Politics / Re: Lagos Light Rail And The Problem Of Accountability - Businessday by IraEdwin: 10:39pm On Sep 29, 2019
This is really sad! People are suffering everyday, so a few people can enrich their generation yet to be born. And you wonder why the are quick to arrest Sowore! They know that when the people really start asking questions, and wake up to reclaim their country, Arab Spring would be nothing compared to what would happen to these criminals.

Nairaland / General / One Reason This Current Administration Is And Would Be Considered A Failure by IraEdwin: 2:25pm On Sep 29, 2019
The PMB administration came into power in 2015 with the grand plan to fight corruption to a standstill and in 2019, the primary goal was to empower and take out of poverty, millions of Nigerians. And as we all know, that to fight these hydra headed problems of corruption and poverty in Nigeria, all hands must be on deck and these issues attacked from every and all angles. While the administration has ever so often brought a "hoe to slaughter a cow" and a "laga laga to slice onions" in both policy approaches and choices of personnel, I am of the opinion that for a house to stand the test of time, the foundation must be well laid, and nobody sees the beauty of a house from afar when the foundation work is being done.

That said, when you get to a mango tree with ripe fruits that are within reach, you start harvesting from there. the lowest hanging fruits of corruption in practice are still with us. While this administration are shouting up and down about fighting corruption, there are still police "checkpoints", police are still collecting "bail money" and bribes! we have shuffled through 2-3 IGPs and yet, this lowest hanging corruption practice continues to flourish. If in over 4 years, an administration that vowed to fight corruption to a stand still, can't stop corrupt practices among officers of the NPF (a law enforcement agency of the government), then they have failed in that fight.

Likewise, one can say to some extent, the inability of this administration, as well as past administration to fight corruption within the NPF is their inability to fight poverty within the NPF and society at large. If you can't pay them a living wage, then they have to make a living the only way they have--bail money! You want to build housing units for the people? Why not start with the police barracks! healthcare facilities for the masses? How about you start it from the police and army barrack! You want to re-orientate Nigerians? How about starting with the law enforcement community!

My point is if you can't solve a problem in a microcosm of society, then like every administration before this, they have failed and would fail still at every attempt to solve the problem in the larger society.

Guy, please do if it's really true. The Governor himself might not know about these things, if the people around him are not telling him the truth.
Politics / Re: ‘I Leave Edo Assembly Crisis To Benin Ancestors’ – Oba Ewuare by IraEdwin: 1:22pm On Jul 18, 2019
Awol1:

You are leaving Edo assembly to the hands of ancestors to do what?

Africans will still amaze in this 21st century.

My suggestion to Obaseki is to not issue any new letter of inauguration to the Edo house of assembly.

Let the NASS take over the assembly.

From my knowledge, members of the national assembly cannot impeach Obaseki until after the elections.

Let Oshiomole bring on his war.
If the NASS takes over, their role is not to run role would not be running the EDHA as your statement implies, rather they would have the power to "inaugurate" the entire EDHA without a proclamation letter from the State Governor, if the claim that less than half of the entire body were sworn in. And also, they would preside over the election of leadership of the said HA and the constitution of the different committees. And if it is true that the current Governor does not enjoy the support of the majority members of the incoming class of EDHA members, then this might just be an effort to buy time, by taking one's case from the hands of an Arbiter (aka Oshiomhole) into the hands of jurors (aka NASS via the EDHA), at the end what might be, could be, or not be but the timeline would have definitely been changed.
Travel / Re: South Africa denies Nigeria visa-free status, grants Ghana - Vanguard by IraEdwin: 9:47pm On Jul 11, 2019
These and a few others issues where some of the things I expected this administration to have negotiated or used as prerequisite for the Free trade agreement. When PMB held off signing on to the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, I was hoping the free movement of people would have been a precondition for Nigeria to open up her massive market to other nations. Free movement of people should go hand in hand with free movement of goods and services, afterall, for a country like Nigeria, our people are one of the best and biggest (second only to crude oil, of which we don't lack buyers) exports we have--just look up the yearly foreign remittance from abroad by Nigerians!

This is exactly the kind of thing that happens when leaders do not know the worth of their people or country, they give it away again, and again for pennies on the dollar!
Politics / Re: NASS Elections: Court Orders NASS Clerk, Others To Use Open Ballot System by IraEdwin: 1:36am On Jun 11, 2019
poseidon12:
The court lacks the power. The NASS should just ignore such stupid order, organize their election the way they see fit while appealing the order from the kangaroo court. Nonsense.

It's actually the opposite, they have the power to force the NASS to follow it's own rules and regulations; matter of fact, that's one of the primary roles of the court in a democracy. The point is the NASS made the rules on how to arrive a method with which to elect their presiding officers, in this case, that any method chosen ( secret or open ballot system) must be brought to the floor and voted on by a quorum of it's members. Well, according to the evidence before the judge, the last time that was done was for the 2011 method, the 2015 method was never voted on, hence a violation of NASS's own rules of selecting a method of election of presiding officers.

It's the same logic behind courts voiding political party's primary elections, substitution of candidates, if and when a party fails to follow it's own rules on conducting primary elections. So, the court is not telling the NASS what to do, but rather that what they have done wrt the 2015 election methodology, is in violation of their own rules hence invalid and a need to revert back to the 2011 methodology.

Celebrities / Re: Laura Ikeji: "US Hospitals Will Be Missing Nigerian Pregnant Women Right Now" by IraEdwin: 12:04am On Jun 09, 2019
With all due respect, American hospitals are not missing anything and Las Vegas will not notice the absence of you and your girls! You can take you money and go spend it in Macau if you like! If anything this policy is a blessing in disguise for Nigeria and Nigerians. Politicians make (steal) money in Nigeria, but wouldn't spend it in Nigerian! "Expatriates" make money in Nigeria, spends it elsewhere! Pastors make money in Nigeria but spends it in other countries! As soon as poor man touch money for naija, they wan go spend am for another country! Capital flight left, right and center! And yet we complain there's no development in Nigeria.

Our "leaders" spend huge sums to attract FDI, yet our people gladly ship multiples of the meager FDI the country is able to attract back to western countries all in the name of Vegas trip and Dubai party. Every year over 70% of crude exports receipts find it's way back out of the country, why because we are now accustomed to foreign goods. From our so called leaders affinity for foreign armored cars and private jets, to the ordinary man on the street that subscribes to Netflix etc.

I wish this will be the start but knowing our people, the same that will drive on unpaved roadway to get to their multi-million naira mansion, jet out from their multi-million naira mansion and go stay with friends in the ghettos of America, all in the name of "Vegas Trip"; they will only find another country to go spend the money they "made" in Nigeria. For una I recommend Macau, it is a wonderful place to blow money!

I intend only to transport the products on behalf of the buyers from one location to the other initially. So, the answer to your question is yes, but not to buy the products.

Thanks

Nairaland / General / Diesel (AGO) And Fuel(pms) Transport Business by IraEdwin: 5:32pm On May 19, 2019
Hello NLanders,

I am trying to venture into the above business and trying to find out more about it. I am thinking about starting out with 2 or maybe 3 tanker trucks ( 2-25000 and a 18500 ltrs). I have already secured 2 of the 3 trucks and negotiating price for the 3rd. Please, if you are in this line of work or have experience in this line of work, please leave me a message, let's talk.

Thank you in advance
