Below is the map showing Starcomms masts around Lagos. Do you know that most wireless operators guard jealously details of the location their masts, i wonder why? Are they afraid that someone could enter the coordinates of these masts into some scud missiles and bomb them into oblivon? Well, you can get these coordinates whether the operators like it or not, all that is required is to harm yourself with a good GPS reciver and determination. why are they looking at foriegners for maps of lagos, afterall we have satellites in space

What surprises me is that Lagos State Survey department within the Min of Works constitutionally is empowered to mandate all parcel of lands within Lagos to be surveyed before they are developed.  I mean every developed land is expected to be surveyed before a building plan number is issued. Properties that do not have building plans are usually marked with a big red 'X' So what do they do with all those survey plans submitted at the Lagos State Survey? All they have to do is to commission a qualified company to digitize all those survey plans and geo-referenced everything, then build the relevant attribute database. I am sure there are very qualified Nigerian companies that can achieve this.

My prediction is this: Lagos state gov will give out the digitizing contract to a foreign company. Well that wont be suprising as we have come to notice that some Nigerian companies who do require maps for their businesses will rather contract foreign ccompanies to deliver such maps. Last year alone, my company Spatial Technologies Ltd sold most of our mapping data to foreign companies who then had to re-sell to their Nigerian 'clients'. So if the Lagos State gov does the same thing will it be surprising then?

There are a number of things that are considered when deciding where to locate a GSM mast. I know MTN has a multi-deal agreement with a number of companies or churches. Some of these companies include, UAC, petrol filling stations, churches, etc. So what that means is that anytime there is a need to provide coverage, MTN's Engineers look for these companies within the Multideal agreement. They go to private landlords these days only if offering they could not get any property from the multi-deal companies.

Again, the location of the property you are offering also matters. Perhaps i could assist you by connecting you with the right people if you could give me an idea of where your property is. I worked for MTN for over 5years before resigning in May 2007.

Please find below the street map of Portharcourt. This data has a planimetric accuracy of 1m, it was derived from high resolution satellite imagery in 2004. We also have points of interest for this city showing all banks, resturants, hospitals, hotels, schools, etc.

Who says that we don't have digital maps with streets in NIgeria? The techniques for producing maps are fundamental and indeed universal. My company for instance had invested heavily in developing the digital maps down to street level for over 70 cities across Nigeria. These maps were produced using industry acceptable standards. These maps had been put to several uses, as a matter of fact, there are several vehicle tracking companies in Nigeria using our maps to track their clients' vehicles.

And who says we don't have GPS in Nigeria? I really don't know how to go about tackling this. The constellation of 18 satellites making up the GPS system has a global coverage. It is available for the use of everyone or indeed anyone that cares, all that is required is the GPS reciever.
