I heard you guys are resuming tomorrow. Congratulations. Wish you a fulfilling career ahead. ![]() |
Thanks to you all for sharing your experiences. You know, I used to think people that the top four will pick are superhuman Reading all the threads especially ours has encouraged me. Uncle Therealadonye, I celebrate you. The time you invest in others and solve knotty questions is commendable. I really appreciate it. For the lady that said I should leave EY, I never saw it from the selfish angle. I just like getting the experience. I could create relationships I can leverage in future. Ma bínú. I have decided for PWC. YAAAAY. You see LaRochelle ![]() You guys convinced me. I thank you all. And also for other reasons. Your company being beside the ocean doesn't hurt too. |
Success mail. ![]() Now the KPMG/PWC headache. Congrats to those who got success mails. For those who got love letter, the good thing about PWC is that you can try again. And again. I believe some of you are in the EY process, I wish you success, I'm also there too. Using it to while away time. To LaRochelle, I told you I wasn't blocking your space, . God did it. Congratulations girl. Goes back to preparing for other interviews. |
EY sent me regret mail, KPMG sent me medical mail. God is great. Your testimonies will come soon. |
juddexy2:No, PWC and KPMG. They employ the most in Nigeria and maintain a staff of over 1000. KPMG being the bigger employer of the two. Delloite is next, having a staff Strenght less than 700. EY has a staff Strenght of just over 400. I think Delloite didn't seize their opportunity in time. That's a story for another day. EY put me off with the errors in their recruitment process over the years. Even this year wasn't without its errors. Sending regret and success to same people. Look at the way KPMG and PWC do things, seamless and organised. Now, that's a good way to sell your company to me. Gracias. |
LaRochelle:You are very much welcome. Another thing is, depending on country the hireachy of the big 4 differs. But it seems no matter the country, PWC is usually first or second. It shows they have a stronger worldwide presence. In conclusion, the differences aren't much. The difference in pay is almost made up in other areas and the rest is negligible. Both firms reward hardwork and all round performance. Anywhere you are, just make the most of it. Funny enough, people seem to know delloite more than the remaining, average people that is. Within the professional services community though, especially at associate level, their reputation is not as strong as the BIG 2. All in all, KPMG, PWC, whatever. Just make the most of your career. Grab whatever opportunity you have. Those were his parting words. N. B. The first and third paragraphs are my opinion. Be good. |
LaRochelle, I'm tired. I think I've tried. Let others continue, if they have the energy. Again, everything up there is not my opinion. By the way, I know when mails will drop. Keep looking Continue The good news is just ahead. Dont stop now. ![]() So, you finally got here. You were not online when I said I'm just a hopeful like you àbí. How do you expect me to know. PWC guys are professionals, they don't leak inside info. Farabale. ![]() |
5. Pay: PWC pays more, full stop. Although he didn't make partner at both, it seems KPMG pays more at that level. Maybe the perks, maybe the allowances, he didn't say. KPMG used to pay higher, a different tax system was implemented and voila. Also, they give lunch which PWC does not. It's also good to note that both firms 'don't pay well'. Which leads to the next point 6. Staff turnover: Staff turnover is high in both firms. It's actually our blessing as it's the reason they employ so many every year. At the beginning pay is good, until you hear how much your 'mate' in Shell or NB is collecting . That's usually the main reason for high staff turnover. But if you stick around, you'll enjoy in the long run, and that long run is actually much shorter than almost every Nigerian firm around. When your mate is still SBO is Zenith, you are already a Manager or even Senior Manager. ![]() |
4. Connection to global network: His own criteria here was how frequently people are seconded to member firms to work. I must add both firms exist in the same form in terms of practice and relationship with mother-firm, contrary to what some people say. It's a tie here. Both firms send people from time to time. He said those sent are usually from one Cadre. It's hard to see younger folks getting sent. You, er, wait your turn. He saw more in his time at PWC though, but he was a senior then. Surprisingly, he said EY beats both firms at this. He said part of the (few) reasons people leave both firms for EY is the higher chance they have of travelling for trainings and secondment etc. |
