@ obnelly. i think it is close to impossible to transform a 2.4 prime focus to a 2.4 offset. what maybe Kungu meant is that he replaced the prime focus with the offset. Giving the right lnb to your dish makes it work very well. However, in prime focus the main axis( line of the focal point) passes through the centre bottom of your dish. This means that substantial amount of signals will be blocked by the lnb, the tripod, and the lnb holder. Imagine the size of c band lnb and its holder and possible signals it will block. In the case of the offset dish the main axis of the parent paraboloid is not included. This means reflected signals meet outside the path of on coming signals and thus the lnb, lnb holder and the tripod block non of the signals. I can also say that the entire surface of an offset dish is illuminated by the satellite. Though most of them appear oval, the satellites see them as round. The advantages that prime focus dishes have over offset are that they withstand Ground interference i.e telecom transmissions and DDt transmissions. They are not mostly affected by spillover . But due to the shallowness(depth) of an offset dish to its focal point, they are much affected by ground interference. A spillover occurs when when the feed horn sees beyond the surface of the dish. In such situation, the signal quality will be affected by noise.

@ All since we must have at least one of the birds b4 we get the offst angle, track the cheapest bird ist and the rest will be duck soup.Look at these azimuths: intel7/10: 92.5 w4/w7: 98.7 intel new dawn: 99.7 astra 2b: 101.7 sirius: 142.2 This means that, you will move to the left when the azimuth of the bird you want to track is less than that of your current position but, to the right when its more than that. Please its applies to when you are at the back of the dish. This means that if you want to you a bird as reference.do it well and your work will be done in seconds. i rest my case. Now that we have known the trick, lets combine the 2 applications.this is a case study of one of my works at Sekesua, a village near Asesewa in the lower Manya Krobo District of Ghana.Since Sekesua is not in google maps but is close to Asesewa which is in Google maps, i will use Asesewa for all calculations.dont worry;the difference between the true parameters for the 2 places is marginal if not negligible.The 2 images above shows Asesewa at Dish pointer.com with the green line showing the direction of Astra 2b at that place.Well, the green line will be important when you are within that place and know there very well.The most important things are these: Address: Asesewa, Ghana Latitude: 6.3997° Longitude: -0.1425° Satellite: 28.2E ASTRA 2A | ASTRA 2B | ASTRA 2D Elevation: 56.2° Azimuth (true): 101.7° Azimuth (magn.): 105.6° Dish pointer.com says the elevation of Astra 2b at Asesewa is 56.2 deg. All i did was to keep that figure somewhere and started tracking astra 2b using multi tv freq. and i got it.The elevation readings shows that elevation of astra 2b at Sekesua on my dish is 41 deg. u can see it under the bolt in the attachment. if you dont know, you will say, ah but dish pointer.com says astra 2b elevation in my area is 56.2 but its different on my dish. Dont panic. subtract 41from 56.2 to get the offset angle my dish which is 15.2 deg.the law is therefore, any elevation that i take from dish pointer.com, i have to reduce it by 15.2. Lets move on

Dish pointer application: This is google maps application and it works like magic if u use it very well. Just type in the name of your location and select the satellite that you want to use.If you are at Osogbo in Nigeria, type:Osogbo,Nigeria. If you are at Asesewa in Ghana, type: Asesewa,Ghana.

This means that every offset dish has an offset angle. therefore it will be difficult for one to find the exact elevation of a bird using an offset dish.In that view, one must know the exact offset angle of that particular dish. if you succeed, in doing so , your are set to track any bird receivable by your dish in your location under seconds.In fact in a blink of an eye.take a look: http://www.satsig.net/22-deg-offset-dish.htm

@fresh p I think its now time to get back to fufil the pledge.one day, i got up to realize every bird can be tracked in seconds using an offset dish that has been used before and is facing a bird. this is a combination of 2 applications: the geometry of an offset dish and google maps dish pointer application. |
@ i Hacked. Nana, i hope oseikrom is well. This your problem has been my problem too. but one thing im sure is that my dish has lost it parabolic shape a bit. so i advice you check your own too. What surprises me is that tp 12284H27500 which is weaker in our area appears intact. |

Yeah, I know. But tomorrow, i will hit the grounds and i have a lot of installations. However, do this: When you get the reading,1) subtract the reading from 17.5 and the answer will be the offset angle of your dish. 2)subtract your offset angle from 61 to give you the elevation of astra 2b for your dish in your area. 3)Input your multi tv tp into your receiver. 4) loosen the elevation sides of your dish(Dont touch the azimuth for now) 5)lift the dish elevation to the astra2b elevation for your dish(be patient and read it well) and tighten it. 6) set your lnb at a little to 9 o'clock. & now stand behind the dish and losen your azimuth a bit so that if you want to swing your dish side by side , you will be able. please dont make it too loose.9) from the my tv azimuth, move your dish little by little to the right until you hit green. Just follow the steps and you will hit green. If there is any problem bring it, i will check from my phone and see how we can move about it. After your success, i will make a post on how to track any bird with any offset dish with ease. even if you are not a professional installer you will hit it . |
Okey then it means you are set to go.Follow these steps: 1) Write down this tp 12552V 19531 2)Make sure your tools will be available whenever you decide to start Tuning your dish. 3) Now Climb up to where your dish is and stand behind it( dont push your dish in anyway).you will see that it has some readings at the left side where the bolts that prevent the dish from moving up or down are. it has some too at the right side.These are the elevation readings of your 60cm offset dish. Check the reading at left side. it is at where the bolt falls on the reading. 4)Post: i. the reading(i.e elevation of the my tv) ii.the name of your town or any big city nearby i will just give you the elevation for 4 astra 2b in your area and show you where to move your dish to for you to track multi tv with less stress .This is a means of calculating the offset anle of your dish and you can track every bird in seconds. hurry up and bring them so that we can do it. |
