships, Knowledge, beauty, self-confidence etc If you must sell anything in your post, it must be an immaterial item. When we connect with the message…we then look for the channel that carries the message. Sell the message and people would ask you for the channel…Avoid selling your channel (Your product/service)....Selling your channel is cheap, it’s obvious and also dumb.

4. Have a consistent signature: Have a consistent signature that is a summary theme of what you stand for…it still helps to strengthen your message. Your message would have generated some curiosity and someone is already wondering what you do or how he can become your friend. Putting a weblink in your signature may not be a bad idea altogether but avoid putting it in your post cos this weakens your message and your reader begins to see your post as an advertisement.

5. Build a nice profile: Make sure your profile is an interesting read…Have a nice picture (showing your face help people connect with you faster). Make sure you don’t exaggerate your feats and achievements. Avoid bogus and vague words. Be modest enough to let people who come to look up your profile see you as a solution to their problems.

6. Be Consistent: Be consistent in delivering value. Showing up once in while in the forums does not help. Contribute to discussions wisely. People would sometimes read your posts, look at your topics before even dealing with you. No one wants to deal with a lousy and unwise businessman. Consistency with your words and thoughts communicate trust and integrity and I am sure you would agree with me that these are essential ingredients for business success.

Disclaimer: I have NOT used and tested all the above strategies. I just got registered here on September 10, 2012. I came up with these strategies by just studying the forum. I stand to be corrected if I made silly assumptions or anecdotes + I’ll gladly take 100% responsibility for them.

Testimonial: I made this post https://www.nairaland.com/1054816/5-proven-tips-multi-millionaire-nigeria yesterday morning Friday, 21st September 2012 and it has had Over 9,000views in just 48hours.

I guess it was strategy 1, 2 and 3 that gave me this result. I hope to still put strategy 4, 5 and 6 to practice as the days go by.

Thanks for reading and do have an inspired day! wink

acidosis™:
Point number five is a useless one

@ Acidosis....I don't it is okay for u to draw "sharp conclusions"....maybe seeking to understand the perspective would have helped you and several other users of this forum.

I personally do not see anything wrong with being religious....By being religious.....It is only in our beloved country people go to church to pray to have light (When non-religious countries have light!), pray for security (While we keep bombing ourselves), pray against sickness (Something good medicare system can solve),pray against stray bullet (Don't forget our policemen get drunk regularly and shoot people cos of N20), pray to have good roads (When the minister in charge has used the money to buy a house in dubai),Pray to pass exams they never studied for....Pray so that a "God" who has given us the brain and mind to solve our basic human problems can come down and help us solve it.....I hold nuffin against religion cos everyone has a right to his beliefs.

I only fink any religion driven by fear, Poverty and ignorance would only keep the people in bondage.

I must also not forget to add that Faith is the key to true worship and faith is driven by Knowledge.
Politics / Are You An Average Nigerian? Run This Test On Yourself Now And Let's See! by inspire101(m): 10:03am On Sep 22, 2012
1. An Average Nigerian is very energetic, aggressive and arrogant…he gets angry easily, very impatient and lacks self-control. He is angry with everyone including his country!

2. An average Nigerian is mostly ruled by sentiment rather than reason…he is manipulative and can be easily manipulated, he hates anything that would task him mentally…..he is shallow!

3. An average Nigerian talks a lot about himself and has a grandiose feeling of himself, he loves to belittle others and their achievements, prides in his own little achievements and exaggerates his feats….You can call this pride or low self esteem.

4. An average Nigerian loves to complain and blame everyone for his problems….He is judgmental and an hypocrite. He complains but hates to take responsibility. It can never be his fault…It is always the Govt! Some even blame the Government for not being able to impregnate their wife. grin

5. An average Nigerian is very religious, he "loves" God but finds it hard to love his neighbor, he prays for his country but would break the laws of the land, he has no skill but wants a breakthrough in his finances, he has a character flaw but wants "God" to "bless" him, he loves miracle/magic/mysteries/fantasies/shortcuts and he believes God can deliver all these, he loves a God he can use to satisfy his selfish desires, he has a distorted view of God...after reading this, he will say this is persecution. grin

6. An average Nigerian is very selfish and self-centred…he thinks of himself always. Still wondering why one of us would steal 84billion naira when others live in penury….Please wonder no more!

7. An average Nigerian believes everything that is from “obodo oyinbo” is better than anything here…he is happy that the toothbrush he just bought was made in America. He does not believe Nigeria can ever get better.