2. Switch: Both firms are the biggest in Nigeria. People switch jobs between the two but more people go in the direction of PWC. The number of people leaving kpmg for PWC is higher. PWC takes this one. Which leads to the next criteria: 3. Working conditions: While both firms overwork people (his opinion having worked outside the country), work conditions at PWC are slightly better. He was quick to add that, it also depends on unit. Both firms have specialisations they are known for. KPMG audit can be 'hell' and PWC (I've forgotten the name of the unit, there's F there) can also be hell. PWC takes this one too as work-life balance seems to be marginally better. Flexibility of work is also practised more than in kPMG. |
LaRochelle:I'm very sorry, Larochelle. Didn't even check back all this while. Okay. What he told me was lengthy. I can't say all here. He also told me that everything thing he said was probably also laced with sentiments, as it is almost impossible for someone to describe their experience without sentiments. He has worked at three of the big four, KPMG, EY, and PWC. He has also worked in South Africa, Europe and US (Dallas). Caveat: Nobody should bash me. This is not my opinion. I have not worked at any of the firms, as you well know. If any information displayed below is wrong or you feel is wrongly represented, please say so in a clear, concise and empirical manner. Attack the message, not the messenger. Be that as it may, this was his analysis. He judged them based on a number of factors (I hope I can remember all, O pọ gan)... 1. Partner to people ratio: KPMG has more partners. The ratio over the past few years is 2:3. At the moment KPMG has 10 plus partners than PWC. Although in his opinion, making partner is 'easier', for lack of a better word, than KPMG. KPMG people often complain about careers stalling at Director Level. Somebody else told me that the time to make partner is 12-16 years in both firms. There maybe very few exceptional exceptions (case in point, Taiwo Oyedele) but those are usually the exceptions not the rule. Most of Taiwo Oyedele's mates made partner in that time frame. Three people made partner at KPMG this year, six at PWC. It may be relevant info. It may be not. Since both firms maintain a staff of 1000 plus. KPMG wins the partner-people ratio. |
Thanks you all. I didn't mean to start world War 2. You all have spoken. It's good I did though, at least the thread had something to talk about. I met with a Senior Person, who has worked in three of the big 4. He was able to break it down for me. I'll go with him. Thanks once again. |
There's nothing like bad mouthing there jare. Someone asks me the difference between tecno phone and infinix. I tell them tecno has no camera, infinix has camera. It's not bad mouthing, it's fact. You don't have what you don't have and vice versa. Sentiments actually is what makes for bad mouthing. Sentiments have no proof, they are just attached to emotions. Sorry, I don't mean to derail the thread. So, maybe it should end here. When I get the offer letter (which I hope I do), I'll pick based on the contents. Thanks all. |
H2Ossss:Thanks for replying, but I still don't get. A lot of people have advised me to go for PWC (that's if I get the success mail), but I have not been given a concrete reason. The thing is, I know those people aren't stupid, they know what they are saying. But, the kind of person I am hates sentiments. I like using facts to judge choices. I lay them side by side and choose. Sorry, if it seems I'm ranting. I'm just curious to know why PWC is the better choice. By the way, I am for TRPS for KPMG and Tax Advisory Services for PWC. If there's one reason that will make me choose PWC, it's working with Taiwo Oyedele. I love working with 'geniuses'. |
Thanks naffysah and therealadonye. Please can you guys tell me why PWC is better? PWC pays higher, but kpmg compensates by serving lunch. Heard work load is more or less the same. They both promote yearly, or so I heard. You work with amazing teams in both firms. So, what's really the difference. |
LaRochelle:Thought I had replied you earlier. That's a great idea, thanks. I will do it once I get a success mail. Why? I want it to be on record that I passed. Sending a mail will actually show me in a good light in case I have further dealings with PWC. To be honest though, I'm still holding out for the offer letter. There's a slight chance I'll pick PWC. September is still far. Anything can happen before then. Don't worry, I'm not blocking your chance. Your success mail will come in with(out) my notification. Ciao. |
It's funny how life works. I've been pursuing PWC since January vigorously. I didn't apply for KPMG until April. I did my CBT for KPMG in May. Thinking I wouldn't finish theirs till August. Everyday, I was refreshing mail for PWC. To cut the long story short, I've done medicals in a place I didn't even put hope. That's how God works. For those hoping for PWC letter, may it come soon. Amen. One less competition for space. Ciao. |