8. An average Nigeria’s yardstick for respect is material items….the type of car people drive, the type of house they live in, the titles they have…..you often hear the ladies say that guy is really cute (Even if he is so ugly) but as long as he has cash.

9. An average Nigerian wants to get rich quick….he believes getting rich is a game. He believes in luck, destiny, stars etc. He is also a gambler by nature. He hates to steal, he hates the thieves but he desperately wants to get his own share of the national cake.

10. An average Nigerian would quickly dismiss all that I have written here as Bullshit….he is sometimes myopic, greatly deluded and has a false sense of reality.

Count your score based on the number of “offences” you feel you are guilty of:
If you score 0: I am almost sure you are not a Nigerian or let’s call you the “unusual Nigerian”.
If you score 1-3: It is fair but you need to keep improving until you become an “unusual Nigerian”.
If you score 4-6: You still carry lots of toxins in your system….there is hope for you though.
If you score 7 and above: You are a dangerous specie and you need to purge yourself before you self-destruct!

***Feel free to post your score...maybe that will encourage me to post mine also cos i am guilty as charged. If you lie about your score...I must admit that you are suffering from the number 10 syndrome! tongue

Disclaimer: Every single word, phrase and sentence here is a figment of my imagination and I take 100% responsibilities for it.

Kindly note that these traits are not peculiar to Nigerians alone, i just observed that an "average Nigerian" can be identified by one or more of this traits.

Your thoughts, views, opinions, voice + criticism is highly welcome!

1). Have a skill: I see most people moving about with Bsc without any skill….Some even go cap it with Msc from Uk or wherever but Unfortunately, they were not taught that employers don’t pay u 4a certificate….they pay u 4d value u can add to an organization! Now, let me ask you sincerely…Do you go to the market to buy what you don’t need? If you were the employer, would you employ a “valueless” staff?

2). Create a product/service: Create a product or service and charge a fair rate….even if you will still go look for a job. Make sure you carry a solution to someone’s problem (could be a potential employer or end-user). Exchanging your time for money is a short term strategy…Don’t ever rely on that as your income. Your skill is the only thing that would guarantee a continuous flow of income.

3). Save as if your life depends on it: Listen my friend, to arrive too soon is to arrive too small. Don’t be moved by the pressure to look like the Jokes and the dejis. Live within your means. Paying bills without paying yourself is the number 1 secret to financial suicide. There will always be a reason not to save…so do Save, save and save at every opportunity you have.

4). Invest Wisely: A fool and his money would soon part ways. Avoid funny schemes. Run away from “Get rich quick programs”. High yield investment programs come with high yield of loss and disaster. Your race is a marathon and not an 100meters dash. Seek to understand the dynamics of investment before getting involved.

5). Know God: Understand that there is an infinite intelligence that oversees the affairs of the Universe. That you and I have his spirit within us and we can achieve a lot more that we are achieving if there is an alignment with this source. That he that dwells on our inside has no religion or skin color. That he hears our deepest thoughts and aspirations. Share your thoughts with him, whatever you conceive him to be and I am sure he will strengthen your desires.

There are a lot more but these are the basic principles I set in motion about 6years ago.I am 30years old now and I can tell you that i have achieved many of my financial goals.

Are there people here who have tested similar principles and would like to share or add to these ones…kindly go ahead.

stay inspired.

Business / Re: TIG Treasure Resources: Any One Who Can Advise Me On Them? by inspire101(m): 10:39am On Sep 10, 2012
blacksta: A Fool and his money - soon part ways.

The ulimate question - what product or service does TIG sells?

The principle of network marketing says...there is Value that you have enjoyed from the use/consumption of a particular product/Service....The Company then encourages you to tell your friends about them (i.e. To use the same product/service) with a promise to give you a financial reward for doing that (Part of the money that the company would have been spent on advertisement)...."I am making money from TIG", "TIG is still working", "Let me quickly make own my own before it crashes", "everyone is doing it now", "things are tough" e.t.c are not solid reasons to exchange your valuable relationships for yam porridge...We cannot afford to keep towing the line of sentiment and emotional rah rah rah...Reason and Knowledge are supreme principles and the universe and her inhabitants are expected to comply...Enough said on this....TIG is for the ignorant!
Business / Business For Profit Or For Impact??? by inspire101(m): 10:20am On Sep 10, 2012
Seen many businesses especially in Nigeria here doing "business as usual". Nice office, nice employees, profits (Sometimes abnormal), CSR etc but i don't really see those businesses as companies that are impacting on their community directly in any way...Don't know if i am alone on this but i kind of think the businesses that will eventually make more profit put people ahead of profit.
